The successful candidate for this position will rotate through the two areas, CAS and LAS, during the course of the summer, including surgery on call. ELIGIBILITY Experience in the Companion Animal Clinic and/or Emergency Clinic experience would be an asset. Preference will be given to Phase 1 and Phase 2 DVM students, Students outside of the DVM program with suitable experience will be considered.

Protective rabies titre is mandatory.

PERIOD OF WORK April 23, 2019 to September 4, 2019; up to 44 hours per week. Shift will be 1100-2300; including weekends and statutory holidays as necessary. Possible extension into part-time position during school year for suitable applicants. Individuals expected to be available during the 2019/2020 December closure.

REMUNERATION $14.00 per hour with 4% vacation pay included biweekly. On-call paid at $1.00 per hour;

call-in paid per hour at regular rate.

RESPONSIBILITIES Students will be assigned to the Companion Animal Emergency and Critical Care Unit but may be required to work in other areas when necessary (i.e. ICU, Wards, Specialty Services). ECC duties include assisting the Emergency service with incoming patients, dealing with clients, taking history, restraint for procedures, set up kennels, place lab orders, place requisitions, assist with catheter placements, TPRs, treatments, medications, walking, feeding, and cleaning patients and maintaining patient medical records. Inventory stocking, cleaning, and maintaining hospital equipment as required.

Successful candidates will exhibit a willingness to be cross-trained in other areas of the Health Sciences Centre. Our summer students may be assigned to work in a variety of service areas based on operational requirements.
