Fifth Sunday of Lent Jesus Raises Lazarus John 11:1-45 The miracle Jesus performed in raising Lazarus from the dead was not just for the benefit of Mary and Martha. Jesus’ miracles were for the w community to know that he really was the son of the living God, and that God’s true presence was among them. The gospel said that after this miracle, many of the Jews who had come to be with Mary and Martha, and had seen Jesus perform this miracle, came to believe that Jesus truly was the son of God. Can you even begin to imagine what it must have been like to see Lazarus walk out of his tomb? If Jesus could raise Lazarus from the dead, and conquer his own death when he rose from the grave on Easter morning, there is no doubt that Jes will raise us from the dead one day as well. He has power over life and death, and we need not fear death as long as Jesus is by our side. Death is but a doorway int eternal life. We need not fear the other side. Jesus is waiting for us there. He proved to all of us that there is life after death, by bringing Lazarus back from the dead and by rising from his own grave on Easter morning. This is the Good News that all of mankind longs to hear. Death does not have the final say. Jesus Christ does. Don Antonio's Dispatch…………

This Sunday begins the time in the Church that we used to call Passiontide. This period is when we reflect more intense on the Passion of Christ, leading up to the Sacred Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil). During this time it has been customary to cover up statues, as a way for us to even have penance for our eyes, who are used to enjoying the serene and heavenly images of the saints. In this parish, we have covered up the statue of the risen Jesus. The rest of the statues will remain uncovered. This Friday will also be our last Soup Supper, Lenten Reflection, and Stations of the Cross for Friday evenings (we will still have Stations on Good Friday, but they will be at 12:30 p.m.) I am deeply indebted to those who helped make this activity a reality by bringing soup and showing up. I think I can say with great confidence that those who attended had a wonderful time of friendship and fellowship, and I even tried a few new soups that I truly enjoyed. Thank you for your gift of time and talent to give parishioners the opportunity to grow closer to each other (through table fellowship) and closer to God (through the reflection and through the Stations). Next Sunday we enter into Holy Week beginning with Palm Sunday. I invite you to arrive early, as we will have a special beginning to Mass with a procession starting outside (weather permitting) or in the narthex (in case of inclement weather). Everyone will be welcome to walk with us in the procession so that we can greet Jesus as did the Jews as Jesus entered into His city, Jerusalem.

Learning from our Family in Catholic Education

Am I the only one who has a household where occasionally there is yelling and hollering before bedtime? If so, consider yourself blessed and read no further. The other night I was having problems with an appliance. It was frustrating to say the least. Aside from the appliance issue, most of the day was lovely. When I went upstairs to get ready for bed, I had to ask one of our children three times to get off of their electronic device. By the third time I made my request, I had lost my patience. I wasn’t disrespectful and no inappropriate words came out, but I was definitely yelling. Twenty minutes later the kids were showered and in bed. Soon after, my wife entered our bedroom and told the kids to get in our room as well. She wanted them in our room for evening prayers. (Yes, I was annoyed that they were coming back into the same room that twenty minutes ago I had to kick them out of. And yes I didn’t feel like praying with them). So, as my wife and two children knelt around the bed that I the angry dad was still lying in, I realized that I better lose the attitude and role model what I expect of them. Needless to say we all prayed together and the night ended peacefully. I felt a great calm after praying as a family. Our kids learn this in their catholic school and they do it so naturally. Our kids- mine, yours, all of ours. You can’t find the data results showing its success. You won’t find the ACT score on its affect. But it is immeasurable, and the more we pray as a family the greater peace we will feel in our lives. Catholic education is a blessing for our children. Yeah, the appliance is still a problem. Apparently balancing these new dishwashers is a real pain. But I guess God would rather have something else in my life balance.

Level I atrium brings children to an awareness of doing wrong. Kayleigh knows she did something wrong when she had taken money from mom’s purse. She shared her actions on two separate occasions. I especially like the part where Kayleigh explained “she did not have to go to Reconciliation for two more years!” Is this child ready for Reconciliation?
