From the genesis of solidbody electric guitars in 1950 to the unleashing of the popular Relic guitars, Fender has been there for the momentous events that defined guitar culture. The year 1995 was a landmark in the history of the Fender Custom Shop—the year it introduced the world to Relic guitars. By offering authentic tone and broken-in feel of the original ’50s models without requiring decades of use, the introduction blindsided the industry. Ingeniously “reliced” by the Custom Shop and limited to a run of 95 units (a tribute to the year they were released), the Fender Custom Shop 20th Anniversary Relic Stratoaster honors the evolution of relicing and the Custom Shop’s mastery of the art. Each guitar tells an individual story, favored elements such as smooth-feeling Heavy Relic® necks with the slightest hints of finish on the back and worn fingerboards reflect a player’s unique touch. The highly resonant thin-coated Relic body appears to bear the “battle scars” from countless gigs, echoing innumerable hours of strumming and picking. Full of authentic Fender sound, the thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish allows the lightweight body to “breathe” with unrestrained resonance. With its traditional six-point tremolo bridge and pickups meticulously hand wound with vintage- accurate Formvar wiring, the 20th Anniversary Relic Stratocaster sings, whispers and soars with practiced ease.
