2021-2022 UWM Large Instrumental Ensemble Audition for STRINGS Audition Schedule: Auditions for String Instruments – Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass must be submitted electronically this year. CLICK HERE to complete the audition form and attach your audio file [due by Wednesday, August 31, 2021, 5pm]. Please make sure you are logged into Office 365 using your UWM credentials; this is the only way the form will accept your audio file. This form will collect pertinent information and audio recordings of audition repertoire. You can choose to either upload an audio file or add an online link. Audition Requirement 1. Solo Piece : ALL students are required to perform a 3-5 minute solo of their choice, which best represents their playing ability. 2. Orchestra Excerpts: Students interested in performing in the symphony orchestra must prepare and perform orchestra excerpts attached to this document. Recording Guideline 1. Record both your solo piece and the excerpts in ONE take, as if you would play at an in-person audition. Only ONE audio file/audio link for each student. 2. If you are recording on a video recording device (ie: Smart Phone camera), the video should not show your playing (be sure that your camera is facing a wall or on object. 3. All String auditions must be submitted electronically by August 31st, 5pm. Helpful Tips on Preparing Excerpts 1. Practice with a METRONOME 2. Pay attention to Intonation, Rhythm, Sound, and Musical markings 3. Consult the full orchestra score as much as you can and understand the role of your part in each section. (Available for download at imslp.org) 4. Watch/Listen to several different recordings WITH your part and score 5. When you record, you can skip the long rests/empty measures
