Millesima A Family Story
Founder Patrick Bernard established Millesima in 1983 in Bordeaux and developed the company into Europe’s leading fi ne wine mail order merchant thanks to his expertise and reliability. Millesima has also become the fl agship company of a family group created in 1928 by Patrick's grandfather, Lucien Bernard.
In 2007, Fabrice Bernard, Patrick’s son joined the company as Marketing Manager and today is Millesima’s CEO. Utilizing his expertise for online marketing, business development, and his enthusiasm for wine, Fabrice has helped lead Millesima to the forefront of online marketing and wine content in Europe. In 2006 Millesima SA established its American branch, Millesima USA in Manhattan’s Upper East Side and in 2010 Hortense Bernard, daughter of Patrick, took the helm as General Manager. Eagerly sharing her family’s philosophy and passion for Bordeaux, she is committed to providing the US an international selection of world-class wines, as well as unparalleled access to Bordeaux’s legendary icons.
Working hand in hand, the Bernard family's aim is, and has always been, to bring some of the world’s greatest wines directly from the Châteaux to wine lovers around the globe.
For over 35 years, generation after generation, the family has poured all their passion into creating an extraordinary stock of more than 2,500,000 bottles ranging from half bottles to Nebuchadnezzar aging slowly in their mid-19th century cellars.
As a Bordelaise who was raised in a wine family, I’ve always been passionate about wine. My family has been in the wine and spirits industry for four generations and I am proud to carry on that legacy. My father, Patrick Bernard, founded Millesima in 1983, and it quickly became Europe’s leader in fi ne wine sales. In 2006, Millesima USA was created to bring some of the world’s greatest wines directly from the Chateaux to wine lovers in the United States.
At Millesima, we pride ourselves not only on our unrivaled Bordeaux selection, but also on our wonderful range of wines from France and beyond. From iconic producers to hidden gems, our team is excited to share with you some of the fi nest wines in the world. We invite you to come visit us at our Manhattan location or if you are in Bordeaux, we would be delighted to show you around our cellars.
As a luxury retailer, we put great emphasis on the importance of provenance, because we believe you deserve to know the full lifecycle of your wine. We are here to remove any concerns you may have about counterfeits and to guarantee a top-notch service. We thank you for allowing us to be a part of your wine journey and promise the utmost care for your wines in delivering them from our cellar to your doorstep.
Hortense Bernard,General Manager

The city "au bord de l’eau" (French for "along the water") became famous for its wines when exportation began with the opening of the English wine market in 1152. In 1855, at the request of the Emperor Napoleon III, the best wines of the Left Bank of Bordeaux were classified by a panel of judges before being put on display for the World Exposition. This classification was by far the most ambitious ranking ever done for an agricultural product. The classification still stands today and the Chateaux that were classified are still considered among the best in Bordeaux. However, many estates were not included in the 1855 Classification despite the excellent quality of the wines they produced. Today these wines are often identified as Bordeaux, Bordeaux Superieur or even by their designation. Located on the 45th Parallel, Bordeaux is blessed with temperate winters and long, warm summers that are ideal for growing grapes. Additionally, Bordeaux is home to two rivers (the Garonne and Dordogne), which have a special influence on grape growing. These eventually merge to form the Gironde estuary. Vineyards located close to rivers tend to have sufficient warmth even in times of cold weather and humidity. Bordeaux boasts an abundance of soil types and climates, while the rivers also play an important role in the many different wine styles produced in the region. For example, the growth of noble rot - which enables winemakers to make the great sweet wines of Sauternes and Barsac - are a result of the proximity of the rivers.
Red wines from Bordeaux are made from a blend of grape varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and in some instances Malbec. White wines are traditionally made from a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.

1010PremiersCrus ClassésThe Left Bank Growths (Médoc, Graves and Sauternes) were listed in the famous 1855 classifi cation, whereas those of Saint-Emilion on the Right Bank undergo a new classifi cation every decade. Not only do the First Growths symbolize Bordeaux, they are an important part of France’s reputation and are celebrated around the world. The mere mention of their names can bring joy to ardent collectors and wine lovers of all stripes.
The Premiers Crus Classés are available in limited quantities.

2828ImperialLibraryMagnum. Double-Magnum. Jeroboam. Imperial. Balthazar. Nebuchadnezzar. Named after Biblical kings, there are over ten different bottle sizes in popular use around the world today. As they are expensive to produce and often contain the best wine of the vintage, few large format bottles are produced each year. The physical properties of these bottles include a lower ullage (air to wine surface ratio), allowing the wine inside to age more slowly and develop greater complexity over time. Millesima has been collecting large format bottles since our inception. In our ancient cellar in the heart of Bordeaux lies our impressive Imperial Library comprising over 12,000 large format bottles.

4040DryWhite WinesWhile in limited quantities, dry Bordeaux whites are made by many estates across the entire region. The bulk of the production is centered in Entre-Deux-Mers, Pessac-Leognan and Graves. Dominated by Sauvignon Blanc, which provides crisp, herbal and lively notes, the majority of dry whites also include Semillon, which is lower in acid and has more of a honeyed palate and texture. Lively when young, quality Bordeaux whites can age for over 20 years and develop a richer, smoother taste.

