QUOTEWORTHYQUOTEWORTHYHere is what Sporting Director & Head Coach Bruce Arena and forward Ta-jon Buchanan had to say ahead of Saturday's match vs. Nashville:

Revolution Sporting Director & Head Coach Bruce ArenaOn his scouting report on Nashville SC:Arena: “They’ve been kind of an unknown, because they missed the tour-nament in Orlando in the bubble because of the coronavirus – and the two games at the start of the year, I think everybody forgets. We really only start-ed seeing Nashville in August once everyone returned from Orlando. I know they opened up against Dallas and played two games since Dallas was the other team that was unable to play in the bubble. I know you stated you don’t know a whole lot about them – neither do I. I know some of the players. Dax McCarty, who I had with the [U.S. Men’s] National Team and I’ve followed him for years, is a very good player. I think he’s their captain and plays in the number six position. He’s simply an outstanding player. They’ve had a good defensive record. [Walker] Zimmerman and [Dave] Romney have played well as center backs, their goalkeeper [Joe Willis] is an experienced keeper in the league. The one characteristic I see with this team is, as an expansion team, they’re built around MLS veterans. You see Romney and Zimmerman and Willis and McCarty, [Anibal] Godoy also who partners with McCarty in the midfield. So, that’s kind of the nucleus of the team. Their Designated Player, [Hany] Mukhtar, has been a good player. They’ve had to rotate their number nine position because of injuries. To date, I believe they have four wins, [five] losses, and a couple of draws. They’ve played well at home. I don’t think they’ve been on the road that much. They’ll be challenging. They play hard, they play well defensively, so they’ll be a team that’s going to be difficult to break down.”

---Revolution Forward Tajon BuchananOn when he felt he was finding his stride and place in the rotation: Buchanan: “I think coming back in this year, taking this offseason and really working on my craft has helped a lot. And coming in this year, I had a really good preseason and that kind of made everything a lot easier and the tran-sition a lot easier. From there, just gaining the trust from your coaches and teammates has helped huge and hopefully I can just keep progressing as I said. I still believe I can bring a lot to the table and I still have a lot to show.”

TURNER SETTING BAR FOR MLS GOALKEEPERS IN 2020TURNER SETTING BAR FOR MLS GOALKEEPERS IN 2020

Goalkeeper Matt Turner is off to a prolific start this season, building on a breakout 2019 campaign that culminated in two U.S. Men's National Team call ups. Turner has already matches his single-season best by registering five shutouts in 2020. He has conceded only 11 goals through 13 regular season appearances, helping him rank third in saves percentage and fifth in goals against average:

MLS LEADERS: SAVES PERCENTAGE (MIN. 20 SAVES)Rank Player Club Saves %1. Jimmy Maurer Dallas 84.82. Sean Johnson New York City 83.33. Matt Turner New England 80.84. Andre Blake Philadelphia 80.0

According to American Soccer Analysis, Turner's -4.60 goals minutes ex-pected goals is the second-best mark among MLS goalkeepers, trailing only Sean Johnson's -6.56.

As a unit, the Revolution back line has been among the league's stingiest defenses. The team has yielded just 12 goals in league play, posting the fourth-best goals against per game clip in MLS:

MLS LEADERS: GOALS ALLOWED PER GAMERank Club Games Played GA Per Game1. Columbus 14 0.572. New York City 14 0.713. Philadelphia 14 0.794. New England 14 0.865. Seattle 13 0.92

Last season, Turner's saves percentage of 74.8 ranked third among all MLS goalkeepers, while his winning percentage of 0.605 came in at fifth best. His reclaiming of the starting goalkeeper role coincided with New En-gland's historic mid-season surge, as he started 19 of the team's last 22 matches en route to a postseason berth.

Following in the wake of recent Revolution SuperDraft selections to make major impacts in their rookie seasons - including Brandon Bye, DeJuan Jones, and Tajon Buchanan - Henry Kessler has also fit right in at the pro-fessional level. Kessler has appeared in every game of his debut regular season to date. He leads all 2020 SuperDraft selections in games played, games started, and minutes played. Among all rookies, he is tied for most games played, while he comes in at second in games started and second in minutes played:

Kessler, one of six Revolution players to appear in all 14 regular season games, has quickly proved he is up to the task. The New York City native leads the Revolution in clearances with 54. He showcased his value in the attacking end of the field on Sept. 23 vs. Montreal, when he opened his MLS account with the game's opening goal. He earned his second MLS Team of the Week selection of the season following that performance.

