The FBC Deacon Board recommends to the congregation that we hire Chris Hester as Campus Pastor over the physical property, building, equipment, systems which support it and many ministry support groups as a licensed Pastor. The FBC Deacon Board recommends to the congregation that we hire Rob Swanson as Senior Worship Pastor to give oversight to all aspects of multi-generational worship which includes Sunday worship services, Master’s Praise Choir and Orchestra, tech ministry, drama ministry, youth choir and children’s choir. Wisdom for our

Church Preservation Planning

The Deacon Board unanimously recommends to the FBC-Tempe congregation:

The FBC-Tempe Deacon Board seeks approval from the FBC-Tempe congregation (by voting ballot), on Sunday, June 21, to approve that the Deacon Board, Finance Committee and Church Staff enter a “due diligence consulting phase” to further explore the many aspects related to Church Preservation Planning “CPP”. This vote will be taken upon returning to our normal Sunday Services and programming.

1. This “due diligence consulting phase” is with Attorney Robert Brown from the Church and Ministry Law Group at Schmitt Schneck Casey Even & Williams Law Firm.

2. A “Yes” vote by the FBC-Tempe congregation gives permission for education, discovery and evaluation of the legal aspects and related recommendations to CPP not the implementation of CPP.

3. After the “due diligence consulting phase” has been concluded if the CPP is acceptable to the Deacon Board the next step is a required second vote, in the future, for the consideration by the FBC-Tempe congregation to legally implement CPP.

4. All expenses related to the discovery and implementation of CPP will be paid for by a private family in the church as a designated donation not through the General Fund budget. No conflict of interest exists related to this designated donation.

If you have any questions or wisdom related to CPP please feel free to contact Pastor Roger or any member of the Deacon Board or Finance Committee.

Deacon Board Members are: Scott Blum, Robin Shakal, James Dorsett, Tom Barnhart, Reisenauer, Jim Farrington, Josiah Bender, Adam Bachman, Aaron Will, David Brinn, Rafael Salgado, Les Kinney and Jimmy Gradis.

Finance Committee Members are: Dale Zobel, Tom Barnhart, Gary Maack, Teri Shakal, Sandra Clavell, Don Halver, Deeann Griebel, Kent Reisenauer and Rassamy Keoduangta

This Church Actively Protects Itself from

Many Forms of Danger, Risk and

Potential Major Liability

• State of the art fire alarm system, smoke detectors, sprinklers, 24-hour online monitoring, fire drills and annual inspections.

• Security alarm on all outside doors linked to Tempe Police Department.

• Forty-five security monitors with digital 24-hour a day on-going recording.

• Safety and security team active every Sunday.

• Nightly security officer.

• Uniformed and armed police officer on campus on Sunday mornings.

• On-going training for staff, church leaders and volunteers on danger, safety and risk assessment. This includes background checks on adults who serve with children.

• Two-story building designed with special earthquake construction.

• Many CPA’s on the Finance Committee monitoring many internal controls.

• Deacon Board oversees all committees and church staff.

• Every three months every donor receives a donation record of individual giving to verify donations.

• A risk attorney is being consulted on a protection plan called the Church Preservation Plan. For more information see Pastor Roger.

• Several months ago the entire physical church campus was inspected for dangers, risks, loss and liabilities by an outside auditor. The evaluation came back with high marks. See Pastor Roger if you would like to see it.

• Did you know that a school in Gilbert has a lawsuit against the school for $116 million because of a rare E.coli complication that led to brain damage and kidney disease of two students? See AZ Republic.USA Today.AZ.central.com, Tuesday, December 17, 2019.

Due to all of the above the Finance Committee and Deacon Board are currently evaluation the benefits of a legal Church Preservation Plan by creating a separate nonprofit government approved 501(C)3 to protect church assets against major lawsuits. More information on this will be presented to the congregation. If the CPP is needed this will require a vote by the entire congregation to approve. See Pastor Roger for more information and share your wisdom and questions.

“Everything Has an Appointed Time”

June 14, 2020 Dr. Roger Ball

[email protected] How should we live? How should Christians respond? Some say America is broken, in decline and in crisis. The justice system is not just. Today we will study nine verses from John 7:1-9. Freedom is never unlimited. Freedom always comes with accountability. To help us understand what we can do and cannot do with our freedom, Jesus teaches us several aspects of freedom. John 7:1 - After these things Jesus was walking in Galilee, for He was unwilling to walk in Judea because the Jews were seeking to kill Him.

• See any violence?

• Walking here means what?

• Where is Galilee?

• What two truths does verse one display?

John 7:2 - Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was near.

• How did this “Feast” start?

• What does it mean?

John 7:3 - Therefore His brothers said to Him, “Leave here and go into Judea, so that Your disciples also may see Your works which You are doing.

• Do these brothers have names? John 7:4 - For no one does anything in secret when he himself seeks to be known publicly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.”

Page 13: 2020 General Fund Givings3.amazonaws.com/production.sermons.io/fbctempe/... · 6/11/2020  · June 16-II hronicles 8, I Kings 9-Proverbs 2526-Proverbs 2729 June 19-Ecclesiastes 1-6

• What does this mean?

John 7:5 - For not even His brothers were believing in Him.

• Does denying truth make you jaded?

John 7:6 - So Jesus *said to them, “My time is not yet here, but your time is always opportune.

John 7:7 - The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it, that its deeds are evil.

John 7:8 - Go up to the feast yourselves; I do not go up to this feast because My time has not yet fully come.”

John 7:9 - Having said these things to them, He stayed in Galilee.
