    The people sit.

    The First Lesson Isaiah 58:6-12

Is not this the fast that I choose:to loose the bonds of injustice,to undo the thongs of the yoke,to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,

and bring the homeless poor into your house;when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin? Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up quickly;your vindicator shall go before you,

the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer;you shall cry for help, and he will say, Here I am.If you remove the yoke from among you,the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil,if you offer your food to the hungry

and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness

and your gloom be like the noonday. The LORD will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong;and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters never fail.Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt;you shall raise up the foundations of many generations;you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in.

Psalm 151 LORD, who may dwell in your tabernacle?

who may abide upon your holy hill?

2 Whoever leads a blameless life and does what is right, who speaks the truth from his heart.

3 There is no guile upon his tongue;he does no evil to his friend;he does not heap contempt upon his neighbor.

4 In his sight the wicked is rejected, but he honors those who fear the LORD.

5 He has sworn to do no wrongand does not take back his word.

6 He does not give his money in hope of gain, nor does he take a bribe against the innocent.

7 Whoever does these thingsshall never be overthrown.

The Second Lesson Galatians 6:1-2My friends, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the Spiritshould restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. Take care that you yourselves are nottempted. Bear one anothers burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Reader The Word of the Lord.People Thanks be to God.

The Holy Gospel Luke 18:18-30Celebrant The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke.People Glory to you, Lord Christ.

A certain ruler asked him, Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life? Jesus saidto him, Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know thecommandments: You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall notsteal; You shall not bear false witness; Honour your father and mother. He replied, I

have kept all these since my youth. When Jesus heard this, he said to him, There is stillone thing lacking. Sell all that you own and distribute the money to the poor, and you willhave treasure in heaven; then come, follow me. But when he heard this, he became sad; forhe was very rich. Jesus looked at him and said, How hard it is for those who have wealthto enter the kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of aneedle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.

Those who heard it said, Then who can be saved? He replied, What is impossible formortals is possible for God.

Then Peter said, Look, we have left our homes and followed you. And he said to them,Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents orchildren, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not get back very much more inthis age, and in the age to come eternal life.

Celebrant The Gospel of the Lord.People Praise to you, Lord Christ.

We believe in one God,the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth,of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only son of God,eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,begotten, not made,of one Being with the Father.Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation

he came down from heaven:by the power of the Holy Spirithe became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose againin accordance with the Scriptures;he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son.With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayer Over Pledge CardsGracious and loving God, giver of all that is good and true and beautiful and life-giving.These cards represent our sweat, they represent our lives, they represent our dreams. Thepledges which we make on them are but tokens of the awesome gifts that have been givento us and they are pledged in thanksgiving for all we have received, for all we have beeninspired to be, for all we are challenged to become, in this place.

May they be the first fruits of all we have and not what we have left over, so that we maylive out as closely as possible how you give to us. May we see them as our offering to you, sacred, holy, yet earthy, filled with possibilities. May we hold this image in our hearts and

minds so as we watch our offerings each week come to your table, we can see our veryselves being part of this offering, it is us on the table, living sacrifices to you. Amen.
