Toast to the Trail - The Baldwin County Trailblazers (BCT) celebrated the late founder Teko Wiseman and the 21st birthday of the initial groundbreaking of the Eastern Shore Trail with a Toast to the Trail party in September. Many fond memories were shared and fresh faces were welcomed in the con- vivial setting of the Fairhope Brewery. Walking School Bus (WSB) – Charlene Lee succeeded in taking the Walking School Bus to another Fairhope school! Fairhope Intermediate School students can now safely and proudly walk to school via their new daily Walking School Bus pilot program. Fairhope Elementary School continues in its 7th year with 110 young daily “riders.” Countywide Master Bike/Ped Plan – The BCT successfully petitioned the Bald- win County Commission to develop a county wide master bike/ped plan. City and county officials are working together to map major arteries in the county for expansion when road resurfacing occurs. New Kiosk Maps – Addressing requests from trail users, the BCT and Thompson Engineering are developing site specific maps for each of the eight kiosks along the East- ern Shore Trail. The 8 different maps are being designed with much needed information for bike/ped users such as local road names, park locations and bike shops. On-Going – The BCT continue to provide free Bike Valet service at the Fairhope Arts & Crafts Festival, Earth Day and the Alabama Coastal BirdFest; monitor the Eastern Shore Trail for needed repairs; purchase bike racks for local popular stops; and honor local businesses with “Bike Friendly” status stickers.
