EARLY STAGE 1 — CHICK US OUT!

On Monday 17 August there was great excite-ment in Kindergarten as our eggs arrived! Each of the Kindergarten classes received 10 eggs and an incubator to help them to hatch.

The different classes set up special areas for their chicks and developed different ways to make sure they were responsible for looking after them.

Over the next few days, Correa had 7 chicks hatch, Bottle Brush had 5 chicks hatch and Hibiscus had 8 chicks hatch. The chicks then spent two weeks helping our Kindergarten students learn about the life cycle of a chicken, about living things, what they need to survive and about how to care for animals. All the Kindergarten students and Mrs Hopkinson, Mrs Evans, Ms Chan and Ms Mitchell are very sad to see the chicks leave. We will miss their little chirps in our classrooms!

Bottle Brush kept a diary of their chicks’ experience:

Hibiscus wrote a story about their chicks and drew some pictures of their new chick friends:

Hibiscus has 8 fluffy and cute yellow chicks! Whenever we feed them, they jump into their food bowl because they are hungry. It is very funny when they eat like this!

And Correa had some lovely time hanging out with their chicks:

EARLY STAGE 1— CHICK US OUT AGAIN!

On the 25/08/2020 Erko secured another debating win, this time

over Crown Street Public School. Crown Street fought nobly (pun

definitely intended) but in the end Erko was the winner. The

topic was ‘Kids should save their money until they are eighteen.'

The Tough Talkers were negative.

Congratulations to Lulu, Eedi, Max, Angus and Niamh for their

high quality debate. The Erko Tough Talkers have now won two

debates in a row, their next challenge is to get another win,

meaning they will have three wins in a row.

Book Week 2020

Due to Covid-19 restrictions things are going to be a little different this

year. Unfortunately no parade but students are invited to dress up on

Friday 23rd October in this years’ theme: Curious Creatures Wild Minds

(or their favourite book character). There will not be a book drive

however, we ask that students bring a gold coin donation on the dress-

up day to contribute to the purchase of library books from Better Dead

Than Dead Newtown.

SASS RECOGNITION WEEK

A Big ’THANK YOU’ to Mr Haynes, Erko Staff and students for acknowledging the SASS team last week.

There were yummy treats, gorgeous flowers, thoughtful messages from students and even staff in the

office answering calls and administering first aid to students.

Messages from the students:

‘Thank you for sending a call home for my lunch.’

‘Thank you for calling parents when we’re sick or haven’t handed in permission slips.’

‘Thank you for always cheering me up when I’m in the office.’

‘Thank you for always helping me when I’m hurt and when I’m late and need a late note. You’re an amazing help!’

Wear It Purple Day On Friday the 28th of August we wore purple to school to show that we support rainbow youth. We spent the day learning about acceptance and tolerance of our diverse community. We talked about how we as a school can support difference and make rainbow youth feel safe, heard and accepted. We wanted to create this safe space in our school so that our peers can feel safe and included at school.. Skyler & Seb (Lemon Myrtle)

HAVE YOUR SAY ABOUT BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE

The Department of Education has commenced a tender process for the provision of Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) at Erskineville Public School.

As part of this tender process, David Hetherington (P&C President) and Kristy Barker (P&C Vice President) will be participating in the selection panel as community representatives.

We want to know what you think.

So that we can accurately represent the community’s views, please let us know what you’d like to see from an Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) provider.

We will be discussing this topic at our P&C meeting next week – details above on how to attend.

If you’re not able to attend the meeting, please send your thoughts to [email protected] by Friday 25 September (end of Term 3) so we can include your feedback in our assessment.

Keep an eye on eNews and kids’ schoolbags for (we hope!) some exciting news about fun way for kids to celebrate the end of Term 3. Details are being confirmed, so stay tuned!
