Ephesians 5:1-17; 21 (The Message Bible) – Love and Respect One Another

Leader:Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from

their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him andlearn a life

of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t

love in order to get something from us but to give everythingof himself to us. Love like

that.

People: Don’t allow love to turn into lust, setting off a downhill slide into sexual promiscuity,

filthy practices, or bullying greed. Though some tongues just love the taste of gossip,

those who follow Jesus have better uses for language than that. Don’t talk dirty or

silly. That kind of talk doesn’t fit our style. Thanksgiving is our dialect.

Leader: You can be sure that using people or religion or things just for what you can get out of

them—the usual variations on idolatry—will get you nowhere, and certainly nowhere near

the kingdom of Christ, the kingdom of God.

People:  Don’t let yourselves get taken in by religious smooth talk. God gets furious with people who are full of religious sales talk but want nothing to do with him. Don’t even

hang around people like that.

Leader: You groped your way through that murk once, but no longer. You’re out in the opennow.

The bright light of Christ makes your way plain. So, no more stumblingaround. Get on with

it! The good, the right, the true—these are the actions appropriate for daylight hours. Figure

out what will please Christ, and then do it.

People: Don’t waste your time on useless work, mere busywork, the barren pursuits of darkness. Expose these things for the sham they are. It’s a scandal when people waste their lives on things they must do in the darkness where no one will see. Rip the cover off those frauds and see how attractive they look in the light of Christ.Wake up from your sleep,Climb out of your coffins;Christ will show you the light!

Leader: So, watch your step. Use your head. Make the most of every chance you get. These are desperate times!Don’t live carelessly, unthinkingly. Make sure you understand what the Master wants.

ALL: Out of respect for Christ, be courteously reverent to one another.

THE SOLICITATION

THE PRAYER OF HUMBLE ACCESS

O Merciful Lord, we do not come to Your holy table trusting in our own grace and mercy, but

in the greatness of Your mercy. We are not worthy enough to gather up the crumbs under Your

table. You are the Lord and Your love has met and always will meet every human need. Grant

us humble access to Your love in the sacramental feast of the body and blood of Jesus Christ

and wash away our sinful pride, so that, in mercy we may be drawn near to You and to Him, Who

with the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and forever.

THE CELEBRANT CONSECRATION

Minister: All glory, power and honor to You, Almighty God, Holy Father, Creator of heaven and earth. Who did make us in Your own image. And when we fell into sin, You of Your tender mercy did give Your only begotten Son Jesus Christ, to take our nature upon Him, and to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption: Who made there, by His Own oblation of Himself once offered, a full and perfect sacrifice for the whole world: And instituted and commanded us to continue this perpetual memorial of His precious death until His Coming again.

For in the night in which He was betrayed, He took bread; and when He had given thanks to You, He broke it, and gave it to His disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is My body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way also, after supper, He took the cup; and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them and said, “Drink this, all of you; for this is My blood of the New Covenant, which is poured out for you and many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

Therefore, with this bread and cup we remember the life our Lord offered for us. And, believing the witness of His resurrection, we await His Coming in power to share with us the great and promised feast.

Gracious God, You are holy indeed, the fountain of all holiness. Bless and sanctify these gifts with Your Holy Spirit and bless us to Your service that we may faithfully receive in unity and peace the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ash WednesdayAsh Wednesday services will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Ash Wednesday is the first day of 40 (excluding Sundays), leading up to Easter Sunday – the celebration of Jesus's resurrection from the cross. On Ash Wednesday, we come to church to kneel, to pray, and to ask God’s forgiveness, surrounded by other sinners. Human sin is universal; we all do it, not only Christians. Our church tradition sets aside Ash Wednesday as a particular day to address sin and death. We do this mindful that "God hates nothing God has made and forgives the sins of all who are penitent." We are ALL sinners, no better and no worse than our brothers and sisters.

Respect should be given to other people.

If you were in an auto accident just before you had to be at a once in a lifetime event…

And the accident was clearly the fault of the other person….

And both you and the other driver got out of your cars alive and reasonably well…

And you were really steamed…

You might not let off some of your steam.

Instead you might be respectful.

Treating others with respect in our life is what we are called to do. People who don’t treat other people with respect generally have problems and create problems. All people deserve to be treated with respect. "All people" includes the opposite sex, our children, senior citizens, the sick and disabled, the homeless, the poor, the downtrodden, even the people we do not like…everyone deserves to be treated with respect
