hat a past year we have all endured…. the COVID pandemic has been a most devastating and life-altering experience for
most of us. Since last Spring, our professional and personal life experiences, schedules, opportunities, and expectations all changed as we had to adjust to our ‘new’ lives and our faith practices transitioning from loving in faith together in-person to virtual or socially distanced alternatives.
Many of us lost loved ones. Lovingly, we continue to pray for them and
for those they left behind at our parishes, the ACC, and our most sacred Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.
As we are feeling hope in the air with reduced cases of the virus, a sense of normalcy is detectable.
This year, our Annual Appeal, Together in Mission ‘Forward with Faith’ campaign is fast approaching. Our schedule (June vs. the traditional February) and launch (one week vs three) are different, but our mission profoundly the same.
Our financially struggling parishes and schools were severely impacted by the coronavirus. As we emerge as one Catholic family from this pandemic, the call to help those in need is deeper and louder.
This year, our Together in Mission 2021 ‘Forward with Faith’ goal is $15.35M and we need your help in achieving this large benchmark. On June 5-6, we will be celebrating our Together in Mission 2021 Announcement, Commitment, and Follow-up launch at once and we need to encourage our parishioners to deeply and loudly respond to Archbishop Gomez’s call to action to love our poor.
With a renewed sense of purpose, the Together in Mission Team is ready to assist you in every way in educating your communities about the critical need for the success of our Annual Appeal. I ENCOURAGE every pastor to ‘raise the bar’ on his parish participation goal for the Annual Appeal. If a parish’s past Together in Mission parish participation rate has been 12%, for example, set a goal of 15%. Keep your parishes informed of your success as you move throughout the year until the end of the campaign.
We look forward to hearing from you and helping you in every way.
Blessings of hope,
Dee Smith | Director of Annual Appeals
Greetings from the Annual Appeals Office!

The Bulletin Announcement is to be printed in the Parish Bulletin or other parish publications. It can also be published on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
2021 Bulletin Announcement 2021 ‘Forward with Faith’ Annual Appeal
2021 Homiletics Reflection Homiletics
The Together in Mission 2021 “Forward with
Faith” Annual Appeal launch is June 5-6,
2021. Please make a special effort to attend
mass, virtually or in-person, so we can pray
and reflect on how we can continue to help
our struggling parishes and schools in the
Archdiocese of Los Angeles. One in EVERY
5 parishes needs financial assistance and 1 in
every 4 Catholic schools needs critical funds
to keep their doors open.
This year’s cumulative Together in Mission
goal is $15.35M throughout all five regions, so
please visit your Together in Mission poster
in your church vestibule for your parish’s
Together in Mission goal. Together, let’s make
a difference for those in need especially after
this most challenging year.”
Clearly, this past year has been a challenging
time for many of our parish communities. Yet
Catholics all around the Archdiocese have
still found ways to come together and move
forward.
On this Solemnity of the Body and Blood of
our Lord Jesus Christ, we begin our annual
Together In Mission appeal by announcing this
year’s theme: “Forward with Faith”.
Only by remaining united in the Eucharist will
we be able to stay faithful to God and each
other, especially those who are struggling the
most. So we ask you today, would you please
consider making a gift to help other members
of the Body of Christ to keep moving forward
with faith? Thank you.

The 2021 Annual Appeal in ActionOur goal each year is for 100% participation of families at each parish to make a gift. We need our parish leaders to make an impassioned call to action of the importance of making a gift, no matter the size.
1. The materials that include in-pew
envelopes, bulletin inserts, and pencils,
should be divided and distributed at every
Mass on Sunday. For easy transition between
Masses, use clearly labeled baskets for gifts.
2. Enlist parish volunteers to distribute the
Annual Appeal materials in accordance with
COVID guidelines in your regions and pick up
the baskets afterward with the donations and
secure them in a safe location.
3. Utilize all resources to enhance the
ask by implementing the homiletics,
the in-pew script, campaign video, and
bulletin announcements to improve your
talking points about the campaign on
the Parish Resources tab on our website,
TogetherinMission.org.
4. Post Together in Mission content on Social
Media pages.
5. Conduct the in-pew process using the
in-pew script, video, pledge envelope, and
collection of donations through a secure
basket procedure.
Use all of the materials and graphics we
provide for you at TogetherinMission.org
on the Parish Resources page. All the materials
provided to your parish are on our website.
Ask your youth group and young adult
ministries to help you post on social media.
You’ll be surprised how much they want to help!

