CabsStick out your hand! A cab will cost approximately $15 to ride from
the New York Hilton Midtown to the Swim Start. Ask your driver to
take you to 96th St. & West End Avenue, then walk to the Swim Start.
To get to Transition with your athlete, ask your driver to go to 79th
St. & Riverside Drive. Transition is for athletes only; however, you can
wait outside for them and then walk the mile to Swim Start together.
Public TransportationGet a MetroCard and see New York like a local. You can get just
about anywhere in NYC via bus or subway, and you’re sure to go
home with much better stories! Need help knowing which trains or
buses to take? Try using tripplanner.mta.info.
Race Morning Athlete ShuttlesComplimentary shuttles will be available to take athletes from the
New York Hilton Midtown on the SW corner of 54th St. and 6th
Ave. to either Transition between 3:45 AM – 5:15 AM or Swim Start
between 5:15 AM – 7:30 AM. Shuttles will run continuously between
the locations listed. Priority is given to athletes; however, if seats are
available, spectators may also ride.
Post-Race Transition ShuttlesShuttles will be available to take athletes and spectators from the
finish area back to transition in Riverside Park from 10:00 AM to
2:00 PM. Shuttles will run on a constant loop, picking up athletes
on Central Park West between 70th and 71st Streets and dropping
off on West End and 71st Street. Follow the signs on race day to the
shuttle area.
Spectating Tips
The great thing about New York is that no matter where you go,
you’re bound to see something good! If you want that to include your
special, one-of-a-kind athlete, here are our best recommendations:
Pre Race• Plan to visit the Expo with your athlete. Be sure to buy them
(or yourself) some apparel from eXOsports, official merchandise
provider of the 2019 Verizon New York City Triathlon.
• Do you need to spend every possible second together before
the race? No problem. Go with them when they drop-off their
bike at Transition on Saturday from 2:00 PM – 9:00 PM, then
grab a drink at the Boat Basin Café while they rack their bike.
Race DayWhat you see depends entirely on how early you want to get up.
If you want to see the swim, you’re going to need two alarms. If
you only care about the finish, you can sleep in. Either way, save
your stilettos for the after party because you’re going to need some
comfortable walking shoes. Pack a picnic. There are no bodegas,
and the hot dog vendors don’t set up in the dark. The next few pages
will describe the best places to watch the swim, bike and run. If you
want to watch all three, here are our recommendations:
• Show up with your athlete at 4:00 AM to Transition. You can’t
go into Transition with them, but you’ll be able to wait for them
while they check on their stuff and then walk with them the
one mile to swim start. They’ll want someone to tell them how
amazing they are along the way, so be prepared.
• Once your swimmer is in the water, you can walk the sea wall
right alongside them, all the way down to swim exit. Once you
get to swim exit, you’ll need to turn around, walk north for ¼
of a mile, and then exit Riverside Park through the 83rd Street
Tunnel. Once you get to the upper level of Riverside Park, walk
south (right) to 79th Street. If you’re quick, you can see your
athlete biking out of Riverside Park. If you’re patient, you can
even stick around the 79th Street area to see them come back
from their bike ride.
• Want to watch the run? Walk down to 72nd Street & Riverside
Drive so you can cheer your athlete on as they race out of
Riverside Park on their way to Central Park. Once they get to
Central Park, let them do the running and head straight to the
finish line and enjoy the Finish Festival while you wait. Enjoy live
entertainment, awesome vendors and more! Once they cross
the finish line, wait for them in front of the band shell in the
Family Reunion area.
Transportation
2019 SPECTATOR GUIDE 5
Post RaceAfter the race, athletes will need to get their bike out of transition.
If you plan to walk with them, you can end your day just like you
started it… telling them how amazing they are.
SecurityCheer, holler, scream and high-five everyone. While you’re out
there, thank the NYPD for making the race safe! Please follow all
volunteer, staff and official instructions. If a staff member says an
area is restricted, then it is restricted. No exceptions.
Race AppDownload the Athlinks mobile app to check race schedules,
course information, live tracking updates, results and much more.

complete, select 2019 New York City Triathlon from the event list.