A decorated college player at Virginia, Kessler was named a MAC Her-mann Trophy Semifinalist in 2019 after anchoring a Cavaliers back line that yielded only 0.53 goals per game, second lowest in the country, and posted NCAA bests with 15 shutouts and 21 wins.

Farrell, who became the Revs' fourth player to eclpise the 20,000-minute mark for his MLS career on Sept. 12, has been one of the league's most re-liable and durable players since he joined the Revolution as the first-over-all pIck in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. Through the first 14 league games of 2020, Bou has contributed a team-best five goals with three assists, and a league-high 53 shots. He has scored the game-winning goal in each of the Revolution's last two games, bringing his total to three on the season:

Dating back to his debut on July 17, 2019, Bou's 14 goals from the run of play are tied for fourth most in MLS. He has appeared on the scoresheet with a goal or assist in 17 of his 28 regular season appearances to date, and has showed a flair for the dramatic with five goals in the 85th minute or later.

On Sept. 8, the Revolution re-acquired midfielder Lee Nguyen from Inter Miami CF in exchange for the club's natural fourth-round pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft and up to $50,000 in General Allocation Money. Nguyen has appeared in all four of New England's matches upon his return, first logging 14 minutes as a substitute on Sept. 12 at Philadelphia, before re-cording consecutive starts in each of the team's last three games.

With Carles Gil sidelined, the Revolution are looking to Nguyen to help fill the playmaking void. He has delivered so far, having registered 13 key passes dating back to his debut on Sept. 12 -- tied for third most in MLS:

Nguyen's service from set pieces has been particularly effective. He has recorded five chances created from set play in each of the Revolution's last two games. Only Salt Lake's Albert Rusnak has recorded more key passes from set pieces in a single game this year, and Nguyen is the only player to do so twice in 2020.

The 33-year old returns to Foxborough as one of the most productive players in club history and a member of the Revolution’s All-Time Team. The Texas native is well represented in the Revolution’s record book, as he ranks among the top 10 in virtually every statistical category, includ-ing games played (10th), games started (7th), minutes played (8th), goals (3rd), assists (2nd), shots (3rd), shots on goal (3rd), and penalty kick goals (1st).

Nguyen is one of three Revolution players, along with Steve Ralston and Diego Fagundez, with at least 40 goals and 40 assists. With one more as-sist, he’ll become the first player in club history to reach 50 goals and 50 assists with the team. Fagundez is only five assists shy of the 50-50 mark.

Revolution II, New England's new developmental team competing in its inaugural USL League One campaign, is serving as a valuable proving ground for the club's crop of rising talents. Through Revolution II's first 11 games, 19 players have made their professionald debuts with the team, including 12 current or former Academy products. Five first-team play-ers have earned minutes for Head Coach Clint Peay's side, including four Homegrown Players: Isaac Angking, Nicolas Firmino, Damian Rivera, and Justin Rennicks.

Firmino, 19, has started all 11 games thus far for Revolution II, primarily in a central midfield role, marking his first action at the professional level. The Somerville, Mass. product scored his first professional goal, which was also the first in team history, on Aug. 15 at North Texas SC, the opening strike in a 3-3 draw. He made his pro debut with with Revs II on Aug. 7 vs. Orlando City B, playing 70 minutes and recording a team-high four shots, with one on target. On July 8, the Revolution acquired midfielder Matt Polster following his transfer from Scottish Premiership side Rangers FC. To secure Polster's MLS rights, the Revolution traded $100,000 in 2021 allocation money to Chicago Fire FC. Polster played 90 minutes in his Revs debut on Aug. 20 vs. Philadelphia, and has appeared in all but one of the team's games since due to a red-card suspension. Polster will be forced to miss Satur-day's meeting with Nashville after exiting the Aug. 27 match at D.C. with a concussion.

Polster, 27, returns to MLS after a stint with Rangers FC, where he made 10 total appearances across the Scottish Premiership, Europa League, and Scottish League Cup action. He signed with Rangers in January 2019 following a successful trial and made six appearances in Scotland’s top flight. Before joining Rangers, the United States international made 82 MLS appearances across four seasons with Chicago Fire FC.

