Fast Facts From The Principal Congratulations to ourJunior School for being

authorised as anIB World School in 2018.

We are the only school in the region offering International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP).

The heart of the IB PYP is The Learner Profile. It describes a set of characteristics that, when worked toward, will help our students to be internationally minded in order to succeed in the rapidly changing world.

Peggy MahySchool Principal

As we commence the school year of 2019; negotiate our way past the extreme heat of January and ease into the year, I am delighted to reflect on 2018 and its achievements.

At the end of last year, I completed my fifth year as Principal of The Scots School Albury. At Speech Night in December, another night of remarkable heat tempered by tremendous community energy and optimism; I shared that there was so much to celebrate about the 2018 year.

To provide a snapshot of these highlights I explained that I could take the route of sharing straight numbers such as the 1976 hours of community volunteer work completed through the Duke of Edinburgh program by our students or the 1500km walked in support of Relay for Life or through the significant funds, over $30,000, raised by our students and donated to charitable organisations who do incredible work to improve the lives of others both locally and internationally. It might also be that we have enrolled 92 students into the School – the most in any single year since 2013.

Alternatively, it could be by reflecting on the continued excellence of the Pipe Band, who were again South-East Asian Juvenile Champions, or the inspiration of our World

Champion tenor drummer, Indyana Bridgman or indeed, it might have been that we became an authorised ‘World School’ with the International Baccalaureate Programme in our Junior School.

Certainly, such highlights would include our piloting of STEAM in Year 9 or evolution of cognitive training for Stage Four (Years 7 and 8) students through the Thinking Lab or our achievements in music eisteddfods or innumerable musical productions. All these combined with the high quality of our teaching and care of students continued to make a positive difference in the lives of Scots students. It came as no surprise then, to the staff and students of Scots that in 2018 we were finalists in the Australian Education Awards, as “Best Regional” school. I am immensely proud of the work of students and staff in 2018 and thank parents for being such generous partners with us in that journey.
