(I) Newsletter December 2019 2019 Three Minute Thesis Competition This year, the Graduate School sponsored the 3MT competition in mid-November. There was a Preliminary Round on Tuesday Nov 12th and a Final Round on Friday Nov 15th. The competition was open to both Masters and Doctoral students. The academic colleges nominated competitors to the Preliminary Round. A panel of judges (faculty members) narrowed the field to eight competitors in the Final Round. A panel of judges from the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, the LA Board of Regents, and the Baton Rouge Area Foundation. I want to thank everyone who contributed to this event from the Colleges that held their own 3MT competitions to the Graduate School staff who helped organize to the judges for their time and to the students for their excellent presentations. Without a doubt, LSU graduate students are conducting inspirational research. Their ability to craft a three-minute presentation using only one static slide to present their entire thesis or dissertation was astounding. In this newsletter, you will find information about the competitors who won First and Second places and the People’s Choice presentations. I hope you can attend the 2020 LSU 3MT and hear for yourself the breadth and diversity of the research being conducted by our graduate students.
