History
Originally developed by librarian Helen Blowers for library staff at Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Library, North Carolina in 2006.
It has since been replicated world-wide by over 700 institutions.
What is 23 Things ?
A self-directed learning program to help library staff become more confident at using internet tools, social networking and mobile technology.
STRUCTURE
• Usually consists of 23 topics.• One topic is covered per week via an
introductory tutorial. • Participants then explore the topic
themselves and write about their experiences and thoughts on a personal blog.
• Each thing takes about an hour to complete
Purpose of the Things• They are intended for both personal and
professional development • Promoting your library online• Promoting yourself as a library
professional• Connecting with other librarians and
libraries• Keeping up to date with new technology
