Pray that Petal First Baptist would be a house of prayer.Isaiah 56:7 ~ “…for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.”Colossians 4:2 ~ Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.Pray for the men of Petal First Baptist, that they would have the desire to be the men God has called them to be. Pray they would be passionate followers of Jesus Christ.Psalm 27:17 ~ As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

Pray that we would be known for our love and that we would live out our faith with action.John 13:35 ~ “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”1 John 3:18 ~ Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.

LORD, help us to love others as You do. Through the power of Your Holy Spirit, change our hearts and fill us with Your love and compassion for those around us. Help us see them as You do. Break our hearts over lost people, that we would be constantly aware of the eternal consequences they are facing.Matthew 9:36 ~ When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.Psalm 51:10-13 ~ Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11Do not cast me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me. 12Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. 13Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners will turn back to You.

Pray we would be missionaries everywhere we go and in all that we do – in our families, our neighborhoods, our cities, and all the world. Pray that we would be aware of the lost people in our lives, that we would be a light in a dark world. Oh LORD, give us a passion for sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ!Acts 1:8 ~ “You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”Matthew 5:14 ~ “You are the light of the world.”Matthew 9:37-38 ~ Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.”

Look at this concentric circle illustration. Begin to consider how the Lord is calling you to reach the lost people in your “circle.” Ask Him to prepare you for sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Yield yourself to Him completely; fully surrender. Today and in the days ahead, make a list of those the Lord lays on your heart.Romans 6:13 ~ Offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to Him as instruments of righteousness.Isaiah 64:8 ~ Yet, O LORD, You are our Father. We are the clay, You are the potter; we are all the work of Your hand.

Intercessory prayer is the act of praying on behalf of others. The role of mediator in prayer was prevalent in the Old Testament (Abraham, Moses, David, Daniel and others). But Christ is pictured in the New Testament as the ultimate intercessor; and because of this all Christian prayer becomes intercession since it is offered to God through and by Christ.1Timothy 2:5 ~ For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

Suggestions for intercessory prayer:You may want to jot down names as you pray. Consider closing your eyes and picturing them as you pray for them by name. Pray as the Holy Spirit leads for their specific needs. Use this list as a guide, but don’t let it limit you as you allow the Holy Spirit to lead you in lifting up OTHERS in the precious name of Jesus.Colossians 1:9 ~ For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.Colossians 4:2 ~ Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

Open your heart and mind to what the Lord would say to you during this time of prayer. Acknowledge the sovereign power of the Lord and submit fully your will to His. Ask Him to show You His will for your life.

I can do nothing without You, O LORD. I am completely dependent upon You, and I fully surrender my life to You. I will abide in You!John 15:5 ~ “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, Your perfect love is casting out fear. And even when I’m caught in the middle of the storms of this life, I won’t turn back; I know You are near. And I will fear no evil. For my God is with me. And if my God is with me, whom then shall I fear? Whom then shall I fear?Oh no, You never let go. Through the calm and through the storm.Oh no, You never let go, in every high and every low.Oh no, You never let go Lord, You never let go of me.(“You Never Let Go,” Matt Redman)

Day 1 - January 19 - Confession We confess our sins because we know and have the assurance that our God is a gracious and forgiving God who, while we were yet sinners, sent Christ to die for us, received us in baptism, and for Jesus’ sake forgives our sins. So we dare to approach the throne of grace with confidence, not with fear, because we know that He is faithful and just to forgive us.

Psalm 139:23-24, Isaiah 1:18, 1 John 1:9

Day 2 - January 20 - Praise God What is praise? Praise is thanking God for who and what He is. It means to value Him, to esteem Him. It means bragging on him: “God, You are good! There’s no one as good as you!” Why should I praise God? Because it gets my focus off myself and onto God -- so I can talk to Him and not at him.

1 Chronicles 16:10, Hebrews 13:8, Psalm 119:90, Psalm 145:9 Romans 5:8

Day 3 - January 21 - Thank God What I want you to do is to stop seeing your prayers as a monologue and start seeing them for what they truly are: a dialogue. Prayer is a conversation with God. God hears you when you pray and he answers you when you ask questions. He wants to talk to you every day. So thank him for being a part of your life and for being interested in the details of your life. Thank him for answering your prayers.

