Above: White 4 of 1/JG 77 protected by a wall of sand bags. Note the dark bird silhouette with the capital letter ‘Y’ next to the 4.

Right: Bf 109E-4, W.Nr.5105, White 13 after crash-landing near High Halden, Kent, following combat with Hurricanes of 601 Squadron on 31/8/40. Its pilot, Oblt Hans-Jürgen Ehrig, Staffelkapitän, was taken prisoner. He achieved only one victory – a Morane 406 on 18/5/40 north of Valenciennes.

Above: This Bf 109E-3, Black 9 of 2/JG 77 was photographed in May 1940 at Odendorf. The double outline of the aircraft number is interesting.

Right: Black 13 of 2/JG 77 belly-landed near Marquise airfield in late summer 1940. This Bf 109E-1 has a new-style canopy. The yellow lightning flash on the fuselage certainly adds a dash of panache.

Bf 109E-3, W.Nr.5104, Brown 13, Gefr Karl Raisinger, 3/JG 77

Gefr Karl Raisinger of 3/JG 77 was forced down in Bf 109E-3, W.Nr.5104, Brown 13 at Harvey’s Cross Farm, Iford, East Sussex after his radiator had been damaged on 25/10/40. Raisinger achieved only one victory – a Hurricane on 17/10/40 south of Tunbridge Wells.

Gefr Raisinger’s aircraft showing four victory bars on the fin, (possibly the regular aircraft of Uffz Heinz Wiest). A small Danish flag beneath the bottom rear corner of the canopy is the only one left from what had been a row of flags. This photograph was taken in the Rootes car showroom in Maidstone, Kent.
