GRIP’s Annual Immigration Summit is an opportunity to learn more about the issues facing
many families in our local community. This year’s program will include:
Panel discussions on - Immigration Legislation; Healthcare Challenges; Workforce Development
Short documentary- World renowned artist Michelle Angela Ortiz is screening a short documentary
as part of "Familias Separadas" a project developed from interviews with families detained at the
Berks Family Residential Center; panel discussion with local advocates to follow
Discussion Groups focused around:
o Workforce Development – untapped resources; changing demographics; fair labor laws
o Healthcare Challenges – what care is available; where are the gaps; public charge concerns
o Waking Dreams – video resource and tool for classroom or discussion groups

Michelle Angela Ortiz has
designed and created over 50 large-scale public art works around the world! The short documentary to be screened at the Summit is part of her Familias Separadas project.
Ortiz is a 2018 Pew Fellow, a Kennedy Center Citizen Artist National Fellow, and a Santa Fe Art Institute Equal Justice Resident Artist. In 2016, she received the Americans for the Arts' Public Art Year in Review Award which honors outstanding public art projects in the nation.
