Welwyn garden City, “WgC”, “Welwyn garden” as it is commonly referred to is the ‘Second garden City’, having been founded by Ebenezer Howard following on from the success of Letchworth, the First garden City.

independent retailers supplying all manner of goods and services, with several local shopping areas, again catering for most daily needs.

The town centre has also seen an recent influx of eating establishments covering all tastes from Italian, Indian, English and French. Add to these the various cafes and coffee bars, there is quite literally something for everyone. The town centre is also home to Campus West Arts and Entertainment Centre where the Hawthorne Theatre, garden City Cinema and town Library are all situated.

About the DevelopmentBirkin Court will comprise 23 generously appointed two bedroom apartments and 3 bedroom townhouses.

The apartments will come in a choice of two layouts each consisting of 2 double bedrooms, the master bedroom is complimented by an en-suite shower room, wardrobes and there is also a separate family bathroom. Birkin Court is so named after Sir “Tim” Henry Birkin, inventor, car builder and

renowned racing driver who won the many races during his career including several

Le Mans 24 hours races in the 1920’s driving his own Bentley “Blower” race car. His car

building business, Birkin Motor Company, was at one time located on Broadwater Road.

The book Full Throttle was written in 1932 about his exploits and later turned in to a

1995 film of the same name. His character was played by none other than Rowan Atkinson.
