Water and Sanitation Access Adjusted by Inequality

Water Access Adjusted by inequality𝐴𝐴𝐴𝐴𝐴𝐴𝐴𝐴 = 𝐴𝐴𝐴𝐴. 1 − 𝐴𝐴𝐴𝐴

Sanitation Access Adjusted by inequality𝐴𝐴𝐴𝐴𝐴𝐴𝐴𝐴 = 𝐴𝐴𝐸𝐸 . 1 − 𝐴𝐴𝐸𝐸

These indexes calculate the access rate weighted by theway access to services are distributed. If there is noinequality, the variable D equals zero. Therefore, thepart of the equation (1 - D) acts as a reducer, or a wayto penalize inequalities.

FINAL CONSIDERATIONS

The report advanced in many of the recommendations andissues raised by the “Task Force on monitoring Inequalities forthe 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda”. Morespecifically:1) Explicit incorporation of the human rights framework in theanalysis of the access to WASH services and facilities.2) Use of different methods of analysis of inequalities, includinga new methodology regarding the evaluation of the Access toWater and Sanitation Adjusted by Inequality3) New strategies to approach the Affordability dimension4) Joint analysis of institutional aspects and access data toWASH services