John 3:16, John 16:3, Galatians 4:6, John 17:17

Day 4 - January 22 - Church Leaders (Pastor, Staff, Ministry and Worship) How does God respond when we pray for our leaders? God delights in our prayers for our spiritual leaders. He loves our intercession for them. In Acts 12, we have an example of what happens when we pray for our leaders. It is a vivid demonstration of what God does when we stand in the gap for our leaders. Read the following passages and pray these for our church leaders.

Ephesians 5:18, 2 Corinthians 9:8, Psalm 25:21, 2 Corinthians 5:9 Colossians 3:16

Day 5 - January 23 - Our Church Our Church needs to be lifted up by us and we need God’s grace and attention to guide our church in His direction. We need our church to be energized and spirit-filled. God is the one who provides, whether it is for a person or a group of people, and He calls us to come together in prayer for one another and the church itself.

Philippians 3:10, 1 Peter 4:10, John 17:23, 1 Corinthians 12:1, 2 Samuel 24:24, Isaiah 6:8

Day 6 - January 24 - Our Families Prayer for families is the very foundation that keeps a family unit together. Have you heard the phrase “A family that prays together stays together”? The concept is true - a family that has their focus on praying to the Lord Jesus Christ has a foundation that may be shaken at times, but it will withstand all that comes against them. Pray for your family as well as other families within our church.

Psalm 119:165, John 15:11, Romans 12:9

Day 7 - January 25 - Vision 2020 Our Vision 2020 team has put a lot of prayer and work into developing the vision we believe God has for our church. As this vision is revealed to our church over the next several weeks pray about where you fit in this vision. We truly believe that everything we do as a church will fit under the four key words of Connect, Grow, Commit, Go. Psalm 67:1-2, Malachi 1:11, Matthew 9:37-38, Hebrews 13:20-21 Colossians 1:13, Psalm 91:9-10, Matthew 13:8

Page 6: 24 Hours of Prayer and Fasting96a919bf6aace01cb3da-1199337dbbe3b16660535f1eb0cc2297.r63.… · Colossians 4:2 ~ Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Pray for

Day 8 - January 26 - DNA Shift The vision that we believe God has given us is going to cause a shift in our DNA. DNA can be defined as the fundamental and distinctive characteristics or qualities of someone or something, in this case our church. We believe at the core of this vision is true transformation in the lives of people, both inside and outside our church. Pray that God would continue to shape us into the people He would have us to be.

Psalm 51:10, Romans 12:2, Galatians 2:20

Day 9 - January 27 - Next Steps We as a church will be talking about Next Steps a lot over the coming weeks and months. We can get overwhelmed at times when we begin thinking about leaps of faith when God just wants us to take the next step. The momentum of that first step will propel us to where God wants to take us. We just have to be faithful to step out. Will you take the next step? What is holding you back?

Hebrews 12:1-2, Proverbs 3:5-6, James 1:5-6, Psalm 37:23

Day 10 - January 28 - Giving Over the last couple of Sundays we’ve been challenged to think about the next step in our giving. Maybe you need to take the next step and give for the first time or maybe you are already on the other end of the ladder and need to give extravagantly. Whichever end of the ladder you find yourself, know that God will bless your obedience. Take time and pray about what your next step should be.

Deuteronomy 15:10, Proverbs 11:24-25, Malachi 3:10, Mark 12:41-44

Day 11 - January 29 - Connect Our vision is that you would connect yourself and others to Christ and the Church. You can not live the Christian life by yourself. We are meant to be in community with others. A big part of being a Christian means we’re connecting others to Christ. Do people ask about you if you miss a Sunday? Maybe you are connected, but have you taken the next step to connect others to Christ?

Hebrews 10:24-25, Romans 12:4-5, 1 John 4:11

Day 12 - January 30 - Grow You’ve probably heard it said that healthy organisms grow. If you or our church ever stops growing we need to stop and assess our health. Our primary time for growth is in LifeGroup. Are you currently in a LifeGroup? If not, take the next step and join one. Pray for our LifeGroup Leaders, as well as those who will step up and lead new groups, as we continue to grow.

