Home and School End of Year Social Catchup Friday 25 Nov 5-7pm, Winton’s Garden Bar Come and join us after touch at Winton's Garden Bar (Top Pub) for a low key catchup. We'd love to see old faces, new faces, mums & dads off the farm, leaving school families and of course the kids. Nibbles provided. RSVP for catering please by clicking the ‘Going’ button on our Facebook Event page and please comment with numbers if you are bringing the family too.

Plans are well underway for 2017. Class lists will be distributed

with next week's newsletter, but we can tell you that the teaching teams for next year will be as follows: Linda Caldwell, Mel Cooper and Jenny Scott with new entrants and Year 1s, Kathy Turnbull and Lenka Simpson with Year 2s and 3s, Kirsty Rodger and Hunter Murray with Year 4s, 5s and 6s and Amy Coward and Kerri Neylon with Year 7s and 8s. Our property plans are now taking shape and we are finding the silver linings within the asbestos cloud! We will be able to share final plans shortly. However, we do need a few volunteers to donate 1 hr on the mornings of Saturday 17th December and Saturday 4th Feb. This is to help teachers move everything from the main block into the hall for asbestos removal works and back again. Please turn up and give us a hand if you can.

Home and School Fundraiser LAST CHANCE to get into the MYSTERY DRAW. Cash donations in by 2nd December. Please contact Adele on 027 2376755 for more information. Drawn Friday 9th December at final assembly.

Everyone has that special person and for me it’s my Dad. He’s definitely not an ordinary dad. I’d say he’s very unique. My dad is very eye catching, he’s got ginger hair and what they call a ‘beer belly’, also a big desire to talk. I think I get it from him too.

Every dad cracks jokes, but I bet they are not as bad as my fathers. My family is pretty sure that my dad scared away the dinosaurs with his jokes they’re that bad. What makes them worse is that he laughs at them no matter how bad they are. He can’t help himself.

My dad loves music. His jam is good, old Johnny Cash and AC/DC. He sings to any song when he has the chance. He even tries to sing to modern songs like Rihanna and Beyonce. Trust me you do not wanna hear his “high pitch voice”. It’s more squeaky and cracked than anything else.

Dad is like my go to man for sports. He knows lots of tips and tricks cause supposedly he went to the Olympics for everything. He referees himself to “the best of his time” and is an “elite athlete” but we both know this is not true.

I love my dad. He’s like the pea to my pod or even the bee to my honey. He’s got a heart of gold and it’s bigger than anyone's. My dad is very special to me and I love him.

By Jack Churstain

Dad you are special to me because of what you do for me.

We are always down at Riverton to fill in some time. We go fishing all the time. We catch all kinds of things, big fish and small fish. There are good days and there are bad days. He gives up his own time to take me out hunting. Sitting out on the hill watching the sun go down seeing for miles. He comes and watches my sport on a Saturday. He gives me feedback on what to do to improve my rugby.

Ever since I was born Dad said I looked like a rat. So that’s where I get the name Rat Boy from. Dad always says I overdo things such as “I saw a 14 point stag” but it was only a ten pointer, or “I caught a four pounder” but it was only a two and a half pounder. It’s a pleasure to site outside with Dad in the afternoon watching the quail sing to each other.

Hunting runs through my blood. Dad has been taking me out hunting for a long time. The first time I went out hunting I was one. Dad just put me in the back of his hunting bag. I am grateful that Dad has been taking me hunting so many times. Dad has brought home all kinds of creatures. He will bring home rabbits to ducks, you name it. Dad will leave me to deal with the kill from the night before.

Overall my dad is really special to me because of all the wonderful things he says and does for me. That’s why my dad is special to me and always will be.

Love Josh

MINIBALL Year 5 & 6 - Pool B On Tuesday the 22nd the year 6 basketball played for 3rd and 4th. We played the Otatara Shooters. It was a great game. We were winning in the first half then they got the lead, but in the end we won 11-9 and Josh McDonald got player of the day. We have been playing for a while now and the whole team would like to thank Debbie Munro for coaching us and all the mums that helped out. By Fergus Watson

Year 3 & 4 Boys On Tuesday, the 9 boys from our team went into Stadium Southland to play our last game of miniball for the season. We had played superbly all season, winning all of our first 9 games, and now we had one game left. We were in the final!! Our team was playing the Sacred Heart Clippers who had Mr Murray’s boy Rohan playing in their team. Our first five on were Ben, Cooper, Lukas, Daniel Munro and Josh. Lukas jumped at tip off, but Sacred Heart won it. By half-time it was a nail-biting 6 all. With about 2 minutes to go they threw everything

they had at us. Our parents were yelling and cheering us on from the sideline. The noise was so intense we had to yell at each other just to hear. Our younger brothers and sisters were pretending to be cheerleaders! The final whistle blew and we looked up at the giant scoreboard… 13-8…. TO LIMEHILLS!!!!! We had won the Year 3 and 4 Boys Competition! At prizegiving the whole team went up to get the trophy and got a photo. A huge thank-you to Fleur and Todd for coaching us, and to all our mums and dads who have cheered us on each week. By Danny McDonald and Josh Cairns.

LITTLE RIPPERS Limehills little rippers has been a great success so far but we have made some new rules. The most important

rule we have now is the sign in/out sheet, When you drop your kids into Limehills little rippers you can't just drop them and leave you have to write your child's name and put your signature in the sign in and when you come and collect your child you have to put your signature in the sign out. We have made some new rules because we need to make Limehills little rippers a bit safer and like to keep your children safe. By Monique Woodd

SWIMMING In the last month the playground has been very busy, with Winton School coming for swimming. Limehills School students have been

playing and having a great time on the may pole, the swings and the tyre swing. It has also been very busy in the swimming pool with swimming lessons. Last week was the last week of swimming and it was full of assessments and achievements. Hopefully everyone learnt lots of different skills and techniques, to put into their swimming strokes. We hope we learn just as much next year! By Brooke A and Annalise

CENTRAL SATELLITE TENNIS TOURNAMENT Cameron and I and multiple Limehills students participated in the Central Satellite tournament this past Sunday. Cameron and I were both entered in the under 12’s along with Ethan Turnock. The day started well, sunny and a nice breeze. The tournament started at 9:00am and finished at

5:00pm. Cameron played 3 games and won 1 and Jack played 4 and won 2. Overall our results where phenomenal with Jack coming 4th and Cameron getting 3rd in the consolation. The day was awesome thanks to all of the organisers and the parents that took us there. Thank You. By Jack Churstain

VENTURE SOUTHLAND-Internet services Please pass this on throughout your networks as this information will help Venture Southland to advocate for better internet services. The more information we have the better understanding we will have of internet services around Southland. The Government have just announced the next stage of the Rural Broadband Initiative and the coverage maps they are using indicate that most areas of Southland are receiving adequate internet. In light of this we wish to undertake internet speed tests across the region as quickly as possible in order to assess whether this is in fact the case, as feedback through the survey indicates that many people remain dissatisfied with their internet. Venture Southland needs to submit back as part of this process by 25 November 2016. The speed test involves visiting a website which will undertake the speed test for you and then emailing the results back to us – All the instructions to complete are below. While this test has limitations it will give us an immediate insight into the situation. We will then follow up by sending out to a group of people a tester box which will measure speed and reliability more accurately over a longer period of time. I would be very grateful if you could return your test results as soon as convenient – by Friday 25 November at the latest. Go to http://www.speedtest.net/
