All packets contain 10 seedlings

and average 6” and up in size.

A. Blue Spruce, Picea pungens: Beauti-ful ornamental or windbreak tree with stiff, sharp pointed needles ranging in color from dark green to silver blue. Prefers moist, well-drained soils, plenty of sunlight, and requires little shaping.

B. Norway Spruce, Picea abies: Excep-tionally fast growing, straight stemmed stock makes this tree desirable for Christmas trees, ornamentals, timber or windbreaks. The twigs and branch-lets hang downward; height of 60-90 feet; intolerant of shade, sensitive to drought.

C. White Pine, Pinus strobus: A five-needled pine with soft, light green needles 4” long. Can tolerate shade, ordinary soil; even wet areas. Mature height is 100 feet.

D. Black Hills Spruce, Picea glauca den-sata: Slow growth to 40 feet with a spread of 15-25 feet. One of the most tolerant spruces, withstands wind, heat, cold, drought, and crowding; does best in full sun. Provides dense shelter for wildlife. Excellent farmstead windbreaks.

E. Douglas Fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii: Grows to 60 feet, needles are short, soft and blue green. Grows best in moist, well drained soil.

F. Arborvitae, Thuga occidentalis: A medium sized tree with a shallow, wide spreading root system and narrow, pyramid shaped crown. Maximum height is 40’-60’ with a 12’-15’ spread. Prefers full sun but can tolerate light shade.

G. Bald Cypress, Taxodium distichum: Grows 50-70 feet in height. Spread of 20 feet. Bright yellow-green needles in spring turning to rich orange to pump-kin brown in autumn. Deciduous. Grows in a wide range of soil conditions from wet , swampy areas to dry ground. Good for wetland plantings.

Seedlings, shrubs, and more.... The District is offering some new selections as well as many varieties that we offer each year. Deadline for ordering is

April 2, 2021, but order early as they are sold on a first come-first served basis and many seedlings will be sold out before that date. Pickup dates for seedlings are Friday, April 23, 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 24- 8:00 a.m. -

Noon at Geig’s Orchard, 8468 Wooster Pike (State Route 3), Seville. Most seedlings will easily fit in a grocery sack.

H. Red Oak, Quercus rubra: Fast growth to 60-70 feet with equal spread. Grows best in sandy to rich loamy soil in full sun. Tolerant of urban conditions such as salt, ozone and Sulphur dioxide.

I. Swamp White Oak, Quercus bicolor; Grows to 50-60 feet in height and spread. Does well in wet swampy conditions along rivers and streams.

J. River Birch, Betula nigra: Rapid growth, grows to a height of 50 feet with a spread of 40 feet. Prefers full to partial sun and moist to wet soils.

K. Black Maple, Acer nigrum: grows to a height of 60-75 feet tall, with a spread of 40-50 feet. Grows in full sun to partial shade, prefers moist, well drained soil. Attracts pollinators and can be used for maple production.

L. Hazelnut, Corylus Americana: Medi-um fast growth rate. A multi-stemmed small tree growing 10-15 feet in height. Dark green summer foliage turns light yellow in fall. Edible nuts mature September to October.

M. American Hornbeam, Carpinus caro-liniana: Slow growing 20 to 30 feet in height and spread. Small, multi-stemmed, bushy shrub or single stemmed tree with a wide spreading, flat or round topped crown. Fall color yellow-orange, red and reddish purple. A good wetland plant.

N. Paw Paw, Asimina triloba: Known for its banana like fruits, large tropical looking leaves and unique, red flowers.

O. American Persimmon, Diospyros virginiana, Grows 25 to 40 feet in height and 20 to 35 in width. The white, fragrant flowers are very sweet and a favorite of honeybees. Edible fruit, and more than one tree is needed for pollination.

P. Butternut, Juglans cinerea: Grows 40-60 feet. Spread of 30-50 feet. Prefers moist, rich, well drained soil, but tolerates drier, rocky soil conditions. Trees should begin to bear sweet edible fruit within 16-20 years.

Q. Redbud, Cercis canadensis: A small tree with irregular branching, rarely over 35 feet in height. The blossoms appear in the spring before the leaves. Seeds eaten by birds, flower buds enjoyed by butterfly larvae.

