GREETINGS!

Have you felt like time is standing still over the past 9 months? It may not have completely stopped but from a design and construction standpoint is has decelerated to a much slower pace.

The pandemic has caused extensive delays in the production and delivery of materials and supplies, affecting both construction and remodels.

The Kitchen & Bath Industry Show, International Builders Show, and The International Surfaces Event have been virtual events this year and lacked the introduction of new design trends because of delays in manufacturing.

What does this mean from a design standpoint? In my opinion, it means we will see many of the trends from 2020 carry into 2021. I do not think this is a bad thing as the designs from 2020 haven’t really had their time to shine. If you were not so crazy about some of the 2020 color trends then you will be happy to know that paint colors are the one thing that the design world did move forward with in 2021.

LETS TALK COLOR

Get ready for the Bold & The Beautiful to take the stage in 2021.

Another beautiful colorful for 2021 is Benjamin Moore’s AEGEAN TEAL. I have already decided that this beautiful blue-green will be making an appearance in one of my home designs in 2021 as the cabinetry color for a large island paired with champaign gold pulls.

It all started with Pantone breaking tradition this year and naming two colors; ILLUMINATING, a vibrant yellow, and ULTIMATE GRAY, the first true neutral to make the list. These two colors work great together, and I envision them as being the hottest colors for pillows, accent chairs, and accessories.

Don’t forget the classics; BLACK and WHITE. With everyone spending more time at home, the idea of a bright space has become popular. From modern to farmhouse, white can provide the perfect backdrop for this year’s trending pops of color including ORANGE, BLUES, GREENS, and PINKS. Just like with clothing, I am a believer that black adds a classy look to any style. It’s perfect for an accent wall or cabinetry.

My prediction for this years most used color of the year is URBANE BRONZE by Sherwin Williams. From modern to

traditional, this deep bronze with gray undertones will bring warmth and sophistication to any space. I love this color for a master bedroom, study, cabinetry, feature wall, or even the entire house if a dark, rich color doesn’t scare you. This bold neutral will work in any space.

It’s no secret that luxury vinyl plank flooring will likely hold the number one spot well into the future. This waterproof and kid & pet friendly product offers a luxurious look in any room of your home, making it a popular choice. I expect to see light colored, wide planks as the most popular choice for 2021. I have had the opportunity to see this amazing vinyl product replicate beautiful tiles and hope that 2021 will bring more tile-like options to the market.

Geometric and dimensional designs will lead the ceramic and porcelain tile designs. Black is back and will start appearing in bathrooms everywhere. Get ready for tiles to be the statement piece in bathrooms with bold color and pattern choices. I think we will still see the timeless marble look but I am excited about the rich colors and styles that will be at the forefront in 2021. Mixing patterns and colors will be trending and I believe white, black, gold, and pink will lead the way. Modern, sophisticated spaces will be the look of the year.

I call it modern chic, with a fun and vintage vibe, as a new style change is in the works featuring flat-front cabinets. They will be popular in the classics; white, black, and gray or fun, with bold colors like blues and greens. But, the biggest surprise may be the wood tones. Warm, earthy tones will soften the space and bring another texture to the room. What pairs well with this sleek design? A beautiful quartz countertop of course. I’m afraid granite may have to take a back seat for now and let this exquisite and maintenance-free product take the spotlight that is deserves.

Warm, wood tones, geometric shapes, clean lines, flat front cabinetry and pops of colors like yellow, orange, blues, and greens. Close your eyes for a minute and pull it all together. What do you see? I picture a simple design with fun and quirky elements like those in Mid-Century Modern design.

Go ahead and plan a day to your local antique store because the furniture we thought was hideous as teenagers may be the statement piece in your new design style should you choose to embrace the era.

Whether you are looking to find the latest home trends or sticking with a classic look, Home Outlet & Barton's stores offer a wide selection of in-store and special order products - at a great value.
