Day 8: Thur, Feb 07 – OTARU – NOBORIBETSU. Take a stroll through the scenic OTARU CANAL shopping district. Enjoy spectacular views from the Tenguyama Ropeway before traveling to Lake Shikotsu for the the LAKE SHIKOTSU ICE FESTIVAL. A fantastic world of ice featuring various snow and ice sculptures created from the water of the nearby lake. After checking into your hotel at Noboribetsu, enjoy a soak in the relaxing hot springs onsen before Indulging in the “ALL YOU CAN EAT CRAB” Dinner Buffet. HOTEL MAHOROBA (1 Night) (B, D)

Day 9: Fri, Feb 08 – NOBORIBETSU – SAPPORO. Visit JIGOKUDANI or “Hell Valley,” a spectacular, appropriately named valley just above the town, which displays hot steam vents, sulfurous streams and other volcanic activity. It is a main source of Noboribetsu’s hot spring waters. Next we try our hand at indigo dye handkerchief making. For lunch, pick out “LIVE” crabs* from the tanks! Your choice of King Crab, Hairy Crab and Hanasaki Crab! While you enjoy a special Salmon Teppanyaki, the kitchen will expertly prepare the crabs for everyone to share! A gourmet’s delight! Then enjoy the SAPPORO SNOW FESTIVAL AT ODORI PARK and in the SUSUKINO AREA. The Sapporo Snow Festival was started in 1950, when high school students built a few snow statues and it has since developed into a WORLD CLASS EVENT attracting more than two million visitors. Day 10: Sat. Feb 09 – SAPPORO. Enjoy your morning at leisure to explore on your own. Perhaps ride the free shuttle to KITA-NO GURUME, a seafood market and restaurant, featured on DOKO GA TV. Visit HOKKAIDO SHRINE, one of the most popular Japanese temples in Hokkaido. Originally called the Sapporo Shrine when the Meiji Emperor decided to enshrine three Shinto deities in 1869. In 1964, when the Meiji Emperor's soul was enshrined there as well, the name was changed to Hokkaido Shrine. Next visit SAPPORO BEER BREWERY. Opened in 1987 in a former brewery from the Meiji Period, the brewery museum chronicles the rich history of SAPPORO BEER, which has been brewed in Sapporo since 1877. Enjoy some refreshing BEER TASTING as well. Then check out the TANUKI KOJI STREET, a ten block long outdoor shopping arcade located in the Odori Area of Sapporo. After an afternoon of chcking out the SAPPORO SNOW FESTIVAL, feast at your Farewell Dinner. (B, D)

Day 11: Sun, Feb 10 – SAPPORO – CHITOSE – HONOLULU. Arrive early at the Chitose Airport and begin exploring the shopping mall located within the Domestic Terminal. Consisting of 4 floors of restaurants, shops and activities, there’s something for everyone. Those with a sweet tooth will enjoy the Sweets Zone, where you can enjoy Hokkaido sweets in a spacious and relaxing setting, and the Royce Chocolate World (factory, museum, shop and bakery) and Le Tao Chocolatier. And there are more than two dozen shops at the airport that specialize in various fresh, frozen or dried seafood that can be eaten there or packed for you to bring home. Day 1: Thu, Jan 31 – HONOLULU. Depart Honolulu via All Nippon Airways flt #183 at 11:15 am.

Day 2: Fri, Feb 01 – CHITOSE, HOKKAIDO, JAPAN. Arrive Chitose International Airport via Narita, Tokyo at 7:40 pm. After entry formalities, walk to your hotel located within the airport. A bento dinner and bottle water will be provided. AIR TERMINAL HOTEL (1 Night) (D)

Day 3: Sat, Feb 02 – CHITOSE – TOKACHIGAWA. After a sumptuous breakfast buffet, first stop this morning will be at a nearby store to purchase snow/ice cleats. On our way to Tokachigawa, we stop at Iwatsuka Senbei (rice cracker) Factory for a tour and tasting. Soak in the hot spring onsen. A special multi-course kaiseki dinner is served tonight. After dinner walk to the TOKACHI SWAN FESTIVAL. TOKACHIGAWA ONSEN DAIICHI HOTEL (B, L, D)

Day 4: Sun, Feb 03 – TOKACHIGAWA – LAKE AKAN. On our way to Lake Akan, stop at RYUGETSU SWEET PIA CONFECTIONARY FACTORY. This afternoon experience ICE FISHING for wakasagi (smelt fish) on Lake Akan. Enjoy freshly made wakasagi tempura. After enjoying another gourmet Kaiseki dinner at your hotel this evening, walk to the nearby LAKE AKAN WINTER FESTIVAL. The completely frozen over lake offers you an unique event experience. Watch the “fuyu-hanabi” fireworks festival set on the ice. Take part in the ice cutting demonstrations and mini ice games. Day 5: Mon, Feb 04 – LAKE AKAN – ABASHIRI. Experience an ice breaker cruise aboard the “Aurora”. Upon arrival in Abashiri we will enjoy a special Abashiri Prison Lunch Meal Set before taking a tour of the ABASHIRI PRISON MUSEUM. Day 6: Tue, Feb 05 – ABASHIRI – SOUNKYO. This morning visit the KITAMI MINT MUSEUM. It was peppermint that built Kitami’s economy in the early days. During the peak production in 1938/1939, Kitami’s peppermint accounted for approximately 70% of the global market and became globally recognized as a special produce of Kitami and Japan. Adjacent to the Museum stands the Mint Distillation House where you can still enjoy the aroma of freshly made mint. Next stop at the AEON MALL SHOPPING complex. Visit the GINGA RYUSEI WATERFALL. The word “Ginga” means “the Milky Way” or “Galaxy” and the word “Ryusei” means “a meteor or shooting star.” Tonight, enjoy a relaxing soak in the hot springs onsen and a sumptuous buffet dinner at your hotel. After dinner, enjoy the nearby SOUNKYO ICE WATERFALL FESTIVAL, a frozen world of ice featuring man-made ice caves, pillars, tunnels, domes and sculptures. SOUNKYO CHOYOTEI (1 Night) (B, D)

Day 7: Wed, Feb 06 – SOUNKYO – ASAHIKAWA – OTARU. Take a tour of the Otokoyama Sake Brewery, along with a tasting of sake and other tasty products. Experience one of the most popular winter festivals in Hokkaido, the ASAHIKAWA SNOW FESTIVAL. As Hokkaido’s second largest winter festival, after Sapporo’s snow festival, Asahikawa Snow Festival boasts one of the biggest snow sculptures. Each year, one massive sculpture is made as a stage for music or other performances. The giant sculpture has a different theme each year. What will the theme be this year? Will it top the giant sculpture built in 1994 which made it into the book of Guinness World Records as the largest snow construction ever built? Enroute, stop at the Sunagawa Highway Oasis, a shopper’s paradise. Warm yourself with lunch at the Asahikawa Ramen Village, where you’ll get to choose the type of ramen lunch you’ll have from one of eight ramen shops. Asahikawa is known for their shoyu based broths, while Sapporo is known for its miso based broths and Hakodate for its salt based broths. Which one will you try? Otaru was a former major trade and fishing port in the 1800s. During the heyday of herring fishing, large HERRING MANSIONS (Nishin-Goten) were built by wealthy fishermen.
