The following programs and services are intended for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers unless a different audience is noted. Pre-registration is required.

REPRESENTS A RECURRING EVENT

It’s more than just being able to “bounce back” from a difficult experience. It’s a set of resources and skills that anyone can develop to be better prepared to respond to life’s challenges. Research suggests that individuals who seek out ways to manage stress and find support tend to have greater resiliency. There is also evidence that resiliency can be developed through exposure to new experiences. The Dempsey Center offers many programs and services to help clients develop these strategies. Programs with a particular focus on bolstering resiliency in people impacted by cancer include Space to Breathe, an adventure based therapy for youth clients and From Cancer to Health, an 8-week stress reduction and coping program for adults newly diagnosed with cancer, as well as Grief After Cancer Loss and our expressive arts workshops, Healing Masks for Self-Discovery & Putting the Pieces Together.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS TELL US:

“From Cancer to Health fills a much needed gap for cancer survivors. Through this program, I have learned so many things, including holistic ways to deal with stress (both emotional and physical), how to politely advocate for myself, and how to accept the generous help that others have offered without feeling like I’m weak or needy. This program is a real blessing and I encourage survivors to participate. It helps provide that road map to navigate the journey through cancer and beyond.”
