THE 22075VIC CERTIFICATE II IN AUSLAN* PREPARES STUDENTS FOR SIMPLE COMMUNICATION WITH DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING INDIVIDUALS OR GROUPS IN THE DEAF COMMUNITY. Students may be parents, family members or friends of a deaf person seeking to improve their communication skills, or social, community, education or health sector employees wishing to improve their communication with deaf consumers or colleagues, in addition to gaining further knowledge of Deaf history and culture.

*The Auslan Interpreter Funding Strategy subsidy is funded
by the Queensland Government and available to eligible
participants. To be eligible, you must have aspirations to
complete the 22075VIC Certificate II in Auslan, 22077VIC
Certificate III in Auslan, 22078VIC Certificate IV in Auslan,
22081VIC Diploma of Auslan and PSP50916 Diploma of
Interpreting, and sign a declaration form to this effect (the
declaration form can be found on the online enrolment form).

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
This course is designed to provide training in signing in a range of everyday social, employment and personal contexts, and includes an understanding of Deaf community principles and practices.
It teaches participants how to give routine information in Auslan in a number of contexts, identify principle characteristics of Auslan signs, and describe generally the cultural and historical trends and issues of the Deaf community.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There is no pre requisite for entering this course and therefore, no knowledge of Auslan or the Deaf community is required.
ON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION STUDENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO:
» Assess and record information from varied sources
» Give and receive simple information in Auslan in personal, learning, employment, social and community contexts
» Use a narrow range of established Auslan signs with some consistency
» Apply knowledge of Auslan structure when using Auslan signs and fingerspelling in conversation
» Use sign names in a culturally appropriate and sensitive way
» Use the internet to source relevant and credible information that supplements face to face and online learning
COURSE UNITS
VU20228: Use simple Auslan for employment purposes
VU20229: Use simple Auslan for learning purposes
VU20230: Use simple Auslan for personal purposes
VU20231: Use simple Auslan for social and community purposes
VU20232: Outline the development of social and educational conditions for Deaf communities
VU20233: Apply basic principles of learning Auslan as a second language
VU20234: Identify significant features of Deaf community and culture.
DURATION AND DELIVERY
Students can enrol in the day or night course. The 20 week course follows the school term. Delivery is blended and consists of 5 hours per week face to face classes and self-paced online learning through a student portal. Minimum course numbers are required for courses to go ahead.
VENUE FOR DELIVERY
The Brisbane South (Day & Night) course will be held at Deaf Services Queensland (915 Ipswich Road, Moorooka)
The Brisbane North courses (Day & Night) will be held at Upper Kedrom/Cedar Creek Hall (78 Cedar Creek Road, Upper Kedron)
PAYMENT
For full fee paying students, a deposit of 20% is due upon acceptance into the course with the balance as per individual payment plans.
For students accessing the subsidy, full payment of the student co-contribution fee is required upon acceptance into the course.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to continue on to study 22077VIC Certificate III in Auslan.
*This Qualification is currently seeking re-accreditation. This
occurs when industry reviews qualifications and replaces them
with a newer version.
Students wishing to enrol in the current courses may still do
so. Access Training & Eduation will provide more information
on the new course as it becomes available.
