IB Middle Years Program
Parent Info SessionSeptember 2019
What is MYP?
• What is often referred to as the “IB Program” at Robinson is the IB Diploma Program — a program primarily for 11th and 12th graders in which some students can choose to complete the IB Diploma.
• Both the Diploma Program (DP) and the Middle Years Program (MYP) are IB programs.
Who participates in MYP?
• MYP is for all students at Robinson in grades 7-10• MYP is not a curriculum, it’s a framework• MYP = not what we teach, it’s how we teach

What is the FCPS IB MYP Certificate?
In the 10th grade, students can chose to apply for the FCPS IB MYP certificate. To be eligible for the certificate, a student must:
1. Complete at least two world language courses in 9th and 10th grade, including English development courses for English Learners
2. Perform successfully on MYP rubrics given in all MYP subjects during 10th grade (completed as part of the curriculum in the six required subjects: English, World Language, Social Studies, Science, Math and PE)
What is the FCPS IB MYP Certificate?
Continued:
3. Complete a minimum of three service-learning reflections during 10th grade (logged using x2VOL)
4. Successfully complete a Personal Project on time, including all three components: process journal, product, and report (due date: March 2020)
What is the Personal Project?
• Direct their own learning, to pursue interests that may lie outside the school’s formal curriculum.
• Work one-to-one with their faculty supervisor and external subject matter experts, developing important collaboration skills for interacting as colleagues with adults.
• Undertake a challenging, yet realistic goal, to learn to be resilient, manage failure, and evaluate their own efforts.
What will students be doing?

process, not product
There is an expectation of a product or an “outcome,” but that is not the focus. They will be “assessed,” but that isn’t what they should be concerned with.
