Lakewood Forest Garden Club August 2019 LWF Newsletter The Lakewood Forest Garden Club meets from September to May taking the summer months off Garden club members toured the SFA Mast Arboretum and Ruby Mize Azalea Garden in Nacogdoches in the spring. They also enjoyed the historical sites of Sterne Hoya House Museum and Old University Building as well as beautiful nature trails in the area. (Photo) Community Support - It is a pleasure to highlight one of the charitable aspects of garden club activities. As promised last month, here is the list of some of the groups in the community to whom donations were given during the past year: 1) Klein Historical Foundation 2) Gulf Coast Bird Observatory 3) Cypress Creek Flood Control 4) Shepherd's Garden 5) Mercer Society (Arboretum & Botanic Gardens) 6) Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM) 7) Precinct IV Fun for Seniors 8) Reach Unlimited Thanks to all garden club members and neighbors in the community who purchase plants during the annual fundraiser making it possible for us to contribute to such worthwhile causes. Judging for Yard of the Month is not conducted during the summer, but will resume the last week of September for October Yard of the Month. The first place winner receives a $50 gift certificate from Plants for All Seasons and a $25 gift certificate is awarded for honorable mention. Lakewood Forest Garden Club's annual fundraiser, the Fall Plant Sale, is coming soon! Vouchers will be available from members in September for purchasing plants to add fall color to our yards.
