Advice for attendees at the DOGS Victoria State Obedience Trials on Saturday 7th August and the DOGS

Victoria State Rally Trials on Sunday 8th August 2021 run by the OTEC.

The trials will be conducted in accordance with Victorian Government requirements current at the time. This

document provides details for the conduct of the State Obedience and Rally trials in a COVID safe manner.

General information:

Attendees must maintain social distancing and wear their masks at all time inside or

outside, unless they have a medical exemption, which they must have with them.

Judges & stewards will also be wearing masks at all times.

1. Advice to handlers • Everyone attending this fixture must check in by using the QR codes or enter their details on the sheet

provided upon arrival.

• Handlers will need to be aware that judges and stewards will be using hand sanitiser etc.

• People cannot attend if they have been in a red zone or attended a tier 1 site in the last 14 days.

• People must not attend if they have any of the following symptoms – fever, sore throat, dry cough,

runny nose or shortness of breath. This applies to those with even the mildest of symptoms.

• Any person who, in the last 14 days, has returned from overseas, been unwell, or had close contact

with a known or suspected case of COVID-19 will be asked to leave the site.

2. Check In • All additional attendees will be required to provide their details by using the QR code facility available at

the check-in desk. • Handlers must use hand sanitiser at check-in. • Volunteers must use their own pens or clean pens before and after use. • You will be asked to vet your bitches under the supervision of a trial official.

3. Ring set up • Officials and helpers setting up equipment will be required to hand sanitise before touching and setting

up equipment and before/after packing away at the end of the day.

4. Catering

• No catering will be provided for exhibitors. Exhibitors should bring their own food and drinks if

required.

• Catering will be supplied for Officials.

6. Ring Etiquette

• Handlers cannot borrow a pen from the steward or judge. • Only the judge should touch the judge’s clip board. • Handlers cannot touch the steward’s clip board.

7. Toilets

• No loitering in the toilets at all. Toilets will be cleaned by the organisers.

8. Parking

• All attendees are reminded that social distancing should still be maintained in the parking area.

9. COVID Safe Marshals

• Suitably trained officials will be designated to oversee all activities to maintain compliance and ensure

the safety of all attendees. Please obey any directives they may give.

10. Ring equipment

• RING TABLE: The table will be wiped down between handlers.

OBEDIENCE: STEWARD’S BOARD: Handlers are not to touch the steward’s board when checking scores. EQUIPMENT: it is advisable to bring all equipment in individual containers.

DUMBBELL: (This applies to Novice and Open classes) Handler should provide the dumbbell in an open container and place on ring table. Dumbbell is NOT to be left

loose on ringside table. Handler will be instructed to go and collect their dumbbell from the table before commencement of the retrieve

exercises and return it at the conclusion of these exercises. OPEN, UD and UDX ITEMS/ARTICLES REQUIRED: Items required for these classes – it is advisable to bring all equipment in individual containers within a

single plastic container with the lids removed from the individual containers. The handler shall remove the lid from the main container and the individual containers when the container is

placed on the ring table. The handler is responsible for returning the lids to the containers at the conclusion of

their time in the ring and removing the container from the table. Note: Handler will have Exercise 1 Seek Back article available ready for judge to take with tongs. UDX Competitors will need to provide a container holding separate containers for:

Seek back with decoy; Scent Discrimination Judge’s Scent (5 sets of 2 colour coded cloths); and

Multiple Retrieve (3 leathers).

This Trial is conducted by the OTEC of DOGS Victoria under the Rules and Regulations of Dogs Victoria, a copy of which is available with the Trial Secretary.

Dogs Victoria Top Obedience Dog/s of the Year The competition in its three forms has been running continuously since 1992. Originally the pedigree and non-pedigree, (associate dogs) were separated into separate rings. The first event was won by Shenfield Kennels with a Shetland Sheepdog and the non-pedigreed section was won by Kim Hone with her Kelpie. Since 1993 all breeds including non-pedigree compete together. That was a battle well fought. This award is highly prized among the obedience fraternity and the competition has always been watched with great interest. Sadly, over recent years, obedience has been challenged by other disciplines. Not necessarily easier, but more dog friendly, in some cases. After declining entries, the OTEC have come up with another idea, borrowed from NSW.

These are the 2021 finalists.

Winners will be announced on the day of the State Obedience Trial.

Unfortunately, due to the Victorian extended lockdown, there were not many opportunities for

trialing. Well done to those who did get there.
