Painting of the Month This was started by a previous member Bea Padgett who is no longer with us. She was always very enthusiastic and introduced new ideas to get members painting. We have kept up the Painting of the Month in memory of her. It is very easy and I would encourage members to just have a go. It might be something you have never painted before. All the more reason to try it. Don't think about winning just TRYING. It can be done in any medium – oil, paste. w/Cl, pencil etc. on a square 20cm x 20cm. Bring it along to the members meetings (1st Monday of every month 1pm)where it is put on the desk and members present vote for their favourite. The winning paintings are kept until the end of the year. At the Xmas lunch the winners for each month of the year are displayed and voted on again. The winner then receives a $50 prize. Subject for March is .Hats” PAT BARRY is now co-ordinating Painting of the Month

Member Update Report Monday 4th February at the Bistro 2428 at Club Forster

A very pleasant member Update was held at Club Forster last Monday.

There were 23 members present and apologies from Barb Lyttle, Barb Kerfoot, Helen Thompson, Merlene Saltau (who was unwell - best

wishes Merlene), Ross Mackaway ( who had his knee replaced - best wishes Ross), Pat Mackaway (tending to said knee and attached husband), Marina Bishop, Gabby Toner, Margaret Fox, Peter Everingham and Carla Townsend.

Bettina gave the President’s Address to the meeting. In the absence of both treasurer’s she said that we had a bank balance of $10,762.88. The grant money has been moved to a separate account to avoid confusion so this money is actually the GLAS money.

The renovations commenced today (4/2/19) and are expected to finish 15th March.

Artist of Wallambah have joined our gallery and have had a successful exhibition A big thanks to Kate Landsbury for organising this and also the coverage by Focus Magazine and the Times.

Our current raffle is the Wayne Barry painting and will continue through to the Open Exhibition.

Collaboration with “Tell Me A Story” continues. Members who are interested in being involved in assessing the illustrations should contact Bettina.

The next Library Exhibition will be form 11th March to 8th April. Please drop off works between 1-2pm on 11th April and pick them up by 8th April. There is a limit of 2 per person. Be aware that if you exhibit a work in the library, it will NOT be eligible for the Open Exhibition as the rules state that all works must not be previously exhibited.

Thank you for your sponsorship Ray White Forster Tuncurry

A card received from Beryl Moriarty thanking members for their sympathy at the loss of her husband was circulated.

THANK YOU.. Bettina wanted to thank the people who helped pack up the gallery and also Danny Dunne who has done a wonderful job on the website.

Ingrid handed around a Policies and Procedures sheet for members to take and fill in. I would really appreciate if people could fill them in if they know anything about anything we do at the gallery. I am trying to put together a compendium of procedures for the gallery so that the knowledge of existing members is not lost in the future.

Everyone’s help will be appreciated. When the gallery is back together, I will leave some spare forms at the desk. You might consider writing one or two while you are on duty at the gallery. Thanks.

Fred Bullen’s Talk at our Member Update this week. Thanks Fred for explaining how you prepare paintings for having and showing us how you do it. Thanks also for explaining what will work and what is not so successful.

Fred pointed out the products which are preferred in our gallery.

Page 8: 2019 Great Lakes 37th - GLAS

D rings are preferable to triangles as they don’t open up and let the painting fall as time goes by. The smaller D rings pictures are available at our sponsor, memory Lane Framing to buy in packets. If you get your artwork prepared for having by them, please ask them to use the D rings (not the triangles) and to screw them in a quarter of the way from the top.

Alternatively, Foodworks at Hallidays Point has a triangle hanger which is all one piece and won’t come apart.

Please use venetian blind cord ( available from Bunnings) pulled as tight as possible from ring to ring as the cord. Other types of wire can corrode and distort. Fred uses a round turn and two half hitches and then secures the knot with a dab of PVC glue.

To hang them on the wall at home, Fred uses a bear claw or Simplicity hanger so that there is only one point of contact with the Venetian cord. This helps to avoid the cord resting on a part of the wall nail which is not supportive.

Finally, Fred sticks furniture floor savers to the back of the painting so that it wont mark the gallery ( or customer) walls.

Thanks Pam Dunne for ably displaying how these hangers work and to Fred Bullen for his great talk/workshop. I am so much wiser. Thanks.

News Life Drawing As you already know there will be no Life Drawing In February. Maybe we can start in the second half of March. Usual time is 2nd & 4th Thursday of the Month 2pm to 4pm I am trying to organise some Life Drawing tuition with James who usually draws with us. He has an interesting approach to life Drawing. Because he has a different approach his lessons would be good for The beginners to the more experienced. We would need to have a decent number of artists interested to make it worth his while. If you are interested in some tuition please contact me. Pam Dunne - 0412 736 797 or [email protected]
