4 College Sports Uniform Policy:Students participating in sport are required to wear the College approved sports uniform for training. Certain sports may require the purchase of specific clothing. This will be outlined in the sports information and permission letter sent out prior to the commencement of each sports season. All items are available from the College uniform shop. Non-uniform items of clothing are not permitted at training, competition or during school.

Important Note: If students are training at Hawthorne Park, they must wear their full College Sports Uniform to and from school (no bike pants or singlets).

Communication:The College will endeavour to ensure that the Lourdes Hill College sporting community is fully informed about events occurring in the sports arena.

Information is distributed via the following channels:• LHC App• Daily Notices • LHC Sports Portal

All students will be emailed to advise of their selection into a team as well as their training and coaching information.

Team Selection:At Lourdes Hill College we believe that sport should be safe, enjoyable, inclusive and should maximise individual participation. We believe that a positive experience in sport will contribute to students developing a lifelong love of sport.

What we will do• Emphasise to coaches and parents that sport is about participation, not competition.• Try to match students with others of their own ability (i.e. if there are enough players, have two

teams in an age division). This is sometimes not possible due to restrictions imposed by the Association.

• Provide students with a broad range of experiences.• Provide equal playing time for all students, regardless of their ability.• Consider level of commitment to training sessions/games when selecting teams.• Insist that attendance at trials is compulsory for consideration into any team. If your daughter

is unavailable to attend a trial for any particular reason, you are required to advise the Sports Development Officer in charge, prior to the trial date (if known).

What we ask you to doParents:

• Set an example.• Praise and encourage your child and her team.• Respect the coach’s selection decisions. Aggressive or confronting behaviour will not be tolerated.• Negative comments directed at coaches, officials, staff or College leadership will not be tolerated.

Coaches:• Focus on students getting the chance to play and rotate through positions, and ensure equal time

for everyone.• Focus on participation, not winning and losing.• If parents coach their own children, treat them like everyone else in the team (e.g. rotations, playing

time or participation).

Code of Conduct - Sport:At Lourdes Hill College, we encourage good behaviour and sportsmanship on the sports field and require the following to be observed:

• Conduct all competitions in friendship, with fair play and by upholding the spirit of the rules. Be aware that competitive sport is for enjoyment and development and that winning is only one part of the process.

• Full sports uniform must be worn.• Students, parents and coaches must support the College ethos and Mission Statement.

Students• Attend all training sessions and games. Inform the coach if you are unable to attend a session.• Play by the rules and refrain from the use of inappropriate language and over zealous play.• Accept the umpire’s, referee’s and/or official’s decisions without question, however unfavourable.

Let the team captain or coach ask the necessary questions.• Play the game to the best of your ability. Work equally hard for yourself and your team - your team

performance will benefit and so will your own.• Give assistance to your opponents where it appears desirable. Control your temper - no criticism

by word or gesture.• Give congratulations, thanks and cheers, as appropriate, to captains and/or players of the

opposing teams.• Be friendly and courteous to all participants and say ‘thank you’ often.
