Welcome to the Easter season and to the long awaited (by me) arrival of Spring! This year we explore the theme of ‘joy rising’ and what it takes to deepen our ex-perience of the divine joy that lives within each and every one of us. What is in between you and deepening your innate joy?

When I think about the in between, my imagination leads me straight to giant, hairy, scary obstacles. Can anyone who has made the choices I have in the past deserve a limitless amount of joy? Can anyone who has fallen short of society’s definition of perfect be worthy of true joy? Can anyone who has been in a toxic environment ever become free and clean, and seen as whole, lovable and valu-able?

Our Master Teacher Jesus said, “Forgive them, Father! They don’t know what they are doing.” Luke 23:34

Forgiving ourselves and others is just about the most powerful way to remove obstacles in our way. Forgiving cleanses our hearts and minds. In the past, I made the best decisions I knew how to make. The ultimate deserve-ability of God resides in me. My ideas of what society thinks is perfect, or not, have no impact upon my worthiness. As I recognize my wholeness and purity, obstacles are rolled away and divine joy rises within me.

On April 22 we, as a spiritual community, are engaging in a worldwide conscious-ness raising movement called The You Matter You Matter You Matter You Matter Compassion Project:

“Everyone wants to matter to someone. It’s a fundamental part of who we are. Feeling like we are alone in the world or that our lives are inconsequential is un-true and debilitating. It’s important to remember that people are not a reflection of their situations. Even in our darkest hours, we are capable of goodness and kindness. Suffering can be a powerful catalyst to change your outlook, make a difference and inspire others to do the same. Saying ‘You Matter’ can lift some-one’s spirits, brighten someone’s outlook and even save someone’s life.”

As metaphysicians (Unity people), we know there is a tremendous power in the word, that words are backed by thoughts which are the creative energy of the mind. Are you willing to be mindful of your words, speaking constructive words of love and support to yourself and oth-ers in your life? More than 30 of us congregated for a discovery and re-visioning meeting on March 4 to determine whether or not Unity of Wilmington was desirous and supportive of having a Youth and Family Ministry program. After receiving a clear yes, we frankly shared our individual rationales to ensure that our deci-sion making was not flowing from a sense of entitlement (Well, of course, all good churches have one!) or from an attachment to the past (We’ve always done it that way!). Elements of our re-visioned Youth and Family Ministry were fleshed out at a follow-up meeting on March 18. Ideas were tossed from how to grow the pro-gram, to discussion about curriculum, to the addition of activities at a later date. Next steps, for now, are to brainstorm qualities we would like to see in our new Youth Education Director so that Rev. Mindy can move forward in the hiring process in the coming months.

We will practice various techniques together such as playing with Zener cards, holding objects (psychometry), feeling and reading energy, practice automatic writing and more. As meditation is a key component to this class, we will medi-tation for 15-20 minutes to align with our higher selves in each session. Raise your vibration and those around you and join us! Have you ever felt like you received a message of Love from the universe? These messages are all around us; however we usually tend to notice them when we need them. Typically, these messages will support, encour-age and/or celebrate us. Proverbs 3:6 states: “Listen for God's voice in every-thing you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track.“ How do we do this? The third Unity Principle is that we are mindful co-creators with God. It is in spending time in prayer and meditation we receive guidance to live our lives fully. I think we have come into our bodies to have fun playing with this principle in order to be able to remember more fully who and what we are: beloved expressions of God. Our consciousness must be in constant contact with the Universe because we are each a unique aspect of the Universe. Metaphysically the universe is the total of all that is. What this means is that we can tap into the strength, the power, the love, the wisdom and all the powers of God at any time. When we do this, our lives work, our relationships flourish and we have the opportunity to experience Love. We can truly live our lives “Expecting Love, love and more love!” as prophesied by Jeremiah 31:3. Rev. Nickie Golden

Such a large idea can only be touched upon little by little, slowly, carefully and with an open mind and heart---not always an easy thing for men to do in a group. But we made some headway and will continue to deepen our understanding of this mystical and often elusive concept found in 1st Corinthians 13:4-8. Check it out. Thank you to all who participated in our annual Chili Cook Off! We had nine people bring in their delicious chili recipes and they were all so good it was hard to choose a winner. How-ever, we did and it was Phyllis Millette! Second place went to Carol Jenkins and third place to Nancy Klase—congratulations!

Unity of Wilmington runs and operates a small art gallery ministry as a way to acknowledge and honor the movement of Spirit in the creative expression of our members. We recognize that art sometimes helps tell those important sto-ries and brings a reflective or meditative perspective to spiritual ideas that per-meate our lives.

Cecelia Butler is showing her artwork in the gallery for the months of March and April, entitled Painting with Angels. She has painted almost daily for a large part of her life, but when she invited the angels to participate in her paint-ings, they responded and beautiful and colorful works transpired. Come and be inspired by her beautiful paintings! Upcoming shows: Eileen Argenbright, May and June; Cathy Byrne, July and Au-gust; and Annette Cook, September and October. There will be another draw-ing in June to select three more artists to show their work for the months of November-April 2019.

“You Matter” is a movement to let people know that their lives are important. On Sunday, April 22, we will be distributing these business card sized mes-sages to the congregation to pass around as they feel led. You can leave them in many places, i.e., in a library book, by a cash-ier, on a car windshield, etc. or wherever you choose. Be open—the card will arrive in the hands that need it most. It’s a way to say “you are loved.” Participation is the key.
