According to LR Owens from Facilities Safety Management magazine:

There are several reasons for workplace slips and falls. Eighty-five percent of compensation falls claims are attributed to slipping on slick floors. However, some slips and falls have more to do with aging as well as other circumstances. The threat of an incident from slipping, or falling at work increases with each decade of life for workers. In other words, the older you get the closer you could be to an incident. There are simple steps that can be taken to prevent workplace slips and falls for workers. One’s balance peaks in their 20s, and unfortunately there is a gradual decline from there. Balance is also dependent on good muscle strength and joint mobility. After age 50, 10 percent of your strength is lost for every year of life.

Safety experts suggest one key is focusing on your balance. Training workers with balance exercising is encouraged. By speeding up your balance recovery you make yourself less susceptible to slips and falls. There are three signals to focus on: vision, vestibular system (a structure in the inner ear) and proprioceptors (a sensory receptor) or the position and movement in front legs.

Increasing your stability and leg muscles by doing small exercises has many advantages in improving your chances of not falling at work. Leg exercises and balance training maximizes your balance and stability. Having stronger leg muscles causes you to become more aware of your feet placement, i.e. how your feet hit the floor, increasing foot contact with the ground, and most important of all tips: Pay Attention. Attention to your steps drives what your body does. When your attention slips, so do you.

Healthy Lifestyle Balance ExercisesAccording to Mayo Clinic:

Balance exercises can help you maintain your balance — and confidence — at any age. Balance exercises are especially important because they can help you prevent falls and maintain your independence.

Specific exercises designed to enhance your balance are beneficial to include in your daily routine and can help to improve your stability. Tai chi is a form of movement training that has been found to improve balance and stability and reduce the incidence of falls.

Anyone with severe balance problems or an orthopedic condition should get a doctor's OK before doing balance exercises.

Celebrate Saint Patrick's Day with a PlanAs stated by the Traffic Safety Marketing:

Each year, St. Patrick’s Day - March 17 - is celebrated with city parades, funny leprechaun hats, and plenty o’ green beer. Unfortunately, it often ends with risky drunk drivers taking to the streets when the parties end. Drunk driving accounts for nearly one-third of vehicle-related fatalities in the United States. This St. Patrick’s Day weekend, remember: Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving. If you plan to go out and enjoy the evening with alcohol, make sure you refrain from driving. Review these facts and share the word about the dangers of drunk driving so you can continue merry-making for all the St. Paddy’s Days to come.

St. Patrick’s Day is one of the deadliest holidays on our nation’s roads. During the 2013-2017 St. Patrick’s Day holiday period (6 p.m. March 16 to 5:59 a.m. March 18), 234 lives were lost due to drunk-driving crashes. In 2017, drunk driving killed more than 10,000 people in our country, and every single one of those deaths was preventable. Do your part this St. Patrick’s Day: Arrange for a sober driver to ensure you get home safely.