2 Peter 3:18, Ephesians 3:17-19, 2 Corinthians 3:18

Day 13 - January 31 - Commit Commit your time and resources to serve Christ and others. Sadly, too many see church as just another thing on their to-do list. On any given Sunday, only about 58% of our membership is in worship. What is the next step in your commitment? For some it will be to attend one or two more Sundays a month, for others it will be to commit to serve on a ministry team.

Mark 10:45, Colossians 3:23-24, Ephesians 4:11-16, James 3:1

Day 14 - February 1 - Go Our main calling as Christians is to make disciples. We see a Great Commission in all four Gospels and in Acts. Understood in each of these is a calling to go. I once heard it said that you do not need to pray to see if you’re called to go, you need to pray and see if you’re called to stay. The Bible is clear we are called to go. Will you take the next step and go on a mission trip this year in Petal, in Mississippi, in North America, to the ends of the Earth?

Matt 28:18-20, Mark 16:15-16, Luke 24:46-49, John 20:21-22, Acts 1:8

Page 7: 24 Hours of Prayer and Fasting96a919bf6aace01cb3da-1199337dbbe3b16660535f1eb0cc2297.r63.… · Colossians 4:2 ~ Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Pray for

Day 15 - February 2 - Connect The first part of our vision is that we would see people connected at Petal First Baptist Church. The first place most guests come is our worship service. We must go beyond “Southern Hospitality” and really get to know our guests. Pray that God would give you the boldness to connect with our guests. Pray that our worship services would be a conduit for God to connect to us and those who are far from Him.

Acts 2:42-47

Day 16 - February 3 - Team Leader We are praying that someone will feel led to take the lead of our connect team. This person will be required to complete heavy administrative tasks as well as develop the processes necessary for getting people connected. Please pray that God would begin to call this person out and that he/she would have the courage to step up and lead.

Romans 12:3, 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

Day 17 - February 4- Membership We are currently running about 58% of our membership on any given Sunday. Can you imagine what our church would look like if all our membership came to church? Our goal is to see at least 75% of our membership in attendance each Sunday morning. Please pray and and even reach out to those who aren’t here Sunday by Sunday. Pray also for disconnected members. Pray that they would get reconnected.

Hebrews 10:25 Day 18 - February 5 - Growth

We mentioned last week in our prayer guide that growth is a natural by-product of being healthy. We have prayerfully set our goal for growth at 10% each year. Because of this growth, we will need to expand to two worship services by the year 2017. Please pray that our growth will continue. Pray also for a smooth transition when the time comes to move to two worship services.

Acts 5:14, Acts 2:47, Acts 11:21

Day 19 - February 6 - Parking Lot to Membership One of the jobs of the connect team will be to define the process from “parking lot to membership.” We want to connect with our guest soon after they exit their vehicles, bring them inside and hand them off to a Welcome Team, which will make sure our guests know where everything is in our church, as well as connects them to the person who invited them, if they were invited. Please pray for the development of these teams as well as the processes

1 Corinthians 12:12-14

Day 20 - February 7 - Prayerful Dependence We want to be solely dependent on God for everything we are and do as a church. Part of that includes stopping everything and praying for situations as we become aware. Prayer is a by-product of a healthy relationship with God. Interceding for others is a by-product of a healthy community. Pray that everyone, including our leadership, would be prayerfully dependent on God for everything.

1 Thessalonians 5:17, Philippians 4:6-7, 1 John 5:14

Day 21 - February 8 - Teams As you can tell there will be several teams under the Connect Team. Each of these will have specific tasks related to getting our membership and those outside of the church connected to Christ and our church. Please pray for the development of our teams and your involvement in these teams. We have also set a goal of hiring a full-time worship leader by 2020. Pray that God would already be preparing that person to be a part of the Petal First Baptist Family.

Romans 12:4-8

Page 8: 24 Hours of Prayer and Fasting96a919bf6aace01cb3da-1199337dbbe3b16660535f1eb0cc2297.r63.… · Colossians 4:2 ~ Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Pray for

Day 22 - February 9 - Grow We believe that our church needs to grow both in width and in depth. We don’t want to be a mile wide and an inch deep. But we also don’t want to be the same size a year from now. As we grow in our walk, we understand the need to share the love of Christ and, in turn help others grow in their walk. Pray that God would help us grow both deep and wide.