Defender Brandon Bye has taken another leap forward in his third MLS season. Bye, the only Revolution player to start all 15 games across all competitions this season, is tied for the third-most duels won across all of MLS. He has also established himself as a formidable threat going for-ward in the attack, as the Western Michigan alum is tied for fourth among MLS defenders with four big chances created (a pass leading to a shot on target).

The Revolution have thrived on the road this season, posting a 4-2-2 mark in regular season games away from Gillette Stadium (including neutral site games during the MLS is Back Tournament). Earlier this season, from July 9 through Sept. 6, New England posted a five-game unbeaten streak away from Gillette Stadium -- including the group stage in Orlando -- which is tied for the longest road undefeated streak in the league this season.

In league play, the Revolution have collected four wins and 14 points in away games, both of which are tied for most in MLS:

By winning at D.C. United on Sunday night, New England reached four away wins for the first time since 2015, when the club won five times outside of Foxborough.

With five away matches still remaining on the season, the team's road form will be critical in determining potential playoff seeding. New England's .625 away winning percentage is fourth best in MLS, and bodes well for the team's bid to host an MLS Cup Playoff game come November.

BRUCE ARENA• Named the Revolution’s sporting director and the club’s eighth head coach on May 14, 2019. • Holds a record five MLS Cup titles (1996, 1997, 2011, 2012, 2014) and has amassed three MLS Supporters’ Shields (1996, 2010, 2011), tied for the most all time. • Currently the winningest active head coach in MLS and one of two coaches to reach 200 regular season MLS wins and 700 career points, holding a 215-127-103 record (724 pts.) in MLS. • Holds MLS Cup Playoffs record with 32 postseason wins and 50 games coached. • Managed the U.S. Men’s National Team during two separate stints (1998-2006, 2016-17), appearing in both the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, and winning three Gold Cup titles. • Built a dynasty over 18 seasons as head coach at the University of Virginia, winning five NCAA Division-1 National Championships and six ACC titles. • Coached the New York Red Bulls from 2006-07, before serving as the LA Galaxy head coach from 2008-16, where he won three MLS Cups in 2011, 2012, and 2014.

Bruce Arena is currently in his second season as Sporting Director and Head Coach of the New England Revo-lution after his appointment to the position on May 14, 2019. The five-time MLS Cup winner is the eighth head coach in club history and oversees all soccer operations for the New England Revolution, including head coach-ing duties, roster management, scouting, and the oversight of Revolution II and the Revolution Academy.

A native of Long Island, N.Y. native, Arena joined the Revolution with one of the most decorated coaching careers in American soccer history that has spanned more than 40 seasons at the collegiate, professional, and interna-

tional levels. Arena’s MLS resume includes a record five MLS Cup titles, three Supporters’ Shields, seven conference championships, one U.S. Open Cup title, and one Concacaf Champions' Cup across 14 seasons. Arena has earned three MLS Coach of the Year selections, tied for the most all-time, first winning the honor in 1997 with D.C. United before being recognized in 2009 and 2011 with the LA Galaxy.

With a regular season career record of 215-127-103 (.598), Arena is the winningest active head coach in MLS, and is one of two coaches in league history to have surpassed 200 regular season wins and 700 career points, along with Sigi Schmid. Arena's regular season winning percentage is also second best in MLS history (min. 100 games coached). He is tied with Schmid for the all-time in MLS Cup Playoff games coached at 50 (32-12-6), while his 32 playoff wins are the most in league history.

Arena made his return to the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs in 2019 by leading one of the most remarkable turnarounds in league history. After a 2-8-2 start had the Revolution sitting in last place in MLS by mid-May, Arena went unbeaten in his first eight games at the helm beginning on June 2, becoming only the fourth head coach to do begin a tenure with such a streak in MLS history. New England finished the season with an 8-3-8 mark and claimed the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference, before falling to Atlanta United FC in Round One of the postseason. That turnaround came despite Arena only making one addition to the roster, bring-ing in Argentine striker Gustavo Bou via a club-record transfer in July.

On the international stage, Arena, 69, coached the U.S. Men’s National Team over two separate stints from 1998-2006 and 2016-17, amassing the most wins in the program’s history with a record of 81-35-32. He led the Stars and Stripes to a Quarterfinal finish in the 2002 FIFA Men’s World Cup – the country's best showing since 1930 – as well an appearance in the 2006 FIFA Men’s World Cup. Arena also guided the U.S. Men's National Team to more Gold Cup titles than any other coach, capturing the continental trophy three times in 2002, 2005, and 2017.

