2.1 Solving One Step Equations
Objective: Solve equations using addition and subtraction.
Discuss: 2 = 2. What if I add 3 to both sides?
![Page 2: 2.1 Solving One Step Equations Objective: Solve equations using addition and subtraction. Discuss: 2 = 2. What if I add 3 to both sides?](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022082917/5513e1f25503463a298b58f0/html5/thumbnails/2.jpg)
2.1 Solving One Step Equations
Remember: Adding or subtracting ANY number to BOTH Sides does not change the equation.
Remember: ADDING undoes SUBTRACTION
Remember: SUBTRACTING undoes ADDITION

2.1 Solving One Step Equations
SIMPLIFY: Combine like terms and/or distribute on the left and right if NEEDED.
SORT: variables on one side, numbers on the other
SOLVE: isolate the variable, must be a single POSITIVE variable.

2.1 Solving One Step Equations
GOAL: ISOLATE the variable.
That means get it by itself on one side with numbers and/or other variables on the other side.
Whatever I do unto one side of the equals sign; do unto the other.
To do this, follow the GOLDEN RULE of Equation Solving

Practice with Examples
Example 1: Solve x + 13 = 27
Always Check The Solution with Substitution!
