The world is going through an unprecedented change. Healthcare challenges are affecting the way we act, interact and run our businesses. To take these challenges head-on, The National Incuba-tion Center TeamUp and Jazz xlr8 in partnership with the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination (M/o NHSR&C), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Rehman Medical Institute (RMI), Organization of Pakistani Entrepreneurs of North America (Open), Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV), National Incubation Center Karachi (NIC Karachi), TVOne Pakistan and Association of Pakistani Physicians of Northern Europe (APPNE), organized a solution based all-online National Health Hackathon.

This Hackathon gave people the opportunity to collaborate and develop modern solutions to control the spread of communicable diseases like COVID-19.

The purpose of the Hackathon was to find preventive and curative solutions for communicable diseases. Applicants were required to apply in one or more of the following categories:

Access to Authentic Information (Fighting Fake News)

The general public, including people living in rural as well as urban areas are unable to access authentic information at this crucial time. Communicable diseases and their effects can be curbed with authentic information on how it impacts health to control the spread of the disease and prevent panic.Access to Hygiene and Disinfectant Products

Soaps, Hand sanitizers, Disinfectant sprays, with focus on low-cost local mass production.

Creating Hygienic Conditions in Cities and Homes

Low-Cost methods for disinfecting Roads, Homes, Hospitals, Workplaces and Public Places.

Digital Tools for Tracking Pandemic Progression

Making new tools e.g. Data Modeling, dashboards, Algorithms, Apps to help hospitals, poli-cymakers, and the general public better understand and prepare for the COVID19 response.

Solutions for Safe & Comfortable Lifestyle in Self-Quarantine

Solutions to provide safe and comfortable quarantine for people in isolation, including include safe delivery of house-hold items, digital payments, counselling services online, other online services for recreation, health and balance.

Protective Gear for Curbing the Spread of Infectious Diseases

Availability of protective clothing for the public, healthcare and other professionals & devices for curbing the spread of communicable diseases. Dealing with Patient Load/ Testing For COVID-19 Patients

To decrease the patient load at health care facilities via Tele-medicine, Triaging Patients by Symptom App, Home tests and checkups for other non-COVID-19 patients, etc.

Critical Care Management For COVID-19 Patients

Low-Cost local manufacturing of ventilators and any other hardware Devices to Assist People with Breathing Difficulty

Fast Track Contact Tracing Of COVID-19 Patients And Community Clusters/Hot Spots

Identification of the extent to which a positive and suspected COVID-19 patient may have infected the community. (Using Big Data, AI/ML etc.)

Study at home tools for kids, university going students and general public.Supply Chain (Food and Other Daily Use Items)

Broken supply chain caused by just in time supply that leads to problems in fulfilling a huge unprecedented demand due to an outbreak. The general public, including people living in rural as well as urban areas are unable to access food at this crucial time. The dis-ruption of food and other daily use items supply chain in the lock down scenario increases panic and may result in inflation in the society.Access to Water and Sanitation Facilities

Solutions to make water and sanitation accessible for all, including people in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

We received 1205 Applications in a period of 2 weeks, for which applications were open. 123 applications were shortlisted for interviews. 25 participants/group of participants were selected for the final round. These finalists received a four-day virtual mentoring session, from mentors assigned according to the needs identified by the participants. After the final round, top 3 contes-tants were selected as winners of the Hackathon. Some facts about the applications received are presented below

SECTION 2.2: DETAILS OF FINALISTS Details of the finalists and the Ideas presented are provided below:

• Muhammad Zeeshan Karamat- Using Deep Learning to diagnose COVID-19 Patients, by collect-ing audio cough samples on the cloud.

• Urooj Zia-Manufacturing reusable and easy-to-wear FFP3 and N95 masks from locally-pro-duced materials, providing protection against the Novel Coronavirus as well as regular pollut-ants.

• Syed Wajahat- Developing an Ed-tech platform, specifically for Intermediate Students of Sindh and Punjab, which is scalable to cater to the masses

• Dilawar Khan- An AI based Corona Detection Application, detecting disease through coughing pattern. The system also focuses on mass assessment and user tracking to predict next cluster of COVID-19 positive patients

• Dr. Maaz Aslam/ Saad Rehman- Developing and distributing PPE kits for frontline workers across hospitals in the country.

• Muhammad Fahad Mehmood-Developing a Low Cost Non-Invasive Ventilator Solution• Adeel Hassan- A home-delivery system, delivering groceries and essential to customer’s door-

step, eliminating the need to step out during the COVID-19 lockdown• Shoaib Aqmal- An end-to-end Cloud based COVID-19 Rapid response platform, that uses a

Mobile App to identify people who are at high risk of Covid-19 infection and enables doctors to do remote treatment, corona testing and monitoring of COVID19 patients who are in home isolation or quarantine centers.

• Shakir Mahmood- Developing an AI based Automated Corona Diagnosis using X-rays., and Camera based Automated PPE compliance & Facial Thermal Scans

• Abu Abdullah Ashar/Mamoon Babar- Test&Trace (T&T) is a COVID-19 containment solution for Pakistan by Synfox Global to enable safer mobility to citizens, contact detection with potential COVID-19 carriers, access to authentic information, and self-testing for everyone

• Omar Chaudhry- A questionnaire-based platform to detect possible COVID-positive patients• Zain Warsi/Muhammad Aaquib Shahbaz- A portable, low-cost and scalable Electronic Air-Pu-

rifier (AP) suitable for environment control of a typical-sized (25-meter square) confined room in an office or at home, or a car cabin.

• Kinza Naeem-A 24/7 mental health helpline along with referral in place, to address the ev-er-increasing mental health issues that are bound to proliferate threefold amid, and post COVID-19 crisis.

• Muhammad Abbas Khan-Using ICT solutions to reach out to the most vulnerable population, especially women and children

• Saad Ahmed Khan - Applications of ultraviolet light as a disinfectant• Mubashra Abid Khan & Awais Rahat- An end-to-end health tech platform, providing online

• Muhammad Usman-Tracking COVID-19 positive and suspectable patients using GPS technology • Azlaan Mansoor Khan-Using automated RFID surveillance for tracking recovery of COVID-19

positive patients• Usama Humayun- Manufacturing emergency ventilators• Noorin Khan-Čhakou’ is an online platform which assists frontline health workers by assign-

ing their household chores to volunteers so that frontline healthcare workers focus on what matters the most - saving lives.

• Muhammad Moeez Malik-low-cost non-invasive automatic ambulator, working on the princi-ple of PEEP (Positive End Expiratory Pressure), developed for the mechanical ventilation of the patients suffering from COVID-19.

SECTION 2.3: MENTORS

The NIC brought together a pool of 27 domain experts as mentors. These mentors were assigned to the 25 finalists, as per their mentoring needs. The mentoring sessions were spread over a period of four days with each participant receiving two to three mentoring sessions from multiple domain experts.

The initiative taken by the National Incubation Center, to deal with the health challenges faced by the world, does not end here. The NIC will be extending technical and business support to the winners, to enable them in materializing their ideas and reaching their business goals. Win-ners will gain wild card entries into NIC’s 8th Cohort, joining the incubation program in July 2020. NIC will continue to provide mentoring, digital marketing and media support, technology credits, technical tools, and any other possible assistance, to collaboratively enable the innovative busi-nesses in resolving problems being faced by humanity in current times, and times to come.
