Welcome to the 2019 Annual Report of U-merge!

We are confident that it will give you a good overview on what U-merge achieved last year, always dedicated to its vision and mission and the values that it upholds, thanks to the members passion and inspiration.

U-merge offers a unique platform of fostering knowledge transfer from affluent to less fortunate countries enabling urologists to learn, reach and adhere to worldwide accepted

medical, technical and ethical standards.

In this short annual report, you can take a total view of U-merge activities focused on our priority areas: transferring urological expertise and creating awareness of our association.

We are very proud with our accomplishments up to date, we aim at expanding in the nearest future and remain committed to our responsibility towards the development of a positive collaborative synergy between local urological communities, through education, training, support and fellowship programmes.

ENIUS – European Network of Multidisciplinary Research to Improve the Urinary StentsU-merge is an official scientific partner participating in annual Workshops and Meetings:

Last year a Workshop on “Biomaterials, drug delivery systems and coatings applied to urinary stents” took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, Jan 30- Febr. 2, 2019

Amongst several U-merge members, Dr. Wolfgang Kram and Dr. Noor Buchholz are vice-leaders of working group 3 (validation of experimental models for stent testing) and leader of working group 6 (future approaches to improve urinary stents), respectively.ENIUS is supported by COST: the EU Framework Programme Horizon 2020.

The Tashkent Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education- UzbekistanThe Tashkent Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education (TIPME) and U- merge sealed a long - term academic cooperation, with a mutually signed MoU towards scientific research, educational activities in common interest topics, exchange of academic staff and young scientists and scientific meetings.

Medi -Tech Trust – London – UKU-merge initiated a strong cooperation with Medi -Tech Trust, a registered charity dedicated to the provision of medical equipment to hospitals and medical Centers and to the organization of courses to ensure that qualified medical staff are fully trained to operate the equipment provided. The charity focuses also on advancing the education of the community in healthcare.

Over the past year, there were quite a few calls and invitations to U-merge members to serve as speakers, moderators or as instructors in workshops and scientific meetings organized in different countries.

ARTICLES’ REVIEWING: 95 REVIEWS BY 20 MEMBERS:U-merge has brought together a team of young urologists who have provided peer-reviews of articles submitted to international scientific journals under the supervision of a team of senior academically experienced tutors. They may record these activities as in many countries a review will generate CME (Continued Medical Education) points. They receive annually a certificate of appreciation as a reviewer. This activity can be incorporated into their CV and can be used in periodic performance reviews.
