Mary Meyer Mary is an Extension Horticulturist and Professor in the Department of Horticultural Science at the
University of Minnesota. She was the director of the Master Gardener program from 1994-2008. She
manages the Grass Collection at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, teaches grass classes and is
the Director of the Masters in Professional Studies in Horticulture at the University of Minnesota.
Carrie Larson Carrie has a lifelong love for plants that was started as a child, growing up with her five siblings, helping
care for her family’s 100’x100’ garden. Her weekends were spent at Siefert’s Nursery, where she and
her siblings spent time popping fuchsia blossoms while her Mom and Dad were in the root cellar
picking out trees, shrubs or asparagus roots. Carrie later took that passion with her when she
graduated from South Dakota State University in Brookings with a BS in Horticulture and Business. She
has worked in various horticultural jobs over the past 26 years including positions with Bachman’s,
VanBloem Gardens, and VanBourgondien. She currently works with McHutchison, Inc. and is based
out of Wisconsin. Carrie specializes in annuals. Carrie enjoys watching her kids grow up, starting to live
their own lives, and bringing some of her love for horticulture with them. It is Carrie’s wish that all kids
could experience the thrill of watching life come from a little seed, learn the responsibility of caring for
that life and seeing what it can become.
