Get Connected is a volunteer database website open to any non-profi t in Horry County. Volunteers can fi nd the opportunities that best suit them and agencies can fi nd the help they need. In 2015, there were 45 agencies and 615 users on the site.
Community OutreachDay of Caring - United Way of Horry County typically holds Day of Caring on the second Friday in September to kick off our campaign. Th e purpose is twofold; to enhance our community sites with improvements and updates and to engage our volunteers in a hands-on experience with our partners, so they can see fi rsthand the impact their gift s and eff orts are making.
On September 11, 2015, close to 300 volunteers worked in a dozen projects across Horry County. Baldwin Construction and Santee Cooper volunteers fi nished the upstairs room at the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club in Conway. Both North Strand and South Strand Helping Hands received new shelves. Volunteers painted and upgraded many of our other partners as well.
Th ank you to our sponsors and volunteers. You are the CHANGE in Horry County!
Caring for Kindergartners - Each year, Coastal Carolina University student-athletes read to kindergartners across Horry County to teach them a cycle of caring. Th e program shows the children the importance of giving to others. In 2015, Coastal Carolina University athletes read to 118 Horry County kindergarten classes in 24 schools on April 9. Th e athletes read Th e Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein to the students. Th e book is about a tree that gives everything it has to a man throughout their lifetimes. Th e kindergartners see the CCU athletes giving to them and then pay it forward. Following the reading, the children decorate cards to be delivered to shut-ins, mostly the elderly. United Way of Horry County puts a card in each bag it delivers to the homebound in its May Day bags on May 1.
May Day Bags - United Way of Horry County collects items like toiletries, books, and puzzles during the month of April to deliver to shut-ins come the fi rst week of May. Myrtle Beach Mall provides the bags that volunteers fi ll with the gift s.Th e recipients are identifi ed through Horry County Council on Aging and Mobile Meals of the Grand Strand.
2015 was the 15th year for the program. United Way of Horry County teamed up again with Myrtle Beach Mall and Easy 105.9 to deliver the bags to our homebound, mostly senior citizens. With the help of volunteers, we were able to fi ll 675 bags. Th at means every person who gets a home delivered meal in Horry County got a bag.
Campaign We are so fortunate to have such caring, giving organizations in our county. Th ese are the top companies whose employee and company gift s totaled more than $5,000, listed in order of giving level.

Our local United Way’s Board of Directors established the Leadership Giving Program in June 1996, with the exception of the Crescent Society which began in 2015.
Th ere are four Leadership Giving levels:Horry Society………………………….$500 – $999Palmetto Society……………………….$1,000 – $4,999Crescent Society……………………….$5,000 – $9,999Tocqueville Society…………………….$10,000 – above
Th is Leadership Giving Association not only recognizes a tradition of leadership and generosity, but also fosters, promotes, and acknowledges the importance of personal giving at an exceptional level.
While each person’s reason for giving is diff erent, the outcome of their generosity is always the same. Lives are changed. Neighborhoods are strengthened. Our community becomes a better place to live.

Through your support of United Way, you are helping thousands of people in Horry County each year.
Th ey are our friends and neighbors who have hit a rough time and need help getting back on their feet. Th ey are the children of our community who need a chance at a good start. Th ey are many who never thought they would end up in their circumstance.
Because of you, they have food on the table, counseling services to help them pull through, and lessons in literacy and fi nances that can help them take that next step. Th ey are readers, workers, residents, tax-payers, and students.
You are making a real diff erence. We see the results. Th ank you.