Live Athlete UpdatesLive athlete updates can be accessed throughout race day
directly from the Athlinks App, from the Results link online at
nyctri.com, or at the Athlinks Results tent at the Finish Festival.
The Swim
The race starts on Manhattan’s West Side at 99th Street and the
Hudson River. The 1500 meter-long swim is viewable along the
seawall from 99th Street to the 81st Street swim exit.
Getting to the Swim StartFrom 79th Street Transition Area:
• Walk one mile north with your athlete from Transition any
time from 4:00 AM – 5:15 AM (Transition Yellow closes at
5:15 AM and Transition Red closes at 5:40 AM).
• Please note, only athletes will be allowed in Transition.
From the Upper West Side:
• Enter at 97th Street and Riverside Drive.
• Enter at 96th Street, just west of West End Avenue.
IMPORTANT NOTE: There is no spectating allowed south of the
Swim Exit. NYPD requires the Verizon New York City Triathlon to
treat the Transition Area as a secured zone for athletes only.

10 2019 SPECTATOR GUIDE
The Bike
The 40 kilometer Bike Course is set on the northbound side of the
West Side Highway, from 60th Street in Manhattan to the Mosholu
Parkway in the Bronx.
Those spectating the Swim Course can easily see their athletes riding
north along the West Side Highway, primarily from these two spots:
Bike CourseViewing NearSwim Start
Bike CourseViewing Near
Swim Exit
No Spectating on the West Side HighwayThe Southbound side of the West Side Highway is OPEN to traffic
on race day so you will be unable to watch your athlete on the West
Side Highway.
The Run
The Run Course features the first course change in event history! It
begins with a steep run out of Riverside Park, up to the 72nd Street
Tunnel and eventually onto the street. Near Mile 1, athletes enter
Central Park and run in a counterclockwise direction (now with the
flow of Central Park pedestrian/bike traffic). Runners proceed north
to the 102nd Street Crossing before heading south on West Drive
and into the Finish Line on Dead Road in Central Park.
When it comes to spectating the Run Course, it’s a free-for-all. We
recommend watching on West 72nd Street or anywhere along the
Run Course in Central Park! Make sure to grab a hot dog along the
way.
Finish Line PolicyUnder the guise of safety and fairness, families and spectators
must remain off the race course, and may not enter the Transition
area or the Finish Line chute at any time. Please be respectful of all
participants. Event Staff may disqualify any athlete who brings family
or friends into Transition or through the Finish Chute.
Spectators should meet their athletes at the Family Reunion area,
located at the band shell in Central Park.
Finish Festival
The Finish AreaThe Finish Line is at “Center Road” in Central Park. Come line the
Finish Chute and cheer your athlete on as they cross the Finish Line!
Then go meet them at the designated Family Reunion Area by the
Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park.
Before you leave, guide your cramping, limping, and satisfied loved
one(s) to the Finish Festival for live music, awards, and giveaways
from our sponsors! Celebrate the big finish at the NYC Triathlon
Finish Festival, bustling with sponsors and vendors sampling their
products, including:
2019 SPECTATOR GUIDE 11
• Free massages provided by SISTEM at the Finish Festival.
• Live music by B.O.D.
• Contests, raffles, and lots of cool stuff!
Photography & Social MediaFinisherPix will provide race photography before, during and after
the race. Please make sure your race numbers (body marking, bike
and bib numbers) are visible at all times so you can be identified.
Photos will be posted to the event website within 24 hours of the
event.
Awards Ceremonies All finishers will receive a Finisher’s Medal. Top performing individuals
and relay teams will earn additional awards distributed at two
separate Award Ceremonies, hosted at the Awards Stage within the
Finish Festival:
11:00 AM Professional & Championship Race Awards
12:00 PM Age Group, Paratriathlete and Specialty Awards
Children / PetsParents, please supervise your children at all times. The race site and
course are busy and potentially dangerous areas. We recommend to
leave pets at home. If there are any pets on site, we will ask to make
sure they are leashed at all times.
Lost & FoundLost items should be turned in or claimed at the Results Tent within
the Finish Festival. Unclaimed items will be relocated to the Life Time
office following the event and donated after 30 days to a local charity.