The Efforts of the In-pew Process B R I N G I N G T H E A N N U A L A P P E A L T O L I F E
EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE ASKED TO COMMIT. The in-pew process is the
moment for every parishioner to receive
a personal invitation during our launch
from their Pastor to either renew or make
their gift for the first time. Even the most
dedicated donor needs to be invited
to make a gift and believe their gift is
important to the success of the campaign.
Additionally, the in-pew process should
also be thought of as an impactful way for
your parish to invite parishioners who have
never made a gift to make an inaugural gift
to the appeal. The higher the participation
the more successful your parish will be.
COMMIT TO MAKING A GIFT. Every time
during Mass one must use the supplied
pledge envelopes or their mobile phones.
Because of COVID, we are providing
contactless communication in the form of
a QR code and Text-To-Give. All Together
in Mission 2021 have a QR Code and Text-
To-Give, including our banner and poster.
Please ensure that parishioners understand
that they can pay off a pledge over several
months (7 months) and billing reminders
will be e-mailed and mailed for their
convenience.
IT TAKES A VILLAGE. Consider inviting
those who pledge to place their envelopes
into the designated baskets placed in
strategically safe yet accessible locations
and according to COVID guidelines in your
region. To enhance your in-pew process
to show your congregation that they are
a part of the bigger picture of helping our
poor.
Collecting the Pledge EnvelopesPlease ensure that there is a formal process in place to collect the pledge envelopes after the in-pew process. This collection process should be separate from your weekly offertory collection.
BELOW ARE A FEW EXAMPLES OF THE COLLECTION PROCESSES IN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS 1. Have ushers pass around baskets to pick up pledge envelopes directly after the in-pew process.
2. Place a basket in front of the altar and have parishioners drop in their
pledge envelopes after or during Mass.
3. Place baskets in the aisle and invite parishioners to drop into them after Mass.
Please follow COVID guidelines in the five regions of the Arcdhicoese of Los Angeles for this process.

GIVING THROUGH QR CODE. Anyone can give with their phone’s camera directly through the QR code. It makes it very simple. The QR code directs donors to our landing page where a donor selects their parish to begin gift process.
The Together in Mission banners, bulletin insert, and remit envelopes have a QR code for donors.
Please encourage the donor to make a gift through contactless giving like QR Code.
GIVING THROUGH TEXT-TO-GIVE. Now we have a text-to-give as a contactless giving option in 2021. Anyone can text “Forward21” to (213) 397-0682.