1 Chronicles 4:10

Day 23 - February 10 - Personal Growth It is God’s desire for us to grow deeper and mature in our faith. He wants us to grow into the image of His Son, Jesus. If we aren’t careful we can become comfortable and stagnant in our growth. So how are you growing personally? Have you developed the habits necessary for growth to take place? Pray that God would give you the desire to pray, read and study His Word daily.

2 Peter 2:1-3, Colossians 2:6-7

Day 24 - February 11 - LifeGroup In Colossians 2, we see that being connected to the head is what causes the body to grow. It is not only important for you to develop your own personal study habits but it is also important for you to be a part of the body. How connected are you to His Body the church? Joining a LifeGroup may be the next step you need to take to get connected on a deeper level so that you can grow.

Colossians 2:19, Ephesians 4:13-16

Day 25 - February 12 - Right People In Proverbs we learn, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” Putting ourselves around the right people helps us grow, but in turn, our growth helps others grow. Are you surrounding yourself with the right people to help you grow? Are you around people that need you to help them grow? We are called to be discipled as we are discipling others.

Proverbs 27:17, 2 Corinthians 13:11

Day 26 - February 13 - Age Group Ministries Our age group ministries have the responsibility of helping lay the foundation in a child’s life. That foundation is what the church can build upon as the child grows and matures in his/her faith. From preschool to high school, our children are growing each week as our staff and volunteers lead our children. Pray for the growth that happens in the lives of our children and those we haven’t reached yet. Pray for the staff and volunteers of these ministries.

Proverbs 22:6, Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Day 27 - February 14 - Launching New LifeGroups We are praying as people get connected in Worship, they will get connected deeper through a LifeGroup. When this happens we will need to add more LifeGroups. When we add more LifeGroups we will need the space for them to meet. Pray that God will bring us the resources necessary to finish the unfinished parts of our building in order that more people can get connected and grow through LifeGroups.

2 Corinthians 9:9-15, Philippians 1:19-20

Day 28 - February 15 - LifeGroup Leaders One key to success in adding LifeGroups is finding leaders to lead the new LifeGroups. Are you at a point where you could lead a LifeGroup? Pray that God would begin to raise up leaders from within existing LifeGroups, which could lead new LifeGroups. Are you that leader? If not, what are your excuses? Pray for our current and future LifeGroup Leaders.

Hebrews 6:1-3, Hebrews 5:11-14

Day 29 - February 16 - Commitment This week, we are focusing on our commitment level. Each of us are shaped to serve God. Paul wrote, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works...” God crafted each of us to fill a certain role within the church body. Are you serving? Are you being who God has created and called you to be? Pray that God will give you the courage to step out and serve.

Ephesians 2:10, Psalm 139:13-16

Day 30 - February 17 - Spiritual Gifts God gives every believer spiritual gifts to be used in ministry. You can’t earn your spiritual gifts or deserve them - that’s why they are called gifts! Because God loves variety and he wants us to be special, no single gift is given to everyone. If you don’t know what your spiritual gifts are, pray and ask God to reveal those to you. As He shows you what your gifts are, commit to use them to build up His church.

1 Corinthians 12:5-30, Ephesians 4:7 Day 31 - February 18 - Heart

The Bible uses the term heart to describe the bundle of desires, hopes, interests, ambitions, dreams, and affections you have. Your heart reveals the real you. Another word for heart is passion. The Bible says to serve the Lord with all of your heart. God wants you to serve passionately not dutifully. Pray and thank God for your passions, and ask how you can use them to build His church.

Romans 1:9, Matthew 12:34

Day 32 - February 19 - Abilities Your abilities are the natural talents you were born with. All of our abilities come from God. The Bible says, “In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well.” We should be using our abilities to bring glory to God. What are some of your abilities? Have you been using your abilities to further your kingdom or God’s? Thank God for the abilities that He has given you and commit to using them to build His Kingdom rather than yours.

