Dietitians New Zealand is the professional association

for registered dietitians, dietetic students and associated nutrition professionals.

With a membership of over 600, we represent the largest

group of food and nutrition professionals in New Zealand

S P O N S O R S H I P P R O S P E C T U S

Dietitians New Zealand (DNZ) works to

build a strong and sustainable profession

that empowers all Kiwis about food and

nutrition, and inspire change to enhance

the health and wellbeing of Aotearoa.

We do this by raising the standard of

dietetic practice, professional leadership,

advocacy and lobbying and raising

awareness of nutrition and its role in

health and wellness.

We are committed to providing

dietitians with the educational

resources and on-going training

opportunities to keep them up to date

with current research, techniques and

standards of care.

DiNZ values the relationships we have

with organisations, such as yourselves,

and are keen to work with you for mutual

benefit.

The Sustainability Partnership

sponsorship offers a unique opportunity

to engage with key professionals and

influencers in the food, nutrition and

health industries, including registered

dietitians, nutritionists, food writers,

food technologists and chefs. This is ideal

if you are looking to share information,

research, and gain valuable feedback,

with some of New Zealand’s most well-

regarded professionals from the foodie

community.

DNZ Sustainability RoadshowWhy do environmentally sustainable diets matter?

Up to 49% of green house gas (GHG)

emissions in Aotearoa are linked to

agriculture and food production, and the

environmental impact of the food we eat

is one of the key changes we can make

to tackle the issue of climate change*.

Climate change is primarily caused

by the accumulation of GHGs in the

atmosphere due to human activities.

New Zealands share of global GHG

emissions is small, but our gross

emissions per person are high.

Food systems have the potential

to nurture human health and support

environmental sustainability; however,

they are currently threatening both.

Providing a growing global population

with healthy diets from sustainable food

systems is an immediate challenge.

DNZ Sustainability Roadshow eventsDNZ believes dietitians should be

able to reconcile the nutritional and

environmental science to give consistent

messages about healthy, sustainable

diets. They should be aware of the

challenges that may result for vulnerable

groups and individuals and be able to

provide advice on sustainable eating as

appropriate.

All of the Sustainability Events (eight

in total) will be on-farm and focus on a

key food group so that at the conclusion

all of the key food groups will have been

represented. With up to 60 attendees at

each event, the events are anticipated

to commence at 9 am and conclude

between 3-4 pm.

The objective of the events is to

provide regional platforms to bring

together professionals working in food,

to discuss sustainability, what it means

and importantly how it applies to food

and nutrition in Aotearoa.

By bringing together a diverse

range of perspectives, and

incorporating learning of local food

production initiatives, we anticipate

providing those who attend current

and accurate information regarding

the sustainability of the food

systems in a New Zealand context.

These will feature a diverse

programme of sessions, which have

been developed to expand their

nutrition expertise and professional

development.

Our education programme will

provide current and pertinent tools,

and knowledge regarding sustainability

of our food system in a New Zealand

context, for dietetic and nutrition

professionals to share with their clients

and consumers.

Our Sustainability Roadshow

presentations offer a unique level

of engagement, interaction, and

meaningful person-to-person contact

between our attendees, our session

presenters, and our sponsors, in an

environment in which it hasn’t been

done before.

Emily KingFor three years, leading scientists

worked on Food in the Anthropocene: the

EAT-Lancet Commission on healthy diets

from sustainable food systems. We are

delighted to have Emily join us on the

Roadshow; she will present key findings

of the report, in particular:

• Why is this report special?

• What does this mean for Aotearoa,

New Zealand?

• What does this mean for food

businesses and consumers?

Emily has more than a decade’s

experience working in and researching

food systems. It’s a journey that’s taken her

from investigating seed practices in Cuba

to running a climate change adaptation

forum focusing on resilient urban food in

Germany, on trains across Canada and a

bike tour of the USA, hunting out ways to

change the food system.

Having trained and practiced as

an environmental lawyer, Emily then

focused on food as a solution to

environmental challenges.

She was named one of Food Tank’s

top 20 global food leaders under 40 for

her work restoring New Zealand’s food

system, has judged the Outstanding

New Zealand Food Producer awards

sustainability category for the past three

years, helped set up The Kitchen Project...

And she is just getting started!

Why become a sponsor? Our sponsors are the anchors of

our continuing educational events

which enable dietitians and nutrition

professionals to enhance their

knowledge and skills. We seek ethical,

appropriate and relevant partnerships,

with companies that have the same goal

as ours: optimising the nutrition and

improving the health of New Zealanders.

Sponsorship of this event provides a

platform unlike any other to showcase

your company and its products and

services to a targeted audience of people

who have an interest in topics and

research related to your business.

Industry involvement is one of the

key elements in the success of DNZ’s

continued education programme

to its members. Your presence and

contributions are key to enhancing

the overall value of the Sustainability

Roadshow by supporting and promoting

New Zealand’s dietitian and nutrition

profession as a partner.

We encourage your consideration

of participating as a valued partner

of our Sustainability Roadshow. With

the collaboration of industry, we can

together work toward our mutually

beneficial goal of a healthier community

and future for all New Zealanders.

Local media will be invited to attend

to help share the message, and we

anticipate they will join us given the

topicality of sustainability and how it

effects our communities.
