The Heart of the Problem‘Above all...guard your heart... it is the

wellspring of life.’ Proverbs 4:23 NIV

When the enemy has backed away for a time, it doesn’t mean he’s backed off. He could be creating space for a battering ram. If he could penetrate your outer walls of your mind, he’ll gain access to your heart and so he can occupy it and take over.

You’re in a battle. It rages every day whether you choose to participate or not. There is an enemy who wants free access to your heart, to intoxicate it and produce all sorts of vile thoughts, attitudes and behaviours. Whatever the situation, the heart of the problem is the problem of the heart. So guarding its health is a top priority.

Go through an average day and chances are you’ll get shot down once or twice. Disappointment, discouragement and disillusionment are always on the prowl. (Maybe it isn’t a coincidence that ‘Dis’ is another name for the Greek god of hell, Hades. His family also includes disease, disaster, disapproval, discontent and so on. They too are always on the prowl.) But with God, you can be wise to these assaults. The best way to do that is to make sure your heart is filled with God. Jesus wasn’t just reciting poetry when He said, ‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.’ (Matthew 5:8 NIV) Knowing God is so important because it shapes everything that we become. Jesus offers you life in its fullest sense, so don’t settle for anything less.

We want to see every student operating at the very best of their ability. We believe that this requires action from not only the students and teachers but also the parents. We would like to make it very clear that we are accessible and welcome any communication from parents as well as students.ForYear7studentscompletingtheirfirstyearofsecondary school - congratulations! It is a big step learning from a variety of teachers and keeping up with many assessment tasks. Parents, please be assured that as the students’ progress through secondary school they are always welcome to ask their teachers if they do not understand something, have misplaced work or simply forgotten what

was required of them. Our job, as teachers, is to help each student understand and to embrace knowledge development. Consequently our school prides itself on having teachers who, amidst their busy schedules, seek out students to ensure they are developing the necessary skills and understanding required of them. Communication between teachers, students and parents is therefore paramount to ensure maximised learning experiences, so students can make independent choices for their future career goals. Teachers are generally available for queries at recesses or lunch, plus the afternoon homework help sessions are places open to all students no matter what their learning needs are. The preferred method of communication between teachers and parents/carers is email.TUTORING SESSIONS:Maths – Monday 3-4pmEnglish – Wednesday 3-4pmHSIE – Wednesday 3-4pmScience – Thursday 3-4pmYear 8 Information EveningOn Wednesday evening, October 30 we have an Information Evening for Year 8 students and parents in preparation for Year 9 in 2014. The purpose of the evening is:1. To outline the optional/elective subjects

available for Year 9 as they continue their schooling.

2. Subject line ups from which to choose and a date by which we would like these choices to be made. This helps us in planning for 2014.

3. Information about the RoSA (Record of School Achievement) which incorporates Year 9 and beyond. The RoSA is the replacement for what oncewastheSchoolCertificate.

The evening commences at 7:00pm sharp in the Naomi Frew Hall and we anticipate it will conclude by 8:00pm.holly MacDonald Awarded New York City Dance ScholarshipIn recent years, Central Coast Adventist School has had the privilege of being home to a large group of talented dancers. One of those dancers, Holly MacDonald, has been awarded a scholarship to the Broadway Dance Centre in New York City. Holly

will be heading over to the US to complete this scholarship in the next 12 months and we pray for abundant blessing to reign over her and her family throughout this time. Congratulations Holly - we are all very proud of you!CAREERS NEWSPharmacy Traineeship AvailableThe Terry White Chemist at Bateau Bay is offering a Pharmacy Traineeship. The program is full time over twelve months with 38 hours per week being split between work and training. All training is done on the job or via correspondence through the PharmacyGuild.ThetraineewillfinishtheyearwithaCertificateIIqualificationandthepotentialtogoon to further work/study. This could be an ideal opportunity for a Year 12 student looking for an alternative to university study. If you are interested, please contact Michelle Cook on 43 329 439.Certificate III Commercial Fitness - Expressions of InterestWe are currently asking for expressions of interest from anyone in the school community interested in completing a Cert III In Commercial Fitness here on campus. In Year 11 and 12, students have the opportunity to take a specialised TAFE subject (TVET) as part of their subject line-up. While this presents some excellent options, as a private school, it also comes at a cost. This year, several students have expressed an interest in completing a Cert III in Commercial Fitness through TVET and our local TAFE college has offered a generous alternative. For a fraction of

the cost of completing the TVET subject, we can host an open Cert III program on site. This won’t sit inside the regular school timetable and it won’t contribute to a student’s unit count but it will give them (and anyone else wishing to participate) the industrycertification. There are still a number of hoops to jump through (not literally, although that may be part of the training) and we do need a minimum of 10 participants to run the course but, if you are interested, we would like to know. Please send any inquiries or expressions of interest to [email protected] Carz - SPECIAL CCAS DEALS - Special Occasion VehiclesAs a former Central Coast Adventist School family, we would like to offer to all CCAS families a choice of our two brand new Chrysler 300 cars for your special occasion transfers. Our special Year 10 & 12 Formal rates are exclusive to CCAS families. Bookings are essential.