Romans 12:6, 1 Peter 4:10

Day 33 - February 20 - Personality Do you realize there never has been, and never will be, anybody exactly like you. When God made you, He broke the mold. There is no “right” or “wrong” personality for ministry, but your personality will affect how and where you use your spiritual gifts and abilities. When you find the place to serve in a manner consistent with the personality that God gave you, you experience fulfillment, satisfaction, and fruitfulness. Thank God for creating you uniquely and in His image. Commit to being yourself and allow God to work through you.

1 Corinthians 12:6

Day 34 - February 21 - Experience You have been shaped by your experiences. God allowed them to happen for His purpose of molding you. The Bible says, “He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When others are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” God intentionally allows you to go through painful experiences to equip you for ministry to others. Have you thanked God for your family, educational, vocational, even painful experiences.

2 Corinthians 1:4, 8-10, Romans 8:28

Day 35 - February 22 - Generosity We introduced the generosity ladder several weeks ago, and encouraged you to take the next step in your giving. Have you been praying about what that next step looks like for you and your family. Continue to pray, asking God to show you what the next step in your commitment to give to His church. Also pray about other steps that God wants to you take and in the areas that he is stretching and growing you.

2 Corinthians 9:7

Day 36 - February 23 - Heart Our focus this week is Go. Over and over again in God’s Word, we are told to go. Sadly, many believers are so wrapped up in their own world that they “don’t have time” to reach the lost. In Matthew 9:36, Jesus saw the crowds and had compassion on them. When was the last time you were in Walmart and saw the crowds and had compassion? Pray that God would give you a heart of compassion for those that are far from Him. There are 3 primary ways you can develop a heart of compassion. They are Pray, Give, and Go. Pray that God would open your eyes to the opportunities you have to share your story of salvation. Also, pray for those that are going. In order for our church to send people it takes money and resources. Pray, asking God what you should give. One goal in our Vision 2020 plan is that every member be involved with a mission trip, whether that is one day or a week, in Petal or the ends of the earth.

Matthew 9:36, Matthew 6:19-21 Day 37 - February 24 - Jerusalem

God has given us a mission field right here in Petal. We should live as if we are on mission every day. Many people believe they are too busy to go on a mission trip but we are around lost people all day every day. Be intentional in the relationships that you have at work or at the ball field. Our church has partnered with Petal Primary including the Big Brother / Big Sister program, as well as feeding students on the weekends. We have built relationships with Pregnancy Choices of Hattiesburg, Petal Children’s Task Force, and the Petal Center for Children and Families. Please pray that these doors would continue to be open. Pray for more opportunities to reach our community with the Gospel. Pray for the people of Petal to receive the Good News of the Gospel and for lives to be changed.

Matthew 25:34-36, Luke 24:47

Day 38 - February 25 - Judea Our Judea is Mississippi. We are currently attempting to take our relationship with Shekinah Glory Baptist Church in Jackson to the next level. By partnering with them, we are helping spread the Gospel through Jackson even though we may not personally share. We are freeing their people to go out and share. Pray for our relationship with them as well as other opportunities in Mississippi so that we can reach our state with the Gospel.

John 20:21, Galatians 6:9

Day 39 - February 26 - Samaria The North American Mission Board has identified several cities in the U.S. as well as Canada that are key to reaching North America with the Gospel. They call these cities SEND Cities. We are in the process of partnering with a church plant in Toledo, Ohio, one of the SEND Cities. Pray that we are able to partner with them and help them get established and reach their city with the Gospel. Pray about the possibility of serving on a mission trip to Ohio, when our partnership is finalized.

Luke 10:2, Romans 10:13-14

Day 40 - February 27 - Ends of the World For most of our church, going to Indonesia seems impossible. But just as God called us, as a church, to embrace the people of Sangau Sekadau in Indonesia, He will also provide a way for us to Go. Pray that God will continue to call people out to Go. Also pray for those that God doesn’t call to go but He calls to Pray and Give so that others can go. We have committed to this relationship until there is a sustained church planting movement among the Sangau Sekadau. Pray that God would begin even now, to prepare those that would be pastors and leaders of the churches that we will have a hand in starting. Pray for the three trips that we have planned for this year.
