CREATING YOUR PITCH VIDEO: TIPS FOR SUCCESSTechnique Tips:
• Opt for natural lighting wherever possible. Make sure your setup is such that the light comes from behind the camera.
• If you are filming inside a room with a window, this means the cameraperson needs to stand in front of the window, filming into the
room, and not inside the room, filming out (otherwise you will end up with a silhouette).
• Close any open applications on your phone or filming device. To minimize background noise, avoid windy areas.
• If possible, try to use a wired microphone. The sound will be of better quality, with less echoing than with the built-in mic.
Style Tips:
• Film in landscape, not portrait. This makes for a much better picture.
• Don’t use the zoom feature! If you have too much space in the frame (e.g. the interviewee appears too small) simply move the camera
closer to the subject, rather than zooming in.
• Try to peak your viewers’ interest. Instead of standing next to a banner or filming against a plain background, film in your workspace or in
another dynamic location. Keep it interesting, but don’t overcomplicate things.
• Be aware of continuity. For example, if you are interviewing a leader wearing a suit, don’t allow him/her to take off his/her jacket in the
middle of the interview.
