This has been a remarkable collaborative effort in what has been a challenging year for everyone, not least for our young women. I am so proud of you all. Wenona was ranked 15th in the 2020 HSC Schools Ranking*, and 5th in the Independent sector. We are proudly non- selective, so to have more than 35% of students attain an ATAR greater than 95, and 61% attain an ATAR greater than 90, is an outstanding result. The success of our students is a result of their intellectual spark, their curiosity and their love of learning that extends well beyond the content of the examined curriculum. But it’s also testament to the dedication of their teachers, who have worked tirelessly to adjust their pedagogy this year, navigating the uncharted territory of 2020 with goodwill and energy, teamwork and innovation. This year, Wenona received 40 nominations for HSC showcases across a wide range of subject areas, the highest number in the School’s HSC history. Producing a Body of Work or a Major Project for the HSC is difficult under normal circumstances, but this year’s students were further challenged by the uncertainty and disruption of a global pandemic. Without exception, they responded with grace, ingenuity and good humour. We’re already so proud of these young women, but it is a further delight to acknowledge their tenacity and their talent in achieving these outstanding results. It is also worth noting that nearly 80% of students of the Class of 2020 received early offers to universities across the country. A record number of students have already received offers of cadetships and scholarships, as well as places at internationally acclaimed universities overseas. Success in examinations is important, but a Wenona education is so much more than academic results, and the enthusiasm of the Class of 2020 in developing their talents, skills and interests outside the classroom has been exemplary. As a cohort, they’ve excelled on the sporting field, on the stage and in the art studio. They’ve joined a host of clubs and societies - or they’ve used their leadership skills to start new ones! They’ve engaged in volunteering projects and service-learning opportunities in communities across Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Fiji, always doing what they can to look after each other and those around them. Throughout their time at Wenona, the Class of 2020 have embraced every opportunity to broaden their horizons and discover new experiences that will prove invaluable in shaping their future pathways. Although their final year at Wenona was marked, at times, by disruption, these remarkable young women have responded to every challenge with optimism and cheer. We must also recognise the resilience of their parents, carers and families, who, along with their teachers, have formed a network of care and support around the Class of 2020, which has helped them to flourish at every turn. Today, the Class of 2020 graduate from Wenona equipped with the courage, grace, strength and wisdom to serve and shape their world. On behalf of the Wenona community, I wish them every success in their future endeavours. Kindest regards, Dr Briony Scott, Principal
