What an amazing annual community event - since its inception in 2009, the Belle Property Balmain Fun Run has grown exponentially, not only raising funds for our school, but also supporting others, in true Balmain community spirit! Not only did we support the ‘Run Beyond Project’ for the second year running (literally) with $1000, we also donated another $1000 to Mudgin-Gal (meaning ‘women’s place’)Aboriginal Domestic Violence Centre, based in Redfern.

We are immensely grateful to all our sponsors, in particular, Belle Property, who inject an incredible amount of funds to support this event and make it the success that it is.

Huge thanks must go to the 2019 organising committee, all parents of Balmain Public School, superbly led by Jason Ockerby at the helm, as Chair, undeniably supported by: Doug Talbot (Sponsorship & Director), Pasang Mitchell (Graphic Design), Emma Weir (Social Media), Barnaby Jenkins (Treasurer), Natasha Foster (Volunteers), Matt Wilkinson (Logistics), Neil Lawrie (IT & Planning) and Paul Foster (Sponsorship & unmatchable MC!!!!)

This incredible event is hugely supported by so many volunteers - current and past BPS family members (including the kids), current and past staff, community members and beyond…WOW and THANKS!

A grateful shout out and THANKS goes to Jen Hsieh, Gemma Puplett and Pasang Mitchell, who organised the delectable goodies for the Bakers’ Stall, as well as to all those clever bakers out there and helpers on the day!

A special THANKS go to my staff, who were able to come down on the day and either volunteer, or run, or both…go team! A big shout-out goes to Ms Nancy Ferguson, who was the BPS liaison, drumming up the excitement and hype amongst our school community and keeping our Insta page updated.

Congrats to all of our BPS kids that entered and participated on the day - the winners of the pizza party for the highest percentage of entrants were…drumroll please…KD, 1/2H and 3/4M.

Thanks so much to a wonderful community, who have contributed, either in kind, or financially, or both! It is to each and every one of you that makes such a difference to Balmain Public School and beyond! What a great day!

On behalf of the school, we are truly grateful! THANK YOU!

On the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, a minute’s silence is observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation.

In Australia and other allied countries, including New Zealand, Canada and the United States, 11 November became known as Armistice Day - a day to remember those who died in World War One. The day continues to be commemorated in allied countries.

After World War Two, the Australian Government agreed to the United Kingdom’s proposal that Armistice Day be renamed Remembrance Day, to commemorate those who were killed in both World Wars. Today the loss of Australian lives from all wars and conflicts is commemorated on Remembrance Day.

All our Balmain Public School leaders, along with Ms Whelan and Mrs Lambos, represented the school at the Remembrance Day commemoration at Loyalty Square on Monday 11 November.

We joined other local schools, as well as a number of dignitaries and community members.

We are proud of our students, who were respectful, displaying exemplary behaviour, throughout the entire proceedings.

#bekind "Let's live life with audacious dreams and big hearts” - Steve Jobs

World Kindness Day is celebrated annually on 13 November. On this day, participants attempt to make the world a better place by celebrating and promoting good deeds and pledging acts of kindness, either as individuals or as organisations.

At Balmain Public School, we celebrated World Kindness Week, with activities such as: creating origami buckets and filling them with words/statements of kindness; identifying a random act of kindness that can be done for yourself, for the world, for others, the school and home - written on a flower and posted up around the school…

Kindness should extend beyond a day or a week; kindness should be part of our everyday lives #bekind
