Appeal Purpose and MissionMission – “Guides You” – From Rebuilt by Fr. Michael White

As recipients of God’s gifts and caretakers of all that we have, are, and will be, we

as a Church demonstrate our gratitude by assisting and serving others. The Archbishop’s

Appeal enables donors to come together in supporting essential ministries that promote

the Gospel message of love across the Archdiocese of San Antonio’s 19 counties.

Purpose – “Drives You” - From Rebuilt by Fr. Michael White

The Archbishop’s Appeal acquires the financial resources needed to support archdiocesan

ministries that provide for the spiritual, educational, and material needs of individuals

and families across the archdiocese. The Appeal empowers parishes to inspire communities

and guide the faithful into a deeper understanding of stewardship and love. It allows us to

promote the Gospel message in word and deed, serving others in prayer and through our

financial gift.

TRANSPARENCY – HOW ARE WE DOING? – SEE SLIDE 34

$25 on the 25th

The $25 on the 25th strategy has worked well to close the gap between the amount raised and the goal. In many cases it pushes parishes over the top.

This unique idea was created by a parish in another diocese to try to close the gap between what had been raised and their goal.

The first thing they did was figure out that if each parishioner could give $25 on the 25th of the month, their parish would reach their goal.

Even though they did not get a gift from everyone, they were able to come much closer to reaching their goal.

$25 on the 25th (Continued)

Request additional pledge envelopes if needed. The envelopes should be

stamped with the parish name, city.

Promote the campaign in the bulletin and at each Mass in announcements

to help the parish reach their Appeal goal.

After the collection, please send all envelopes to the Office of Archbishop’s

Appeal to arrive before December 31, 2019, so we can apply these gifts

toward your parish's goal for the 2019 Appeal.

Build upon the success of the 2018 Appeal.

Encourage parishioners to increase their gifts through pledging which allows gifts to be made in payments.

Promote online giving at www.archsa.org/archbishops-appeal.

Educate the parish about Stewardship - 40 ministries funded by the Appeal.

Share Appeal Ministry Impact Stories, e.g., the donor who called me.

Motivate parish leaders to be Good Will Ambassadors for the Appeal.

NEW - Sacrificial giving involves four principles: It must be a gift given freely. It is planned. It is proportionate, that is to say it is a percentage of your income. It is a sacrifice, because it comes from your substance, not your excess. It leads you to place

your security in God rather than on your material possessions.

• Page 34 – “A Comparison: Archbishop’s Appeal & Capital Campaign”• The Archbishop's Annual Appeal supports many of the ministries of the Archdiocese

that otherwise could not be funded. For example, Catholic hospital chaplains are funded by grants from the Appeal, and prison chaplains are also funded from the Appeal. Lay Ministry Formation, Catholic Charities, and many other outreach ministries are supported by the Appeal. We make a pledge to the Appeal each year to support the “day to day” ministries and services programs.

• The Archdiocesan Capital Campaign will help parishes and Catholic Schools with repairs and building needs, as well as purchase land and equipment for new parishes, such as the Catholic Student Center for UTSA and Texas A&M. Pledges for the Campaign are for three years, and the Campaign will end after the three year period. Last CC was in 1955, over 60 years ago.

Closing Prayer, 2019 Appeal PrayerCompassionate Father,

You sent us your Son as the Good Shepherd, the One willing to suffer with and for His flock.

Help us, with your Grace, to walk with our brothers and sisters, remembering that we are one Body of Christ.

Send your Holy Spirit to inspire our hearts with your eternal example of love and compassion.

Bless those whom we will serve through our gifts to the 2019 Annual Archbishop’s Appeal.

Strengthen and lead us as, together, we go forth to Encounter: Live in Faith, Give in Love.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