42Sauternes& BarsacThe sweet white wines of Sauternes are made roughly 50 kilometers upstream from the city of Bordeaux, between the left bank of the Garonne river and the Landes forest. The vineyards include several villages from the world-famous Sauternes itself to lesser known communes such as Barsac, Bommes, Fargues and Preignac. Made from the classic white Bordeaux grape varieties — Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle — these complex, rich, sweet wines owe their distinctive quality to late ripening and the presence of Botrytis Cinerea, or Noble Rot.

Burgundy, known as Bourgogne in France, is one of the most important and highly sought-after wine regions in the world. Burgundy’s rich viticulture history dates back to at least the 2nd Century, when Cistercian Monks first began to notice the distinct aromatic differences produced by each vineyard - or differences in each terroir. It was precisely these early observations that would serve as the basis for the modern organization of Burgundy vineyards, which include nearly 100 distinct appellations. Unlike Bordeaux, Burgundy classifications are focused on geography, not estate. The most prestigious ranking is Grand Cru, followed by Premier Cru, Villages and Vin de Bourgogne. The majority of Burgundy’s grape crop is placed on large holdings by independent wine merchants, or negociants, who produce wine with these grapes under their own names.
The Côte d’Or, the most famous and expensive of Burgundy’s regions, containing both the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits, produces some of the world’s best Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. The Côte de Beaune, with its famous AOCs of Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, and Corton-Charlemagne, is home to 7 of Burgundy's 8 white Grand Cru vineyards and is responsible for the production of extraordinary Chardonnays. The Côte de Nuits, with 22 out of the region's 23 red Grand Cru vineyards, including the world-renowned Vosne-Romanée, is the heart of Pinot Noir territory. Chablis, despite being in the world’s most famous Chardonnay region, is still underestimated.
Having long embraced the rich history and diversity of Burgundy, Millesima is pleased to present this collection of Burgundy wines, ranging from Grand Crus to Villages, from celebrated negociants to acclaimed small producers.
All Burgundy wines are available in our NYC Store.

The world’s most celebrated sparkling wine, produced only in the Champagne region of France, is defined by its unique combination of subtly nuanced force, balance and fruit. The Romans were responsible for planting the first vine in the cool northeast corner of France around the 5th century. Champagne classically honors the Maison, or Champagne "House", rather than the region. Producers may choose to label their wines as "Grand Cru" or "Premier Cru", if they feel the grapes come from the region’s highest-rated and finest vineyards.
Champagne is produced using the famed "méthode traditionnelle". This method of production, while today used in many other countries to produce sparkling wine, was developed exclusively in the Champagne region and involves second fermentation in the bottle. Vintage Champagne, a bottle designated by year, is only produced during the best of harvests and under ideal conditions. Rare and refined, these Champagnes are the best of the best and are enhanced by extended aging on the lees, which provides greater depth of freshness, and the famed "brioche" notes. Typically a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, Champagne is also produced in special cuvees – or blends – such as Blanc de Noirs, made with only red grapes, and Blanc de Blancs, only with white grapes. In Champagne, terroir is particularly important in the vigneron’s production method. For example, Chardonnay grown in the Cote des Blancs will generally be crisply acidic and intensely chalky. The same grape grown across the river in Vallée de la Marne will produce a wine that is broader in feel and fuller. Enjoying Champagne with food is a highly pleasurable yet commonly overlooked experience. Even though Champagne is often consumed as an aperitif, it pairs beautifully at the table due to its vibrant acidity, low alcohol and unrelenting vitality.
In celebration of Champagne's rich history as the traditional drink of royalty, Millesima is pleased to present this excellent collection of Fine Champagnes. From boutique, "grower style" producers to major players, Millesima’s collection is sure to have the perfect bottle for all of your celebratory moments.
All Champagne wines are available in our NYC Store.

The art of "cultivating the vine" in Italy dates back to before the Etruscan Era, yet the Romans were responsible for the proliferation of vineyards. They spread this tradition across their vast empire through their military occupation of foreign lands. Today Italy is still a major player in the world of fine wine. Over the centuries, the Italian wine industry has faced significant challenges – from world wars to trade barriers, – which has caused even some of the most prestigious wine regions to decline. However, today Italy is once again known for its fabulous, elegant and collectable fine and rare wines.
Italy is one of the largest wine producing countries in the world. With vineyards covering the length and width of the country, Italy boasts a rich variety of styles, distinctive terroirs and indigenous grape varieties. Its appellation system is based on the French structure and can be split into several classifications: DOCG, DOC, and IGP/IGT. Today, European standards have led to new denominations of the DOP and IGP classifications: DOCG and DOC are now DOP wines, while IGP and IGT are now IGP wines.
While wine is made all over Italy’s twenty designated regions, Piedmont and Tuscany are the best-known for producing some of the country’s oldest and most famous wines, including Barolo and Barbaresco from Piedmont and Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Chianti from Tuscany. That being said, really distinctive regional gems and special wines can be found throughout the country, including Pinot Grigio from Alto Adige, Aglianico from Campania, Prosecco from Veneto, and Lambrusco from Emilia Romagna, among many others.
All Italian wines are available in our NYC Store.