This weekend, Archbishop Gomez invites all Catholics to make their yearly commitment to the Together in Mission Annual Appeal. I want to thank everyone who has given generously to Together in Mission in the past. Your support has ensured that the doors remained open at parishes & schools who experience financial hardship (like we just saw on the video) in our Archdiocese. Your past gifts have made their work and ministries possible.
- PAUSE -
For those of you who are new to our parish or may not have not made a gift in the past, I hope you are inspired and deeply touched by the impact your gifts can make in the lives of those supported by Together in Mission. We invite you to make a commitment of $350, or $50 a month to help the parish communities and schools most in need. I ask that everyone here today make a true commitment to this campaign. Each of us is called to love one another through our prayers and actions. Together in Mission is a perfect opportunity to act on our love for our Catholic brethren living right here in our community. And what better day to show our love than on The Solemnity of Corpus Christi. At this time, you can find pledge envelopes at the end of every pew for your use. We also have included QR Codes on all Together in Mission 2021 materials if you prefer contactless communication to make your gift. Just scan the QR code found on
the in pew envelopes, poster or banner and you can complete your gift electronically.
- PAUSE -
For those parishioners who would like to pay their pledge electronically, we invite you to pull out your mobile phones and visit togetherinmission.org to make your gift. The website is also found on the pledge card in the pews. You can also fulfil your pledge this year by texting ‘Forward21’ to 213-397-0682.
- PAUSE - For those of you that would like to use the paper commitment envelope please complete the first 3 lines of the pledge card with your family’s biographical information. You will see there is a box to mark if you have given to Together in Mission in the past.
- PAUSE -
Please select that box if your family has made a gift to the campaign. Please remember that your generous gift could have been made at another parish.
- PAUSE -
If your address has an apartment or suite number please be sure to include it on the address line. This address information will be used by the Together in Mission office to send you pledge reminders and send you tax receipts.
- PAUSE -
Please also consider including your email address and phone number. The Together in Mission office will use this contact information to remind you of your pledge balance and send you email receipts. Next, please select your Total Commitment Amount for the 2021 campaign.
2021 Annual Appeal In-Pew ScriptThe Together in Mission 2021 Launch is a single weekend - June 5-6. Please use the following script but feel free to customize your script for your community.
Together in Mission | 17
![Page 18: 2021 TRAINING MANUAL...Advent ABG 2nd Ask December 7th 4th Letter arrives January 17, 2022 End-of-Campaign February 10, 2022 2nd Rebates sent Together in Mission Calendar ... Remember, you are selecting the total amount that you and your family can commit throughout 2021. Due to the coronavirus, the Together in Mission campaign is condensed. You can pay your pledge over 7 months vs. the usual 10. Or you can make your one-time gift in full. We are also inviting you this year to join the Together in Mission Sustainer program which would mean you will be making continuous monthly payments to this appeal. Please select one of the listed total commitment amounts or write-in your own amount in the appropriate box.
- PAUSE -
We encourage you to commit to a gift that is within your family’s means. The Together in Mission office will send monthly billing reminders to your home and if you provide your email address, we can send you email reminders if you prefer.
- PAUSE -
If you want to include a first installment on your pledge today, write on the line labeled “amount enclosed” you are choosing to include today and place your check or cash in the remit envelope.
- PAUSE -
For those of you wanting to pay by credit card, you can choose to make a one-time gift or divide your total pledge into monthly payments. Simply select thebox marked “monthly installments” on the pledge card.
- PAUSE -
(Due to COVID guidelines, we will not be collecting the remit envelopes this year, but we have conveniently placed large baskets at the front of the church and back, so that you can place your envelope and gift in this container. Please don’t take the envelope home. It important that you consider making your pledge today. Our in pew launch is one weekend, not the conventional three,so please don’t leave for tomorrow what you can do today!
On behalf of the more than 15,000 students, and their families attending the schools this campaign supports, as well as the approximate 525,000 families living in the 67 parish communities that will benefit from your generosity we would like to thank you for your support.
- END OF SCRIPT -
Be Yourself in 2021!
The In-pew Process is a critical part of our campaign. It is important to be prepared and to study our script to be comfortable. But we want to encourage you to be yourself. Who you are is very important to us. We want you to use the script, but please be yourself! We believe that every personality gives life to the campaign in a unique way. There’s no one like you!

The Renewed Landing Page for Annual AppealThe Together in Mission team has renewed our user experience for our digital donors. The “landing page”(see image above) is the webpage that donors will find themselves during the giving process whether they use togetherinmission.org, text-to-give, or QR code.
It is a part of our comprehensive response to social distancing, new technology, and a more automated interaction online.
In the past, the “landing page” was our page with our online giving form. However, during the 2021 Annual Appeal, our landing page is now an initial webpage where a donor chooses their parish from a drop-down menu before selecting “Give Now.” After a donor selects their parish, they will then be directed to a specific online giving form that has been automated by that parish. Their gift will then be contributed to the goal of the selected parish and be applied to the leaderboard (see
information on the dynamic leaderboard in the training manual).
Please note that there is a “No Parish” option for donors who want to make an anonymous gift that will not be attributed to the goal of a specific parish.
As we move forward with faith, the Together in Mission team is committed to consistently upgrading the user experience for donors and parishes alike.
This image above is the renewed landing page for the online giving process for Together in Mission 2021.

