2020 Beneficiaries
Cape Cod Baseball League • Youth Clinic Scholarships
The Cape Cod Baseball League is the premier college summer league in the nation, dating back to 1885, with 350 players on teams in 10 villages across the Cape. The league recruits college players from across the country who quickly become part of the Cape community, living with local families and teaching youth clinics during the day. In addition to the fundamentals and skills of baseball, these college players are also role models, teaching the benefits of hard work, respect and teamwork to local kids in a fun environment. The Cape League players are very accessible after their nightly games, much to the delight of their clinic “students” who often attend with their parents to cheer on their mentors. www.capecodbaseball.org
Cape Cod Healthcare • Hospice Services The mission of Cape Cod Healthcare is to coordinate and deliver the highest quality, accessible health services to all Cape Cod residents and visitors. The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of Cape Cod Hospice enhances the quality of life for those facing terminal illness through compassionate care thoughtfully tailored to each patient and family as they navigate the end of life together. Hospice philosophy includes medical care, support, and guidance to help patients live the rest of their days as comfortably and fully as possible. The VNA of Cape Cod Hospice cares for patients in the hospital, at home, or in a skilled nursing facility, including the McCarthy Care Center, an inpatient hospice facility slated to reopen in 2020 after undergoing extensive renovations. www.capecodhealth.org
Cape Cod Military Support Foundation • Enhanced Services for Military Families
The Cape Cod Military Support Foundation helps satisfy critical needs and enhances the well-being and quality of life for Veterans and Active Duty Military and their families. Programs include an Empowerment Center that provides emergency services, food assistance, clothing, prepared meals and personal hygiene products; Operation Backpacks; Family Services; Coats4 Vets; Holiday Parties for Veteran and Military families; Military Awards and Education and Transitional Assistance. The Foundation is located on Joint Base Cape Cod and serves Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. www.capecodmilitaryfoundation.org
Cape Cod Museum of Natural History • Youth Education Programs The mission of the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is to inspire appreciation, understanding and stewardship of our natural environment through discovery and learning. The Museum integrates the three strands of organizational identity as a museum of natural history, a nature education center, and steward of conservation land. The Museum will be updating the Coastal Explorer Science Mobile Van with standards-based classroom curriculum and interactive exhibits. The van will travel to schools and other venues across the region with updatable educational programs designed to teach about local animals and their habitat, the environment and conservation efforts to protect Cape Cod. www.ccmnh.org
Cape Kid Meals • Expanded Weekend Hunger Relief Program
Cape Kid Meals (CKM) has one goal: to fight childhood hunger across Cape Cod. Working with local schools, CKM helps provide meals to children who otherwise go with little or no food on weekends during the school year. The CKM backpack program discreetly provides at-risk elementary students with a bag of food each weekend throughout the school year. This food helps sustain the students’ nutritional needs over the weekends when school breakfasts and lunches are not available. Initially serving 50 children in 2 schools, the program has grown to feeding over 530 children in 24 schools each week and will continue to expand. www.capekidmeals.org