R. Shagbark Hickory, Carya ouata: Slow growth to a height of 100 feet with a spread of 40 feet. Prefers Full to partial sun and well drained moist to dry soils.

S. Tulip Poplar, Liriodendron tulipifera: Rapid growth, to a height of 80 feet with a spread of 40 feet. Prefers full to partial sun in moist well drained soils. Spring flowers provide nectar for hummingbirds and the seeds summer through winter provide food for both birds and mammals.

T. Red Oiser Dogwood, Cornus stolonif-era: Grows 7-10 feet tall, 6-8 feet wide. Prefers sandy to clay soils, does well on moderately wet soils. Flowers in May, fruit eaten by birds.

U. Winterberry, Ilex verticillata: Medium growth rate grows 18'-24' tall with 10'-12' spread. Rounded shape with slender branches. Tolerant of many soil conditions. Full sun to partial shade.

V. Button Bush, Cephalanthus occidental-is: Medium growth to a height of 7 feet with a spread of 15 feet. Grows in full sun. It is a wetland plant that has globular pure white flowers in the summer. Plant provides cover for ducks, flowers attracts bees, butterflies and birds.

W. Spicebush, Lindera benzoin: Height of 6 to 12 feet. Deciduous shrub, very toler-ant of wet conditions. Suitable for shady areas. Scarlet fruit fall through early winter.

X. White Flowering Dogwood, Cornus florida: Native tree that bears white flowers in spring and red berries in fall. Shade tolerant.

Miscellaneous Sale Items

I. Flags (10) - Flags are 21” long with a blue flag for easy spotting of your seedlings in yards and fields.

II. Fertilizer tablets (10) - Time release tablets for trees and other plants. The formula contains nitrogen, phospho-rous, potassium, and trace elements in solid form to feed plants in a wide range of soil and climate conditions. Use one tablet per seedling, transplant, and other wood cutting.

III. Bluebird House (each) - these houses are made from cedar. The ideal location is near mixed hardwood forests or grasslands. Boxes should be mounted on posts about 5 feet above the ground.

IV. Northeast Perennial & Annual Wildflower mix (1 ounce packet) - This is a beautiful all-purpose wildflower mix, containing about 1/3 annual wildflowers for first year & 2/3 perennials for color the following years. This is a mix of native and naturalized species. Each packet will plant 200 sq. ft.

V. Garden cover crop seeds: (1 lb packet) - Garden Cover Crop Mixes help to reduce erosion and compaction, and increase water permeation in the garden. They also hold minerals normally leached from your soil over the winter. Densely planted cover crops will suppress perennial and winter annual weed growth. The top growth and roots add organic matter to the garden soil. The cover crop’s root system also opens passageways that help improve air and water movement and supports microbial life. This microbial life works synergistically with the roots, bacteria and fungi to improve soil health. Mix contains untreated seeds suitable for organic gardeners, plant in August through October first, with no soil prep. Covers 200 sq. ft., winter kills. **These will be available for pick up in June.**

VI. Shiitake Mushroom kits: Enjoy fresh, delicious gourmet mushrooms year-round. Each kit comes with 200 spawn plugs, 1/4 lb. bees wax, wax dauber, and 5 metal labels with growers guide. Each kit will plug approximately 10 3 to 4” diameter logs, 40” long. It can take from 7 months to 2 years for the mushrooms to spawn. Logs (you supply) that will work include white oak, bur oak, swamp white oak, red & black oak, soft maple and hickory.

VII. Pollinator Kit: Great for sunny flower beds, flowers will bloom between May-September. Contains sixteen (16) flowers, four each of the following varieties: Hairy Petunia, Rose Gentian, Lyre Leaved Sage and Crooked Stem Aster. **These will be available for pick up May 12th.**

VIII. Sunny Rain Garden Kit: Great for sunny rain gardens or wet flower gardens, flowers will bloom between May-September. Contains sixteen (16) flowers, four each of the following varieties: Copper Iris, Cardinal Flower, Blue Vervain and Marsh Blue Violet. **These will be available for pick up May 12th.**

IX. Partial Shade Rain Garden Kit: Great for partially shaded rain gardens or wet flower gardens, flowers will bloom between May-September. Contains sixteen (16) flowers, four each of the following varieties: Columbine, Pink Turtlehead, Blue Lobelia, and Prairie Sundrop. **These will be available for pick up May 12th.**