Our New Dynamic Leaderboard One of the most exciting and dynamic tracking tools that has been created by the Annual Appeals Office and GiveCentral is our Together in Mission Leaderboard. This webpage will interactively provide to every online donor the ability to view one’s parish’s annual appeal performance after she/he has made an online pledge or gift.
After a gift pledge or donation has been electronically submitted, the donor is routed to the Together in Mission leaderboard where St. Lucy, the Patron Saint of sight, greets all visitors on this webpage. One will see the current Together in Mission campaign’s YTD performance for ALL 300 plus parishes across all five regions.
Once a donor continues to scroll down the page, he/she will see a field in which one can choose their parish. All parishes are in alphabetical order and have their city location. On an Our Lady of Guadalupe mural background, our donors
are invited to then type in their parish’s name, and their parish’s year-to-date pledges and gift donations will be shown.
This Together in Mission leaderboard will be updated every two weeks with new performance results from the Annual Appeals Office. We hope that in addition to the Parish Detail Reports and Individual Donors Reports, our pastors, associate pastors, and parish staffs will find this a fun and informative site.
This image above depicts the dynamic leaderboard
webpage during the online giving process for a donor.

HOW TO BUILD A BATCH: STEP 1: Review handwritten pledge cards to ensure that they are legible and all the essential biographical information is present. Please add a name or address information if known so that we can record and send accurate reminders to the donor. If a partial name or address is listed on the pledge card the donation will be listed under the parish record as an anonymous donation. See appendix for examples of transmittal and pledge envelopes.
STEP 2: Separate, bundle, and affix the pre-printed label to the matching donor envelope. If you do not have a label for the donor write the donor’s name in the donor field.
(Do not separate donor’s checks from their pledge cards.)
ALL BATCHES SHOULD CONTINUE TO BE SENT TO:

STEP 3: Record the number of items enclosed and the total amount pledged and paid. We have created a static and fillable pdf transmittal form and excel files at TogetherinMission.org on the Parish Resources page. Please use whichever transmittal form you’re most comfortable with.
STEP 4: Make a copy/save an electronic copy of the transmittal for your records. Very Important!
STEP 5: Use the supplied pre-addressed Tyvek return envelopes to mail all bundled pledge cards with a completed transmittal.
STEP 6: Send your batches directly to LCI. Please note that batches mistakenly sent to the Together in Mission office will result in a delay in your batch being processed.
HELPFUL TIPS WHILE BUILDING YOUR BATCH:
• Organization is key. Stay organized designating a place to reconcile your batch.• Study the training manual to learn the steps and requirements.• Replace all cash from parishioners with a parish check.• Do not staple or paper clip checks to pledge cards - this will delay the processing time of your batch!
After the campaign launch, please send pledge cards/payments as they are received. PLEASE DO NOT HOLD!
(Weekly batches are appreciated).LCI will process batches as they are received. The batch contents are verified against the transmittal to ensure that the total number of items we receive

matches the amounts stipulated on the transmittal. If needed, corrections will be made and reflected on the “Donor Exception Report” emailed to the parish email address on file with the Together in Mission Office.
IF THE BATCH IS COMPLETE
If the batch is complete and accurate, checks are deposited and all items are processed. The parish receives a “Donation Entry Report” after a batch has been processed.
IF CHANGES ARE NEEDED TO THE BATCH
If the parish check is “short,” meaning it does not have enough funds to cover the entirety of the pledge cards

included in the parish batch, LCI will process as many items as possible and a representative from our office will contact the parish and return the items that represent the shortfall. These items can be included in the next batch from the parish. If the parish check exceeds the amount represented by the pledge cards in the batch, LCI will process the remaining funds as anonymous gifts on the parish’s record.

Important: Please note that for the Together in Mission 2021 campaign, four giving fields have been given instead of five in addition to the other blank option.
Important: Please note that there was a change to the transmittal. We added a field for recurring gifts. A recurring gift is a gift that does not have an end date but continues indefinitely until the donor requests that it stop.
