We’re approaching the close of another

year of enjoying friends and activities as

members of the CCSC. Our pleasure in

participating in this club comes, of course,

from the members, who make the club

what it is. We have great friendships

among club members and we have oh so

willing to jump in and help with activities

members. Absent these things, club mem-

bership could not be so pleasing. In the

course of this calendar year, we’ve had fun

cruises, thanks to our cruise fleet captain

and individual cruise leaders, enjoyable luncheons, thanks to our day fleet captain,

and meetings with informative speakers thanks to Fred Hecklau. All our happen-

ings continue to be posted on our top notch web site, thanks to Mario Rusu. In

total, of course, your club has been managed by a dedicated set of officer and

board members.

We’ve also functioned as a compassionate club sharing our concerns for those

who have had health problems or who have left our worldly company behind,

with club wishes conveyed by our long-serving Sunshine Lady Sandy Mil-

ler. Sadly, we’ve recently lost two long-standing members of our club, Ginny

Holland and Cecil Gaylor and lost the presence of the Keelers who no longer are

able to make the journey here from Up North. While missing all who are no long-

er in the club with us, we treasure those who still are and our interactions with

them as we march forward.

The pages that follow are chock full of information on recent events

and on scheduled activities as the upcoming weeks roll by. Enjoy!

Also included is a membership renewal form with a board approved

dues increase. This will be voted upon by the membership at our No-

vember 20th meeting. Per discussion at our recent board meeting, the

board views this limited increase as leaving our dues at a very reasona-

ble level and allowing for our continued enjoyment of club activities at

the Cape Coral Yacht Club. For reference, CMCS is now charging dues

in the $150 range.

Martha and I wish you all wonderful experiences in the upcoming holi-

days and a prosperous and healthy New Year.

Hello everyone, welcome to your holiday activity update and welcome back to all our snowbird friends!

We had a wonderful Salute to the Commodore at Rum Runners where 36 members thanked JC for his Herculean job of leading the club - thank you JC! Prior to the luncheon, many members partici-pated in the boat parade. I understand that JC was dressed to impress as parade-goers saluted him aboard his sailboat, anchored in Glover Bight.

Our November meeting is the annual Fall Feast with three members (Ruth, Marion & Ron) each preparing a delicious turkey. What everyone is asked to bring is a favorite side dish and or a des-sert to share. Of course, bring your own beverage of choice.

And our grand finale of the year, the Change of Watch Ceremony and Party is set for December 14th at 6pm. The celebration will follow the successful model from 2018. Just like last year, the food will be a collection of heavy hors d’oeurves, provided by the club. Come as you wish, BYOB, and plan to celebrate our club and the many fine folks that will be leading us in 2020. This will be a free event for members (non member guests are asked to donate $10)!

If you’d like to help prep/pickup food, setup or clean up, we need lots of help. If you plan on at-tending please text or call me (321.287.5076) before 12-9. Remember, this is a casual fun event you do not want to miss!

Cruising News with Captain Will

Captains Comments: November 1-2 “Salute to the Commodore” Martha and JC Poindexter hosted a lengthy happy hour with delicious treats offered up by all, aboard their sailboat on Friday, November 1st, while anchored at Glover Bight. The raft-up was held the evening prior to the “Salute to the Commodore” and was the continuance of annual tra-dition. The following morning, the anchored boats and others that gathered, true to tradition, passed in review, saluting Commodore Poindexter who was standing on his deck, returning their salute. At the conclusion of the review, all made their way to Rum Runners and enjoyed lunch and further celebration with additional Club members and friends attending. The over-night raft-up was attended by O’DAY TRIPPIN’, MAGPYE, SMALL FORTUNE, and CAPRICORN. COM-PASS ROSE joined the group Saturday morning for the review. Enjoy the pictures on page 8.

December 10-11-12 “South Seas Island Resort - Captiva Island Captains: Henry and Marion Borneman To repeat last month’s comment on our last planned Cruise of this year, Henry Borneman is working to make the South Seas, December 10th, 11th, and 12th, cruise happen. Henry is a veter-an at organizing this cruise and I'm sure, as it has been in the past, will be a great success. I expect that Henry will also have an update for us at the next meeting.

November 5-6-7 “Boca Grande Cruise” Captains: Luc and Betty Carriere The best laid plans can occasionally be interrupted when least expected. Such was the case with Luc and Betty’s excel-lently planning and well thought out Cruise to Boca Grande. The persistent record breaking heat and humidity, coupled with the progression of the Red Tide bloom into Pine Island Sound and the Charlotte Harbor area, contributed to the vast majority of signed up participants voting to cancel the Cruise. Reflecting the very best in not being deterred, most of the cruise group (joined by other Club members), went up river, leaving the Red Tide behind, to enjoy the hospitality of the Boat House restaurant and Sweetwater Marina, at the eastern edge of Fort Myers.

Cruising Fleet Captain’s P.S. This is my last scheduled contribution to the Mainsheet as this year’s Cruising Fleet Captain. I’d like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has helped to make this cruising year a success. As always, the leaders of all cruises who sign up and run the events are to be com-mended. Equally important are all of the people who quietly support those leaders in the back-ground. An extra special thanks goes out to the people (and we all know who they are) who endlessly contribute wonderful treats to the many social hours and pot-luck dinners that we are so lucky to enjoy. I can’t thank you all enough. Last, but by far, not least, I want to wish our incoming 2020 Cruise Fleet Captain, Fred Hecklau, the best of luck and I’m sure that all of you will join me in supporting Fred wherever possible. We are very lucky to have our good friends Fred (and Dotty) on board. My parting advice for continued fun cruising: Keep the water on the outside of your boat. Don’t hit anybody. Ahoy mates…it’s me again! I have some exciting venues planned this coming year for you, so stay tuned!

But first I want to report on the November Brunch at The Omelet Shop, one of

Cape Coral’s best kept secrets for awesome culinary delights! Made to order ome-lets, seasonal favorites such as pumpkin bread French toast, cinnamon bun French toast, lobster Benny (lobster eggs benedict), blueberry crunch pancakes (beware of exploding blueberries capable of attacking you and others), delicious salads and

sandwiches….brunch was pure bliss and thoroughly enjoyed by all!! Service was ex-ceptional, food was hot and yummy, coffee was hot and staff made sure your cup

was always full! I would highly recommend this restaurant, open from 7am to 2pm, for an exceptional eating experience!

The December Holiday Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, December 18th at

McGregor Café in Fort Myers. Lunch offers delicious salads, over a dozen sandwiches, soups, all made in house. You are sure to find multiple favorites. This luncheon will have an unusual twist…I’m asking everyone to wear their

“holiday favorite”…. ties, hats, suspenders, shirts, blouses, sweaters…surprise me! There will be a prize for the “best dressed!!”