Before his time in the professional ranks, Arena began his head coaching career with one season at the University of Puget Sound (1976), before being named the head coach at the University of Virginia in 1978. During his decorated 18-year tenure at Virginia, he led the Cavaliers to five NCAA Division-1 National Champion-ships, including four in a row from 1991-94, as well as six ACC Men’s Soccer titles (1988, 1991-95). While at Virginia, Arena coached a number of American soccer legends, including Claudio Reyna, John Harkes, and current D.C. United Head Coach Ben Olsen.

In 1996, Arena received an offer to lead the United States Under-23 Men’s National Team in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Shortly after the Olympics, he assumed the head role with D.C. United, where he led the Black-and-Red to a 61-35 record, including the first two MLS Cup titles in 1996 and 1997, and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title in 1996.

Following the 1998 FIFA Men’s World Cup in France, the United States Soccer Federation turned to Arena, who helped the team qualify for the 2002 FIFA Men’s World Cup. In the tournament, Arena’s team recorded an impressive win over powerhouse Portugal and topped Mexico, 2-0, in the Round of 16 en route to the nation’s first appearance in the Quarterfinals in a 72-year span. That same year, Arena led the USMNT to the Concacaf Gold Cup title, one of his three triumphs in the competition.

In 2005, Arena won his second Concacaf Gold Cup ahead of the 2006 FIFA Men’s World Cup in Germany. In the 2006 tournament, the United States earned a 1-1 draw against Italy, but a 2-1 defeat to Ghana sent the USMNT home early.

The next season, Arena took charge of the New York Red Bulls, where he spent the end of the 2006 season and all of the 2007 campaign. In 2008, Arena joined the LA Galaxy for what would be an incredible nine-year tenure that included three MLS Cups in a four-year span and two Supporters’ Shields in 2010 and 2011.

Following his decorated career with the Galaxy, Arena rejoined the U.S. Men’s National Team in November 2016. In his second run as head coach, he lost only two out of 18 games at the helm, though the United States fell short of qualification for the 2018 FIFA Men’s World Cup.

A 2010 National Soccer Hall of Fame inductee, Arena was named the 2015 Werner Fricker Builder Award recipient, earning U.S. Soccer’s highest honor for his more than 40 years of service to the game.

A talented lacrosse player, Arena grew up on Long Island and would go on to attend Nassau Community College, where he played both lacrosse and soccer. Arena then transferred to Cornell University in 1971, where as a goalkeeper, he led his team to the 1972 NCAA College Cup Final Four and earned the tournament’s Most Valuable Defensive Player award. During the 1973 season, Arena contributed as an assistant coach with Cornell, before then accepting a head coaching position at the University of Puget Sound.

Off the field, Arena has authored a number of books and is a member of the NJCAA Lacrosse Hall of Fame, after receiving induction in 2008. He and his wife, Phyllis, live in Boston. Arena’s son, Kenny, was an assistant coach under his father with the LA Galaxy from 2014-16, before joining the staff of Los Angeles FC in 2018, where he currently serves as an assistant coach.

CURT ONALFOCurt Onalfo is in his second season as Technical Director of the New England Revolution after his appointment to the position on June 2, 2019. In his role, Onalfo works closely with Sporting Director Bruce Arena managing the club’s day-to-day soccer operations, including oversight of Revolution II, the Revolution Academy and the scouting department.

The Sao Paulo, Brazil native and Ridgefield, Conn. product joins the Revo-lution following an extensive coaching and playing career in Major League Soccer and with the United States Men's National Team. Onalfo has won MLS Cup as both a player and a coach, including one as a member of D.C. United in 1999, and three as an assistant coach with the LA Galaxy in 2011, 2012, and 2014.

Onalfo owns 12 total years of MLS coaching experience, highlighted by stints as head coach of D.C. United (2010), the then-Kansas City Wizards (2007-09), and the LA Galaxy (2017). While continuing as an assistant with the Galaxy, he also served as the inaugural head coach of USL Champion-ship side LA Galaxy II from 2014-16, where he led the club to a Western Conference title in 2015. When he departed “Los Dos” to take over head coaching duties with the Galaxy first team, his overall record with the de-velopmental side finished at 46-29-20.

