Acute Care Rehab June 8-9

The fundamentals of ICU and acute care will be presented to help clinicians feel comfortable and confident about treating each patient in a safe, progressive manner. A variety of diagnoses will be presented and specific key areas addressed in the management and progression of each patient. Red flags and tips on how to appropriately monitor and interpret key vital signs when initiating and progressing a patient’s functional movement will be thoroughly addressed, as these are essential for all acute care therapists.

This one-day educational session and lab will review associated outcomes of treatment including surgical/anatomical changes, prosthetic needs and reconstruction implications, TMJ dysfunction/trismus, shoulder and neck impairments, pain, radiation fibrosis, lymphedema, cancer-related fatigue, deconditioning and nutritional deficits. Blood Flow Restrictions July 20

By applying a tourniquet briefly and intermittently to an exercising limb, you can induce significant and substantial

strength, hypertrophy and endurance changes while using a very load. Clinicians taking the course will learn the history and scientific theory behind BFR, as well as how to manipulate protocols to create a local or systemic response, use tourniquets safely, determine individual limb occlusion pressures and apply BFR to rehabilitating patients.

Stroke Impacting the Under-55 Population Aug. 10-11

This class provides clinicians with the information they need to know about motor learning, managing fatigue, treatment of the hemiplegic shoulder and management of hypertonicity to achieve improved outcomes. Lower Extremity Orthopedic and Sports Injuries in the Young Athlete Aug. 17-18

Balance Dysfunction and Intervention: An Evidence-based Course Sept. 14-15

This two-day advanced course will provide participants with the skills to determine the cause of imbalance, employ appropriate outcome measures and implement treatment. Vestibular, neurological and orthopedic causes of imbalance will be discussed, including pathologies such as stroke, MS, Parkinson’s disease, cerebellar dysfunction, total joint arthroplasties, lumbar spine dysfunction and vestibular dysfunction. Special consideration will be given to pathologies such as BPPV, cervicogenic causes of dizziness and imbalance, concussion, TBI and higher-level balance training, and fall risk assessment and intervention.

Gait Training: An Evidence-based Course Combining Manual Therapy, Exercise and Functional Activities Sept. 21-22
