2020 Ensemble Program Audition

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS ALL INSTRUMENTS (EXCEPT PERCUSSION) 1. Own choice works (2)

Two short, contrasting solo works that best demonstrate your technical abilities and musicianship.

2. Technical work for your instrument One major, minor and chromatic scale of the musician’s choice.

3. Notes of the Circle of 4ths from memory at crotchet = 60

4. Sight reading To a standard appropriate to John Antill Youth Band (approximately AMEB Grades 3-5). An unseen excerpt will be given to applicants in their audition. This excerpt will not be available for preparation prior to the audition.

PERCUSSION ONLY 1. Own choice works (2)

Two short, contrasting solo works that best demonstrate your technical abilities and musicianship. One work should be on mallets and the other rhythmic (e.g. on snare).

2. Technical work a. For Snare: Single stroke drum roll, and paradiddle rudiments b. For Mallets: both major and minor scales up to 1 sharp and 4 flats

3. Notes of the Circle of 4ths from memory at crotchet = 60

4. Sight reading

To a standard appropriate to John Antill Youth Band (approximately AMEB Grades 3-5). An unseen excerpt will be given to applicants in their audition. This excerpt will not be available for preparation prior to the audition.

GENERAL INFORMATION • Your audition will be unaccompanied; • Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your audition time; • Your audition will last approximately 7 to 10 minutes; • Due to time constraints, you may be asked to stop playing before you reach the end of your own choice
