For our visitors to our building:
The safety, health, and well-being of AMS South students, staff, volunteers, and visitors is a top priority.
For more details on the Avon Community School Corporation’s safety
procedures please visit our webpage or by following this link
https://www.avon-schools.org/Page/6585
Entering the Building
Anyone entering our building beyond the front office will need to have a valid photo ID with them so that they
can be checked in through our Safe Visitor Solutions system. You will be given a badge to wear while in the
building so that you are identified as a visitor. When leaving you will return to the front office so that
we can check you out of Safe Visitor Solutions and take your badge.
Early Dismissal
When a student needs to leave school early for an appointment, if someone other than a
parent or guardian will be picking up your student, please include his/her name
on the note or email ([email protected]).
Once we verify their photo ID then the student can sign out and leave.
For more attendance information please see Absence Procedures later in this newsletter.
Visiting Students during Lunch
If you would like to have lunch with your student we will follow the same procedures for
entering our building. If you would like someone other than a parent or guardian to have lunch with your
student we will need that information in writing, either with a note from a parent/guardian turned into the
front office before school or an email ([email protected]).
Please include the person(s) name that will be visiting, we will then follow the Entering the Building
procedure and check them into Safe Visitor Solutions.
ABSENCE PROCEDURE
If a student is absent from school, the PARENT must call the school by 8:30 A.M. to report the absence. If
no call is received, the automated school system will make an effort to contact the parent, but if NO
PARENT CALL has been received by 3:00 P.M. the day following the absence, the student will be charged
with an unexcused absence.
ATTENDANCE NOTIFICATION
The parent will be contacted by letter after their child has acquired five (5) absences excused or unexcused.
The purpose of the letter will be to offer help and support to the student. The parent will be contacted
again, after their child has acquired eight (8) absences excused or unexcused. The importance of good
school attendance will be stressed.
EARLY DISMISSALS
When a student needs to leave school early for an appointment, please send a note to school with your stu-
dent. Your student will then need to bring that note to the Main Office before the start of school to obtain
an Early Dismissal pass. If you are unable to send a note with your student, you may email the
school [email protected] with all the necessary information: Student name, reason for the
early dismissal, and the time the student needs to leave school. If someone other than a parent or guardi-
an will be picking up your student, please include his or her name on the note or email. Once we verify
their photo ID then the student can sign out and leave.
If leaving early for a Dr. appointment, please provide Dr. verification to ensure that the
absence is excused.
EXCESSIVE ABSENCES
Students who have (10) ten absences will be required to sign a “Parent Attendance Contract” and must have a
doctor's statement verifying each absence after the tenth absence. Failure to comply will result in a referral to
the “Project Attend” program. A student with a serious medical condition should have a medical report on file.