On the international level, Onalfo spent six years as an assistant coach for the United States Men's National Team under Bruce Arena. He served as an assistant for the USMNT from 2002-07 – including at the 2002 and 2006 FIFA Men’s World CupTM – and also worked as an assistant with the U.S. Under-23 MNT in 2002. Prior to joining the Revolution, he most re-cently assisted the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team from 2018 through May 2019, including in Poland at the FIFA U-20 Men’s World CupTM, and briefly served as acting head coach of the U-19 side for a training camp in January 2019.

Onalfo, 50, entered the coaching ranks an assistant with D.C. United in 2000 following his retirement. He remained with the Black and Red until September 2002, briefly serving as interim head coach in 2001. After his time in the U.S. Men's National Team setup, Onalfo was appointed head coach of the Kansas City Wizards shortly after the 2006 FIFA Men’s World Cup. He led Kansas City for two-and-a-half seasons, compiling a 27-29-22 record, and helped the club reach the postseason twice, including a West-ern Conference Finals appearance in 2007. In December 2009, Onalfo was named head coach of D.C. United, where he would remain for eight months before departing the club.

After starring for Ridgefield High School, Onalfo played collegiately for Bruce Arena at the University of Virginia from 1987-1990. In four seasons with the Cavaliers, he earned a pair of All-ACC First Team selections and helped the team win the 1988 ACC Championship. He began his profes-sional career with French side La Ciotat in 1991, before featuring for the Connecticut Wolves of the USISL from 1994-95, and Mexican second divi-sion side Tampico Madero in 1995.

Onalfo was selected by the LA Galaxy in the inaugural MLS Draft and would make 13 appearances for the club in 1996, helping it reach the first ever MLS Cup. The defender went on to register 23 appearances across four seasons in MLS, spending additional time with San Jose (1997) and D.C. United (1998-99). He recorded one international cap with the U.S. Men's National Team and featured extensively at the youth level, including the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship, the 1991 Pan American Games, and the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Onalfo’s journey took a detour soon after the 1992 Olympics, when a diag-nosis of stage three Hodgkin’s disease at the age of 24 disrupted his ca-reer and nearly ended his life. After surviving his arduous battle with can-cer, Onalfo resumed his playing career with Connecticut and then Mexican side Tampico FC, before joining the Galaxy for the inaugural MLS season.

In his current role, Roy is focused on scouting and talent identification in players at the collegiate, national, and inter-national levels. He works closely with the Revolution technical staff in player evaluation and has a role in all soccer-related aspects of the or-ganization, including communication with agents and facilitating MLS communication and compliance.

Roy was heavily engaged in the Revolution's scouting operations through-out his tenure as an assistant coach, contributing to the club's domestic and international scouting efforts. As an assistant coach, first under Steve Nicol and then for six seasons on Jay Heaps' staff, he worked pri-marily with the Revs' first-team goalkeepers and also provided addition-al training for the Revolution Academy goalkeepers.

During his time on the Revs' coaching staff, Roy mentored several talent-ed goalkeepers and helped them each achieve success in the profession-al ranks. In addition to coaching former Revs goalkeeper Matt Reis in his pursuit of MLS longevity and success, Roy helped Bobby Shuttleworth establish himself as one of the league’s premier goalkeepers since his debut in 2010. In 2016, Roy’s guidance helped Brad Knighton start a ca-reer-high 13 matches, including six wins.

Roy joined the Revolution after 10 years as the assistant coach/goal-keepers coach for both the men's and women's soccer teams at the Uni-versity of Mobile in Alabama, his alma mater. During his tenure in Mobile, Roy was also a member of the Region III goalkeeping staff. Additionally, he served as the Puerto Rico national team's goalkeepers coach in its preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

In addition to his various coaching positions, Roy spent five years as a player-coach in the United Soccer League (USL) with the Syracuse Salty Dogs (2003) and the Virginia Beach Mariners (2004-07).

Roy played collegiately at the University of Mobile from 1997-99. In his final season in 1999, Roy garnered all-conference, all-region, and All-American honors. He also played five seasons in the Premier Devel-opment League (PDL) with the Jackson Chargers (1998-99), Des Moines Menace (2000), and the Spokane Shadow (2001).

Roy holds a USSF "A" License and Level I and II NSCAA Goalkeeping Li-censes. A native of Petit-Rocher, New Brunswick, Canada, Roy lives south of Boston with his wife and three kids.
